I love stories and music. This is why I did an English and Music degree, which I really enjoyed. Reading and writing are such essential and valuable skills, so this, along with my love of stories is why I teach English. I think the Harry Potter books are fantastic. My favourite Shakespeare play is ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, as I love the magic of the forest and the fun of the character Puck. I have also studied Ancient Greek. This proved to be a fascinating language; I found it interesting to learn where so many modern words stem from. I used to run my own drama groups; I believe in the importance of self expression and the confidence that this can bring to people. I have been a tour guide, which was great fun. It was an excellent opportunity to see many interesting sites, whilst meeting many wonderful people. I have worked with a wide range of students over the years and believe in the potential of every individual. In my spare time I enjoy playing the piano. I try to write songs with my partner, who is a much better musician than me. It usually ends up with me writing the lyrics and him writing the music! I also enjoy sailing, writing stories and walking my crazy puppy; she is a mix of sheepdogs, so all she wants to do is round everyone up, including the cat! BA (Hons) Open (English and Music) First-class Honours. A-levels: English and Sociology GCSEs: English Literature and Language, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Sociology and Music. BTEC Diploma: Music and Drama Take 10 for play (play worker certificate) Current studies: The 1st year of a Maths and Physics BSc with the Open University

Subjects taught: Psychology Educations levels taught: GCSE / Scottish Nationals, A-Level / Scottish Highers, UG Psychology My Teaching Style: I'm a tutor because I love helping people to learn and succeed, and this is reflected in my approach to tutoring. I adapt lesson style and content to your needs. We can go through specific subject areas, study skills and exam skills as required. I can vary how the material is delivered according to the situation and what works for you. I will teach and do lecture notes where appropriate, or take a more "coaching" style if that suits you and the situation better. We can even do more seminar/discussion style lessons as you become more comfortable with the material. At the heart of all of the above is making sure that we are working together so that you can achieve your goals. I know that you are probably already having lessons in school or at home, and my goal will be to complement those existing lessons rather than replacing them so that you can get the best value out of our time together. Specialisms: I am able to cover all aspects of the curriculum but I am particularly focused on skills. Psychology is a little different to other subjects covered at A-Level - not only do students have to learn a lot of information and produce it under exam conditions, but there is also a need to analyze and evaluate what has been learned so that they can write clearly, concisely and insightfully about that information. As well as teaching the syllabus content, I can help improve a student's thinking and writing skills so that they can go into exams with more confidence. I have also developed my coaching skills so work with students to help them improve their own problem-solving capabilities so that they can identify how they can study more effectively. A bit about me: I'm a PhD-qualified tutor who, over the course of my career, spent time working as a researcher, consultant and analyst across different industries. In all of those other roles, the part I enjoyed most was training, teaching and coaching people, so I am working towards making that my full-time career. Working in industry has taught me the importance of always turning up prepared and ready to work, using clear, prompt and honest communication and making sure that whoever I am working with knows that I am working in their best interests. The same will apply when we work together. In my spare time I love to play football and follow a lot of sport. I am learning to play guitar (very slowly) and enjoy listening to music, going to gigs when the opportunity arises. I love learning and am always doing some course or another - I'm currently studying to teach English as a foreign language and working towards accredited coach status. PhD Psychology - University of Leeds MSc Occupational Psychology - University of Sheffield BSc Psychology - University of Sheffield A-Levels - Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Sociology (all A grade) Teaching Experience: Delivered MSc lectures on Psychology Research methods Lead seminars, labs and one-to-one sessions with Undergraduate Psychology students on a variety of topics within Psychology I have worked in a number of roles as an Improvement Consultant, Client Services Analyst and Academic Researcher. A common thread in all those roles was coaching and teaching colleagues and communicating complex information to a range of people who did not necessarily share the same background. This means that I can work effectively with anyone as their tutor.

Hi! I'm Simon, a Chemical Engineering Graduate from the University of Manchester, with over three years of teaching and tutoring experience. For the past 3 years I have been running a tutoring business teaching mostly Maths and Science subjects from Year 7 to A-Level. I have also taught Maths and Languages at an international high school in Singapore, and a primary school in the UK. (+DBS) Available weekday evenings, from 5-8pm. Message me and I will be happy to juggle other commitments. I completed a Master of Engineering (MEng) in Chemical Engineering with Industrial Experience at the University of Manchester, an accredited pre-chartership qualification within the field. This rigorous program combined in-depth academic study with practical industry exposure, preparing me for a professional career in chemical engineering. The course covered a wide range of core modules, including Thermodynamics, Process Optimisation, and Fluid Mechanics, in which I achieved consistently high marks, graduating with a First-Class classification at the bachelor's level. Throughout the degree, I developed strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly through group-based design projects and hands-on laboratory work. These projects provided opportunities to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world, commercially relevant scenarios, fostering my ability to work effectively in collaborative, multidisciplinary teams. A key component of the program was a year-long industrial placement, during which I worked for a chemical distribution company. This experience allowed me to gain valuable insight into the commercial side of chemical engineering and build a practical understanding of supply chains, technical sales, and operations. It also enabled me to contribute meaningfully to the company’s work while developing essential workplace skills such as communication, project management, and adaptability. Since completing my degree, I’ve continued working with the same company, now in a professional capacity with a focus on sustainability. My final-year dissertation centred on sustainable surfactant research, which sparked a deeper interest in the environmental impact of chemical processes. This has led me to transition into a more corporate sustainability role, where I support the integration of sustainable practices across the business.
