After university I worked at a secondary school on a graduate scheme with Step Into Teaching, working as a teaching assistant and running the school library. In this role I worked predominantly with KS3 students on a 1:1 and small-group basis, but I love working with KS4 students and building their knowledge in their subjects. In this role I have worked with SEN and ESL students. Shortly after this I went to Malaga, Spain to work as an au pair. While living with a Spanish family it was my repsonsiblity to teach English to two daughters, ages 11 and 14. I then worked as an English tutor in a secondary school through the National Tutoring Programme. In this role I worked with year 10 and year 11 students, helping them progress in GCSE English Literature and GCSE English Language. I have recently completed an MA in Education at University College London and am currently working as a teaching assistant in a secondary school. I support students in lessons and run GCSE English Literature and Language revision sessions for SEN students. I also support year 7, 8 and 9 students with phonics interventions. September 2025 I will be training as a secondary school English teacher. I'm passionate about building student's confidence in their subject alongside building their subject knowledge. Based on my own experience, I'm keen to help students become more confident in how they perform in exam conditions and maximise the application of their knowledge when under pressure. My favourite thing about working as a tutor is seeing students gradually become more confident in asking questions and the sense of achievement they feel when they have reached a certain target grade or a certificate or award in school. GCSE: At GCSE, I am available to tutor Maths, Chemistry, and, Biology. At GCSE, I achieved 9 A* in; Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies, Digital technology, English, and, Religious Education. I achieved an A in GCSE German. At A level, I achieved an A* in Maths, Chemistry, and, Biology. Exam Board: I completed all my GCSEs and A levels under the Northern Ireland CCEA exam board (NICCEA i.e. Northern Ireland Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment). Experience with: I have experience of the NICCEA and AQE system; at GCSE and A level, and, 11+ level respectively. I have experience tutoring a student for the 11+ exam, who completed the exam and got into his first choice (grammar) school. I have also experience working as a classroom assistant for ages 5-7, teaching them basic maths and money skills; helping them to really grasp the basics. I do not really have a preference with regards to age group or subject. About me: I am a 21 year old, second year Medical student at Trinity College Dublin. I am a football enthusiast; both as a player and a fan, and, also work with 11-13 year olds as a teacher in my church Sunday school. I also play a bit of piano after achieving up to Grade 6, although this is more of a hobby than a real skill in all honesty! I am a logical thinker and good communicator; with a large emphasis on being able to understand the question and the problem and then being able to solve it. For certain age groups, I will be using past paper questions to help build technique in answering common questions and, therefore, a create a strong foundation for more difficult questions. However, it is imperative topics are understood before they are tested so more fundamental teaching will always be put in place before questions. Apart from GCSEs and A levels, I don’t have any other ‘main’ qualifications but I’ve achieved Gold in a UKMT Maths Challenge and also completed the Chemistry Olympiad at A level. I also completed optional Scholarship exams at Trinity College Dublin, and am now a funded Medical Scholar for the rest of my degree. I have also completed the medical entrance exams, achieving 3180 99th percentile in UCAT, and 189 95% percentile in HPAT. I’ve Also completed a 5 week online course on Airway management in Intensive care and emergency situations; tied in very well with my love of Medicine

Hi! My name is Lucia Valero and I am a third year Chemical Engineering student at the University of Aberdeen. I have taught Maths from primary to S4 level for a year. I try to keep lessons light and as engaging by possible, always working through examples and really encourage students to think independently as they are often capable of more than they realize. (I am not interested in teaching Spanish at the moment) Spanish is my first language, and I am familiar with the process of learning a second language so I am confident in teaching it. I find that usually reading and conversation are the best ways to learn a language and achieve fluidity but I can adapt to each student's needs. I sat Scottish exams (SQAs) and currently attend the University of Aberdeen for Chemical Engineering. I speak fully fluent English, Spanish and some French. I have around 2 years of tutoring experience I am interested in teaching English as a foreign language not as a subject. I have received French and English tutoring throughout most of my childhood and have given some Spanish tutoring previously, so I have some experience in the area.

**SSH** Hi, I'm Sophie (she/her) ! I'm currently studying English Literature, French and Dutch at the University of Sheffield, and I can't wait to share my passion for books, languages and everything in between! I have been tutoring for 4 years and am offering tutoring in English, French and History to A level. I finished my A Levels in summer 2021 so I completely understand not only the current exam system and latest revision techniques, but also how stressful school life can be, both inside and out of the classroom. My goal in becoming a tutor is to do my best to help you achieve your personal goals, whether you're aiming to simply pass a class or achieve the highest grade possible. Our sessions will be focussed around how to achieve your best- everyone's 'best' is different, but yours is what matters to me. Outside of studying, I am usually found relaxing and having a giggle with my friends, curled up with a good book (my favourites are usually fantasy or romances) and a cup of coffee, or dancing! I've also been vegan for three years and a huge animal lover. Degree in English Literature and Modern Languages and Cultures (French and Dutch) (September 2021- present) I am currently in my fourth year and I am averaging a First across my first 3 years of study. A Levels (achieved May 2021) A*: English Literature (AQA), French (AQA), History (Edexcel) A: Extended Project [English Language focus] GCSEs (achieved June 2019) 9: French (AQA), Combined Science 8: History (Edexcel), Religious Studies, Latin, English Language 7: English Literature (AQA), Mathematics

My passion for education and cross-cultural communication prompted me to transition from a career in law to teaching English Soft Skills and Cross-Cultural Communication overseas. I have taught in-person and online classes in a variety of countries including Thailand, Malaysia, Italy, Spain, France, Germany, Russia, the UAE, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey. I specialised in teaching Young Learners, Academic English, Business and General English. I helped students acquire the ability to understand, speak, read, and write in English. I provided academic English instruction to students aiming for success in academic settings, focusing on advanced language skills, essay writing, and academic vocabulary. My experience has made me self-motivated and skilled in teaching students of various proficiency levels. I create personalised lesson plans tailored to each individual's learning goals and areas for improvement. I have a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree, which served as the foundation for my legal skills. To further my interest in justice, I pursued a Master's degree in law and comparative criminal justice, focusing on immigration and modern slavery concerns. I recently completed a CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) course to improve my English language teaching skills. My educational background demonstrates a dedication to both legal knowledge and language instruction.

