English is one of the most important subjects there is. I have a passion for helping people improve and get better at both reading and writing. History is one of the basics for so many subjects. It also helps students to develop great skills for the future. I am here to help in all aspects of English ( entry up to GCSE) and History (entry up to A level). Reading is something I do every day: mostly history books! Cooking has now become a passion.

Hello, my name is Kirstie and I have been teaching for 18 years. I have spent time both in British secondary schools and in schools in Vietnam and Singapore. My main subject and passion is the study of History and I can teach this from Key Stage 3 all the way up to A-Level. My favourite period is the Tudors and I particularly enjoy the stories of the women of this time. I also tutor KS3 English and GCSE English Language and English Literature and am very familiar with both AQA and Edexcel exam boards. I also have experience teaching Geography up to GCSE and find the two subjects actually quite complement each other with many of the themes over-lapping. I discovered a love for geography from my love of the great outdoors – I would often find myself on the top of a mountain admiring glacial landscapes and wondering how all the features were formed. This in turn links to my philosophy for education: I believe education should be a journey of discovery that allows the learner to move forwards with their knowledge and understanding of the world around them without putting them under so much pressure that they don’t enjoy it. I believe that effort is necessary in order to be successful, but that learning should not be a struggle or something that is dreaded. I am here to help students achieve their goals and become successful members of their community. In my spare time I enjoy running and drinking coffee with friends. I have 2 cats and have been married for almost 7 years. I am currently learning French in order to pursue my dream of moving to France to start a new life on the continent.

I have taught at The Grange School – an Independent school situated in Hartford, Cheshire. I was at the school for 23 years of which 16 were Head of Department and have just recently taken early retirement. I have taught 11-18 years old and at A level have experience of all examination boards. I have been leader for the NEA aspect of the course for the last 5 years and have mentored students in topics such as The Angevin Empire, Tudor Rebellions, 17th Century Witch-craze and The American Revolution through to Civil War. I have taught A Level and GCSE every year at school and our results have been excellent. We have had nothing less than a B grade since 2018 and this year gained 5 A* 9A and 4 B grades. Our results at GCSE were 100% Grade 7-9 from 42 students half of which were Grade 9. In relation to tutoring I have extensive experience of online teaching and have mentored students at GCSE and A Level. Our school did online teaching during the whole pandemic and I am proficient in using Zoom, Teams and AdobeConnect. I also mentored students who were looking to study History at University including Oxford and Cambridge of which we have had many successes. I have been a team leader, examiner and moderator of coursework at both GCSE and A level for over 10 years working for AQA, OCR and EdExcel. I have also taught Government and Politics and I am able to offer that as well to a very high level. Availability: Flexible weekdays and weekends during term time and holidays. As I believe, this understanding is half of the learning journey that they need to make. Currently, I am pursuing my aspiration of a career in medical research. I am studying Pharmacology at the University of Reading which has enforced the importance of always striving to learn; so I encourage my students to embrace learning. Studying the medical field has highlighted the importance of teaching and learning: in particular explaining concepts in a manner that will enable a deeper understanding. As an individual who enjoys a problem solving challenge, of which I have demonstrated during my many voluntary pursuits, including at a school and at a hospital, I have communicated with a wide range of individuals. So, in establishing a student's needs, I understand the issues they are facing and find solutions to their problems. Guiding a student through revision is no easy task as no student learns in the same format. Presenting the student with ideas and having them put these into practice is what I aim for to prepare them for exams.
