I'm currently studying Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at the University of Leeds, building on my A-levels in Maths, Economics, and History. I’ve always had a passion for understanding how the world works—whether through economic systems, political structures, or philosophical thought. Outside of my academic life, I really enjoy teaching and helping others learn. I often spend time tutoring my 13-year-old brother and younger cousins, which has not only strengthened my communication skills but also deepened my own understanding of the subjects I love. Hi, I’m Ernan! With over 20 years of math tutoring experience and a Bachelor’s in Applied Mathematics, I specialize in helping students at the GCSE and A-level. My passion for math extends beyond teaching—I’ve applied mathematical principles to game design, making complex concepts engaging and accessible. Fluent in English, I connect well with students from diverse backgrounds, focusing on creating a supportive, dynamic learning environment. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending time with my eight dogs and incorporating my love for music into lessons to make learning fun. I hold a Bachelor's in Applied Mathematics with a focus on Actuarial Science and have extensive experience in both teaching and practical math applications. Since 2000, I've tutored subjects from primary math to advanced topics like algebra, trigonometry, geometry, statistics, and calculus both in-person and online. I also teach other subjects including Biology, Physics, and Geography. My career also includes roles as a Game Mathematician and Slot Designer, where I developed mathematical models for slot games, as well as experience as a Software Engineer and Actuarial Assistant. I am a student on a gap year, intending to study English Literature at University of Leeds. I hope to go into journalism or publishing. When I was doing my own GCSEs, although I thrived in essay subjects, I struggled with Science and Maths, which caused a dip in my confidence. I was mentored by 4 different students (for Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Maths) and their differing styles in supporting me have shaped how I approach tutoring today. - Offering online tutoring, including teaching of course content and essay structures - Offering essay/exam question marking and feedback - I have 2 years tutoring experience. I have tutored many different types of students, such as ones who struggle with essay structure and ones who have exam anxiety. -I achieved 9 GCSEs, grades 9-5, including 8 in English Language and 6 in Maths -I achieved 8 and A* in English Literature GCSE and A-Level, and A* in A-Level Geography. I achieved a B in A-Level Politics. -I have mentored students in English Language GCSE previously, for 2 years.