Tutoring Preference: - Primary English and Maths - SATs Preparation - NO SEN EXPERIENCE I pride myself on my friendly and approachable demeanour, coupled with a naturally bubbly personality. This enables me to effortlessly connect with students, fostering an environment where they feel comfortable and motivated to learn. Building strong relationships with my students is at the heart of my teaching philosophy. How my Sessions Go: I meticulously plan each tutoring session to ensure an enriching and productive learning experience for my students. Every session kicks off with an engaging starter activity covering a diverse range of topics. This initial assessment allows me to pinpoint each student's strengths and areas for improvement effectively. I believe in the power of visual aids to enhance understanding. That's why I always come prepared with informative presentations tailored to the topic at hand. These presentations serve as valuable learning tools, providing clarity and depth to the subject matter. Throughout the session, I incorporate a mix of interactive activities. Some tasks involve direct engagement with me, facilitating personalised guidance and feedback. Meanwhile, I also provide independent activities that challenge students to apply their knowledge autonomously. These activities are thoughtfully designed to be both stimulating and educational. As a firm believer in the importance of motivation and engagement, I love to conclude sessions with a fun, educational game. These games not only serve as a rewarding break but also help maintain focus and enthusiasm. By integrating elements of play into learning, I ensure that students remain actively engaged and invested in their progress. Through this structured approach, I aim to create a supportive and dynamic learning environment where students feel encouraged to explore, learn, and excel. I tailor personalised study plans to address your child's individual needs, ensuring they receive the support where they need it most. By creating mini assessments on topics covered, I closely monitor your child's progress and provide detailed reports on their development. Following each session, I promptly send a comprehensive feedback report and supplementary homework within 24 hours. This approach not only reinforces the concepts we've covered but also boosts your child's confidence and knowledge. I bring a wealth of experience and expertise to my role as a tutor, with a strong foundation in both academic and industry qualifications: - Level 2 Apprenticeship in Children and Young People's Workforce: Completed following my GCSEs, this apprenticeship provided me with invaluable insights into child development and effective teaching strategies. - Primary Teaching Assistant Experience: Over the past four years, I've honed my skills as a Primary Teaching Assistant, gaining extensive knowledge of the English and Maths curriculum. This hands-on experience has equipped me with a deep understanding of students' learning needs and effective classroom management techniques. - Degree in Digital Marketing: Alongside my work as a Primary Teaching Assistant, I pursued a degree in Digital Marketing, further enhancing my communication and organizational skills. - Tutoring Experience with GoStudent: In April 2022, I joined GoStudent, a leading global ed-tech company, where I've been tutoring Key Stage 2 students in English and Maths. What is Key Stage 2?
Key Stage 2 (KS2) is the term used to refer to the second stage of a child’s primary education and covers Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Children are typically aged between 7 and 11 years old in KS2.
What subjects are covered at Key Stage 2?
Children are taught the following subjects:
Schools must also provide Religious Education, although parents can ask that their children are taken out of part or all the lessons.
The focus of Key Stage 2
Maths and English are the focus of Key Stage 2 as they are considered gateways to future learning. In English, children progress from reading with a focus on comprehension to grasping overall concepts through age-appropriate literature. They learn how to craft well-punctuated and structured sentences and express their ideas clearly. In Maths, children should be able to perform calculations with increasingly large and complex numbers, including long division and multiplication. They will also use measuring instruments like rulers and make connections between measurements and numbers. That’s not to say the other subjects aren’t important for a well-rounded education. For example, science covers the basics of biology, physics and chemistry, and an understanding of the world is introduced in history and geography. Computing is considered essential in today’s world.
Tests and assessment
Children take exams known as SATs (Standardised Assessment Tests) at the end of KS2 in the following subjects:
The SATS results are used to assess progress in English and maths and measure school performance.
How to choose a KS2 tutor
Key Stage 2 is a crucial stage in your child’s education as it builds a foundation in core skills and prepares them for the more demanding requirements of secondary education. If your child is struggling in one or more subjects or lacks overall motivation and confidence, it’s important to address these issues before they start falling behind in their learning. The SATs are culmination of work over the whole of KS2 and not just Year 6, so your child will benefit from tutoring at any stage. It’s important to choose an experienced KS2 tutor who can offer lessons adapted to your child’s specific needs and who will provide you with regular feedback on their progress. At GoStudent, our tutors offer adaptive learning, where lessons, readings and practice activities are personalised towards the individual child and based on their current skills and performance. They also offer interactive and engaging lessons that will keep your child’s interest – and could spark a love for learning that will last through their academic career and beyond.
Is private KS2 tuition affordable?
Your child can get KS2 tuition for as low as £21.99 per session. The price of each private tuition session depends on how regularly and for how long your child takes tuition with us. Book a free trial session with us and you can find out how affordable private tuition with GoStudent can be for you.
How many other levels does GoStudent offer other than KS2 tuition?
As well as private KS2 tuition, GoStudent can help your child with 11 other levels. Pick from many subjects including Geography, History, German. And with GoStudent your child isn't tied into one level. If they are taking KS2 tuition but then need support with a different level, we can help them get that support with a tutor specialised in that level.
How can private KS2 tuition help your child?
