I have worked as a lecturer at De Montfort University for over 15 years. I hold a PGCE in further Education, an MA in English Language Teaching, and a BA honours in English. I taught English for Academic Purposes at university. This enabled me to develop various teaching approaches at different levels of English usage. I have also taught KS3-KS5 in the UK and abroad during which I have been observed several times and demonstrated that I was outstanding. I have used various teaching aids ranging from pictures, flash cards, to a variety of IT techniques. I have also used peer interaction and assessment to develop learners. Teaching at university enabled me to teach presentation skills. This has enabled me to do the same during training, coaching and mentoring sessions with colleagues. I began my journey into English in 2002 when I did a BA (hons) in English at Demontfort university. Following this I did an MA in Children’s Literature in 2005 due to my immense love of reading. However, it was only when I landed a job at a resources centre that I decided to specialize in teaching and so I did a PGCE in education and an MA in English language teaching both in 2007-2009. I absolutely love teaching since then - as cliche as it sounds it is truly my passion and the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. I love my students and to see them excel truly makes me content. I’ve been told that I have a gift for building a rapport with learners and I to feel this is something that comes naturally to me because as a student I myself struggled with being misunderstood and branded as a ‘bad student’. I feel as a result I can relate to students and their struggles more easily. I’m also very patient and an excellent listener.

Hi there, My name is Dan and I have taught over 1000 sessions for Gostudent with great parental feedback. I am able to give students tasks that get them thinking and responding as if there were in class or an exam without getting them to realise that they are doing this. This means they are more engaged and students, who maybe are struggling, see that they can succeed. I am also able to engage with parents and students at the same, making it clear to Parents what has been achieved. I just graduated from a degree in English Literature, French and Dutch at the University of Sheffield with First Class Honours, and am currently training to be a speech and language therapist. Hello! My name is Will and I am a Theology graduate of the University of Cambridge. I currently work as an accountant and live in London, but I love tutoring. Hi! I'm Owen and I'm a graduate of Girton College at the University of Cambridge, where I read MA Modern and Medieval Languages and MPhil Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic from 2018 to 2023. During my undergraduate I studied French and German, with a focus on historical and comparative linguistics and spent a year abroad at the University of Strasbourg, studying Russian, Dutch, and Swedish, alongside comparative linguistic research. Following my interests in Germanic philology, I stayed at Cambridge for my MPhil in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic, continuing further study of Old Norse and Old English alongside a dissertation on Reflexives and Self in Old English, Old High German, and Old Saxon. Following graduation, I’ve taken up various professional, full-time roles in education consultancy, leading in-house support for personal statements, admissions tests, and interviews at hundreds of schools across the UK and around the world. I’ve delivered presentations on Oxbridge applications, preparation, and strategy to thousands of students and have designed and delivered training to help teachers at some of the UK’s top independent schools better support their own students with university applications. I’ve personally consulted with hundreds of students for (almost!) every subject at Oxbridge and have supported applicants across languages, linguistics, literature, ASNC, and history through the entire application process, from course, university, and college selection, to supercurricular engagement, admissions tests, personal statements, written work, and mock interviews.
