As a parent, you may see the value of learning a second language, particularly Spanish, for children and teenagers who will face a competitive future throughout their formative years and as they enter the global job market.
After Chinese, Spanish is the second most widely spoken native language on the planet and there are 21 countries in the world where Spanish is the official language. Additionally, one of the six official languages of the United Nations is Spanish. So it’s definitely worth the investment to work on improving your child’s Spanish skills.
Studying Spanish can be hard, but sometimes it just takes some extra help from a tutor to get your child on the right path. Having a tutor can help in many ways:
There are many different reasons to learn a language. Some people learn a language to communicate with people from the country where the language is spoken, some for travel, and some just for fun or because they like languages. Many children learn Spanish because it’s taught in a lot of schools in the UK. However, that doesn’t mean that it has to be a chore. Our tutors at GoStudent are experts at bringing this vibrant language to life.
Spanish has been recognized as one of the most important languages in the world due to its influence on both world culture and the economy.
Spanish is popular with language learners all over the world because it’s supposedly easier to learn than many other languages, such as French or Russian.
It is also one of the most useful languages your child could study. Speaking Spanish would allow your child to interact with more than 500 million people all over the world who have Spanish as their native language.
Learning Spanish could also be beneficial for your child's career - around 450 million people speak Spanish as a foreign language. Knowledge of Spanish would provide your child with the opportunity to study any topic relevant to Spain or Latin America in the original language.
Jobs related to Spanish include:
Another reason to study Spanish is that it has a long, rich history. Learning Spanish would allow your child to study the works of Miguel de Cervantes, important texts written during the Enlightenment and Romantic periods of literature and even great Hispanic music.
At GoStudent, our Spanish tutors have a lot of experience teaching Spanish at primary school level. They will work with your child on speaking, reading, listening, and writing.
Our tutors' classes include working towards academic objectives through interactive games, songs, and multimedia tools. To strengthen the learning experience, they can also combine Spanish and Hispanic culture and geography into the classes.
The objective of our primary tutoring program is to make Spanish fun and foster a lifelong love of this fascinating language.
Studying for Spanish exams such as Spanish GCSE, A-Level, Higher or Advanced Higher is a way to study the language at a more advanced level. If your child has been studying Spanish for their exams, then you may be looking for a Spanish tutor to help them improve their grades. You may also be looking for a tutor to support your child with their homework or classwork.
Our Spanish GCSE tutors cover all units of work for qualifications in the UK. A Spanish tutor can help your child with any aspect of their Spanish exams or coursework. The tutor will assist them in determining which aspects of speaking, reading, and writing require the most attention and devise a strategy for improving their Spanish understanding.
Our tutors prepare fun and interactive plans to practise all areas covered in the course. They can also help your child prepare for the final exam.
Students will also be expected to have studied the grammatical system and structures of the language during their course. Knowledge of the grammar and structures is important so tutoring can also be really useful to help students revise these elements.
Spanish tutoring for Degree Level
Students who study Spanish at degree level have a diverse range of opportunities, both in terms of further education and professional chances after graduation.
Spanish courses teach students how to think critically, express themselves verbally and in writing, and perceive and understand the world from a range of viewpoints.
Studying Spanish at university provides students with a broad understanding of the language and culture of the Hispanic world.
A typical Spanish degree usually progresses from basic language skills to intermediate and advanced conversation, grammar, the study of Spanish and Spanish-American literature, representative Hispanic films, and the historical and contemporary civilizations of Spain and Latin America.
Business Spanish and specialized Spanish vocabulary for many occupations are also available as applied Spanish courses.
A Spanish degree can be completed in three years if studied full-time, although most programmes last four years, including a year spent studying abroad in a Spanish-speaking country. Languages lend themselves to dual honours degrees, and it is very popular to study Spanish alongside another European language, typically French, German, or Italian. Spanish can also be part of a larger degree program such as modern languages or Hispanic studies (a concentrated study of Spanish language and culture worldwide). You can also study Spanish in conjunction with a non-Spanish subject, such as history, sociology, or drama.
Spanish is a popular subject to study at university - which is why it is all the more important to make sure your child is reaching the entry requirements.
One of the advantages of GoStudent is that you can use your credits over a variety of subjects. Your child can study Spanish and any other subject that’s needed for entrance into university at the same time. The grades you need for entry to study Spanish and other modern languages on average are listed below (data taken from UCAS.)
Check out the homepage of your desired university for more detailed information.
At least two A levels are normally required for admission to a language-related degree. The entry criteria for universities and colleges range from BBB to AAB, with ABB being the most frequent.
If you're looking for a degree in a modern foreign language like Spanish, you'll almost certainly need an A level in the subject, with some colleges requiring a minimum grade of B.
To demonstrate their capacity to learn a new language, your child will need at least one A level in a foreign language for other language degrees. Some institutions that offer American Studies need an A level in history or English.
You'll also need at least five GCSEs (A-C) in science, English, and maths, in addition to the various A level criteria listed above.
Highers (the most prevalent qualification) have entry criteria ranging from ABBB to AAAAB, with AABBB being the most common. Universities occasionally want Advanced Highers to supplement Highers. When universities or colleges ask for Advanced Highers, they usually require ABB.
For University modules, a University level Spanish tutor can help you dramatically improve your child’s Spanish fluency, develop their Spanish translation skills, and broaden their knowledge of Spanish culture.
