My name is Teo and I am currently undertaking my Professional Diploma in Secondary Teaching of English at the University of Edinburgh. I have been a tutor with GoStudent for over a year now, helping students from a range of age groups and ability levels achieve their potential and acquire the results they desire. My experience stretches from S1 to S6 students, with lessons carefully tailored to each and every one of them. In addition to my experience of teaching English to students from the Scottish Exam Board, I have also gained experience with England's AQA exam board, supporting several students in GCSE and A-Level English. Furthermore, my education in Film Studies from the University of St Andrews has allowed me to support students in the subject of Media as well. I strive to keep each lesson focused on the student's ability while introducing relatable and up-to-date topics to retain the student's interest as they stay engaged for the whole lesson. I have a great passion for teaching and helping young people achieve their academic goals, therefore, if the experience I have outlined above matches what you are looking for in a tutor, do not hesitate to get in touch! I am currently in the process of attaining my Professional Diploma in Secondary Teacher of English at the University of Edinburgh. Before embarking on my teacher journey, I dedicated the year 2021-2022 to my Master's degree in Playwriting and Dramaturgy at the University of Glasgow. That year resulted in my obtainment of a Distinction (First Class) achievement in that course. Over that year, I further developed my writing skills as well as my critical and academic engagement with the Drama genre. I believe this experience has proved especially valuable during my work with teaching and tutoring. Prior to my Master's qualification, I achieved a Second Class First Division result in my Undergraduate degree in English and Film Studies from the University of St Andrews. During this time, the majority of my literature skills were developed as well as my ability to critically engage with the art of moving pictures. Throughout my lengthy academic experience, I have engaged with a wide range of textual and visual styles and genres which has allowed me to provide knowledge and insight to each one of my tutoring sessions over the past year and a half. In addition, my teacher education will prove even more useful in my tutoring work as my skills will continue to develop, and my ability to support my students will continue to grow. I do hope I have been successful in representing my academic background and would be incredibly happy and excited to pass my literacy skills onto my students and help them achieve the academic results they are looking for.

Subjects taught: Psychology Educations levels taught: GCSE/Scottish Nationals, A-Level/Scottish Highers, UG Psychology My Teaching Style: I'm a tutor because I love helping people to learn and succeed, and this is reflected in my approach to tutoring. I adapt lesson style and content to your needs. We can go through specific subject areas, study skills and exam skills as required. I can vary how the material is delivered according to the situation and what works for you. I will teach and do lecture notes where appropriate, or take a more "coaching" style if that suits you and the situation better. We can even do more seminar/discussion style lessons as you become more comfortable with the material. At the heart of all of the above is making sure that we are working together so that you can achieve your goals. I know that you are probably already having lessons in school or at home, and my goal will be to complement those existing lessons rather than replacing them so that you can get the best value out of our time together. Specialisms: I am able to cover all aspects of the curriculum but I am particularly focused on skills. Psychology is a little different to other subjects covered at A-Level - not only do students have to learn a lot of information and produce it under exam conditions, but there is also a need to analyze and evaluate what has been learned so that they can write clearly, concisely and insightfully about that information. As well as teaching the syllabus content, I can help improve a student's thinking and writing skills so that they can go into exams with more confidence. I have also developed my coaching skills so work with students to help them improve their own problem-solving capabilities so that they can identify how they can study more effectively. A bit about me: I'm a PhD-qualified tutor who, over the course of my career, spent time working as a researcher, consultant and analyst across different industries. In all of those other roles, the part I enjoyed most was training, teaching and coaching people, so I am working towards making that my full-time career. Working in industry has taught me the importance of always turning up prepared and ready to work, using clear, prompt and honest communication and making sure that whoever I am working with knows that I am working in their best interests. The same will apply when we work together. In my spare time I love to play football and follow a lot of sport. I am learning to play guitar (very slowly) and enjoy listening to music, going to gigs when the opportunity arises. I love learning and am always doing some course or another - I'm currently studying to teach English as a foreign language and working towards accredited coach status. PhD Psychology - University of Leeds MSc Occupational Psychology - University of Sheffield BSc Psychology - University of Sheffield A-Levels - Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Sociology (all A grade) Teaching Experience: Delivered MSc lectures on Psychology Research methods Lead seminars, labs and one-to-one sessions with Undergraduate Psychology students on a variety of topics within Psychology I have worked in a number of roles as an Improvement Consultant, Client Services Analyst and Academic Researcher. A common thread in all those roles was coaching and teaching colleagues and communicating complex information to a range of people who did not necessarily share the same background.

Lower Level: Maths, Biology, Chemistry GCSE: Biology, Chemistry A-Level (IB): Biology, Chemistry Exam Board Experience: AQA, OCR, EDEXCEL Languages: Italian (fluent), English (fluent), French (Basic) SEND experience: During my time in sixth-form, I took the opportunity to tutor students struggling with learning difficulties. Here, I developed key skills which proved extremely useful for their progress e.g., altering my communication to their level of understanding while giving relatable and fun examples, ensuring that the students are actively engaged by asking continuous questions to assess their understanding, and each new lesson I conducted with each student was started with a quick recap of the previous lesson. I noticed that these small steps proved extremely useful in the long run for the child's academic progress. Preferred age group: GCSE (However I can also teach A-level and Primary School children) A bit about myself: I am charismatic and enthusiastic Barts and the London School of Medicine student, with a willingness to learn and grow in any field despite the challenges that may be presented. I consider myself well-rounded, excelling in both academics as well as sport e.g., Football (My favourite!) and have passion for social interaction. Through exposure to tough situations as well as reading books on the topics I have honed my emotional intelligence and communication skills which I have since applied to provide help in various avenues such as education. I've had leadership roles such as Headboy of the school and thus have developed strong rapports with students who look at me as a role-model as well as their parents, especially during information evenings where I had conversations on how "parents could best support their children". As a fluent English and Italian speaker, I've acted as a bridge and advocate for foreign students to make them feel integrated in the community. This has also proved useful when teaching students who's first language isn't English as my fluency in another language allowed my to better understand the students I've worked with. I am a published author who is passionate about writing short stories as means of expressing issues that many children are faced with. One such issue is bullying and I have published a book titled Scars the Bullies and The Bullied which aims to inspire readers to take action against bullying. I will work alongside my students, supporting them along each step of the way so that in the end, they can excel; not solely academically but also in life. I am a Law graduate training to become a barrister, with a particular persuasion to Human Rights Law. My commitments to social justice and contributing to the tangible progress of my community, mark my aspirations as both a tutor and barrister-to-be. As a conscientious tutor, I seek to inspire an interest in the education I deliver. Through carefully tailored and creative teaching, I aim to empower student development. Perhaps as a by-product of my legal profession, I like to play devil's advocate by challenging and pushing students to grow confidence in their independent skills whilst simultaneously nurturing their understanding with warm guidance and friendly support. More an advocate and less a devil!
