A BEng Mechanical Engineering student from The University of Dundee who has taken A-level examinations before. I prefer mastery of concepts with the ability to employ knowledge to solve problems. I have experience with real-world engineering projects, as I am running an IMechE-affiliated aeronautical society where we develop autonomous drones for the UAS challenge. I have self-studied my A-levels, which comprise AS and A2-level Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. As a result of this solo endeavor, I have become very familiar with discipline and time management. It has helped me develop a growth mindset. I'm currently in my 2nd year. I have received straight A's during my first year transcript and am projected to maintain that grade. I employ this knowledge and critical thinking extensively for my real-world engineering projects, which aim to develop UAV's to be competitive at the national level.

I am a medical student with A*AA at A-level, including an A* in Biology, and top GCSEs (all 9s in triple sciences, Geography, English Language, and RS). With 2 years of tutoring experience, I combine strong subject knowledge with a supportive approach, helping students not only achieve excellent results but also enjoy the learning process and grow in confidence. I attended Townley Grammar School and its Sixth Form, achieving 9999998877 at GCSE, with grade 9s in all Triple Sciences, English Language, Religious Studies, and Geography. At A-level I achieved A*AA in Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology, with an A* in Biology, and I am now studying Medicine at university. Alongside my studies, I have over 2 years’ experience tutoring GCSE English and Maths and mentoring students in Triple Science, supporting them as they prepared for exams. I also led my school’s Science Club, helping to inspire younger students and make science engaging beyond the classroom. In addition, I achieved a Bronze award in the British Biology Olympiad, reflecting both my academic ability and enthusiasm for learning. These experiences have strengthened my subject knowledge and my ability to explain complex ideas clearly, motivate students, and build their confidence.

I am an encouraging, patient, and highly experienced GCSE and A-Level Chemistry tutor, with a strong academic background and a genuine passion for helping students build confidence and succeed. I hold a PhD in Bioengineering and Materials Science from Imperial College London, and I have also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford. My academic training began with a Master’s degree in Chemistry with Biomedicine from King’s College London, where I was recognised as the Most Outstanding Graduate. This journey has given me a deep and thorough understanding of chemistry, as well as the ability to explain complex ideas clearly and simply. Alongside my studies and research career, teaching has always been a core part of what I do. I have delivered university tutorials, supported undergraduate and Master’s students, organised revision sessions, and mentored students at different stages of their education. I also have several years of experience tutoring GCSE and A-Level Chemistry, both one-to-one and in small groups. My teaching style is calm, structured, and supportive. I believe every student can do well with the right guidance and approach. I focus on building strong foundations first — making sure key concepts truly make sense — before gradually moving on to more challenging topics and exam-style questions. This helps students feel confident, reduce anxiety around exams, and develop strong problem-solving skills. I am particularly experienced at identifying where students are getting stuck and adapting my explanations to suit different learning styles. Whether a student needs help catching up, strengthening their understanding, or pushing for top grades, I tailor each lesson to their individual needs and goals. Above all, I aim to create a positive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and improving steadily. My goal is not just to help students achieve better grades, but to help them feel confident in their abilities and develop skills they can carry forward beyond their exams. I have a strong academic foundation in chemistry and related sciences, combined with extensive experience in teaching, mentoring, and one-to-one tutoring across multiple educational levels. I completed a PhD in Bioengineering and Materials Science at Imperial College London, where I developed advanced analytical skills and a deep understanding of chemistry, materials science, and applied biology. My doctoral training strengthened my ability to explain complex concepts clearly, logically, and step-by-step — an approach that translates directly into effective teaching. Prior to this, I obtained a Master’s degree in Chemistry with Biomedicine from King’s College London, where I was awarded Most Outstanding Graduate in recognition of academic excellence. Throughout my undergraduate and postgraduate studies, I was actively involved in teaching and student support. I organised and delivered revision sessions, led tutorials for undergraduate and Master’s students, and regularly supported peers with exam preparation and problem-solving. These experiences gave me a strong understanding of common misconceptions students face in chemistry and how to address them effectively. Following my PhD, I held postdoctoral research positions at both Imperial College London and the University of Oxford. In these roles, I supervised and mentored students, contributed to teaching activities, and continued to refine my ability to communicate scientific ideas clearly and accessibly to learners with different backgrounds and abilities. In parallel with my academic career, I have several years of experience tutoring GCSE and A-Level Chemistry, as well as supporting undergraduate (BSc) students. I have worked with students of varying abilities, from those needing to rebuild confidence in the subject to those aiming for top grades. My teaching approach is structured and adaptable, focusing on building strong foundations before progressing to more complex topics and exam-style questions. Overall, my educational background and teaching experience allow me to combine subject expertise with a supportive, student-centred approach. I am confident in tailoring lessons to individual learning styles and helping students develop both understanding and confidence in chemistry.

What is the IGCSE?
The IGCSE (which stands for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is taken by students aged 14-16 (Year 10 and 11) to prepare them for further pre-university level study, such as A-levels.
It offers the same level of education as a traditional GCSE but does not have a UK-centric curriculum. For example, Shakespeare is a compulsory part of GCSE English Literature but not the IGCSE.
Children in state schools usually take GCSEs whilst those in private and international schools are more likely to take IGCSEs. Universities do not distinguish between the two when it comes to entry requirements. The exams are assessed externally.
What is the focus of the IGCSE?
The IGCSE focuses on developing understanding, skill, and knowledge in the following areas:
Subject content
The application of knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations
Intellectual enquiry
Flexibility and responsiveness to change
Working and communicating in English
Influencing outcomes
Cultural awareness
What subjects are studied?
IGCSEs are available in a broad range of subjects but curriculums vary considerably depending on the school.
Students typically take seven to nine subjects, which must include the core subjects of English, mathematics and science (biology, chemistry, physics).
Optional subjects include humanities (history, geography), modern languages, the creative arts (art, music), STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and sports.
Preparing for the IGCSEs
Historically, the GCSE had a greater amount of coursework in the syllabus compared to the IGCSE. This has changed in recent years and both qualifications are based mainly on the end-of-course exams.
The exams test theoretical knowledge, practical skills, problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills – which are essential for further education as well as future careers.
Revision is key to retaining information and reinforcing understanding and should be done regularly rather than cramming all the content at the last minute.
Practicing past papers and taking mock exams will allow you to become familiar with the exam structure, improve your time management skills and discover any areas of weakness.
How can a tutor help with preparing for the IGCSEs?
A tutor can help at any stage of the process, whether it is over the two years of study or in the run-up to the exams.
GoStudent IGCSE tutors have experience in the specific subjects covered in the curriculum as well as a proven track record of success. They offer personalised lessons that can target problematic areas and can help create realistic and achievable study schedules that balance your time across the different subjects.
ICGSE tutors can also teach you effective study techniques. These will help you not only with the exams but in your future academic career.
If you are struggling with either the coursework or exam preparation, don’t delay seeking help. Feeling prepared and confident for your exams allows you to have a clear and focused mind - and achieve to your full potential.

How can your child benefit from iGCSE tuition?
The main reason that parents often start to look for a iGCSE tutor is to improve their child’s academic performance. It’s needless to say that tutoring will prepare your child for important exams and tests and address specific problem areas that they might have in a particular subject. Your child’s grades and understanding of the subject will improve when working with a tutor but there are also other benefits you might consider when deciding whether to opt for private iGCSE tutoring. Tutoring encourages self-directed learning. This means that your child will learn to take the initiative in their schoolwork, with the result that they will feel less overwhelmed or frustrated with school and more in control of their own learning. They will also learn study skills that will help them in life when it comes to university and beyond. Whether it’s learning to overcome obstacles in their studies, losing the fear of asking questions or even working on their social skills. Sign up for a free trial lesson to discover the benefits of tutoring for yourself.
