Hi, I'm James! I'm a 22-year-old Philosophy and History Student at the University of Exeter. I can tutor in the following: - GCSE Maths - GCSE Religious Studies/Philosophy - A-Level Religious Studies/Philosophy I have a wealth of experience teaching roughly 30 students between the ages of 14-18, from early GCSE to late A-Level in all these subjects. During the 5 years of tutoring experience I've had since starting in Sixth Form, I have managed to refine an adaptable system that allows me to get the best out of all of my students, regardless of their initial capability. I am patient, engaging and easy-going, and I know exactly how to maximise one's potential. When I'm not studying or tutoring, I practice in Wado-Ryu Karate or work as DJ at my local Indie Nightclub in Exeter. I am also the sitting President of the Philosophy Society at Exeter, an organisation with roughly 200 members. I've had great successes during my time tutoring; my finest hour is getting two girls from Grades 4 to 7 in their GCSE Maths Exams within 9 Months. To see my students achieve grades that they previously thought unattainable is something that will never cease to make me smile :) I look forward to working with you! I am a Maths GCSE tutor who has just finished A-levels and am going to the University of Manchester for Engineering. In addition to maths, I have completed my A-levels in Biology and Chemistry and so have the capacity to teach both. I look forward to both helping students ace their exams and having fun along the way! I have completed both my GCSEs and A-Levels at Simon Langton Grammar School. I achieved straight A grades in every subject at both of those levels. As a result I was accepted to study engineering at the University of Manchester. A-Level subjects involving Maths, Biology and Chemistry.

I have finished my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics at Exeter University. In my spare time I like to help pupils with their studies, spend my time at a gym class or go for a walk. I also love to read, especially horror books, or play on my Nintendo switch. My favourite part of maths is pure, such as Algebra and trigonometry, but I love all maths! I did Maths, Further Maths and Physics at A-level, achieving an A* in maths at A-level and a 9 at GCSE. I finished my degree in Mathematics at the University of Exeter in 2023 with a first class mark. I have over 700 hours of experience with tutoring maths to a range of ages from 4-21 both online and in person.

The whole setup at GoStudent is fantastic. Great online software which makes everything so easy from booking to the actual lessons. Then there’s our tutor, Zac. He’s exceptional beyond anything we could have hoped for in a teacher. Fun, enthusiastic, super smart and an excellent role model for the children he teaches. Our sone has gone from struggling to a confidence I’ve never seen in him before when it comes to maths. Thank you!

What is Key Stage 4?
Key Stage 4 (KS4) comprises Year 10 and Year 11, when students are aged between 14 and 16. During this time they are working towards their GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education), which are a gateway to further education and career paths.
What subjects are covered in Key Stage 4?
The national curriculum offers the following subjects:
Compulsory subjects that must be taken by all students are:
Schools must also offer at least one subject from each of these areas:
Academic students may be encouraged to take the English Baccalaureate, or EBacc. This is not a separate qualification, but a combination of six different GCSEs: English, maths, two sciences, a language and either history or geography.
Schools must also provide relationships, sex and health education and Religious Education (RE). Parents can ask for their children to be taken out of sex education lessons and all or some of RE lessons.
What is the focus of KS4?
The focus at KS4 is around preparing pupils for their transition to post-16 provision at the end of Year 11, for example A-levels, BTECs or the International Baccalaureate (IB).
Most students work towards national qualifications, usually their GCSEs. This is when they will start to study subjects that align with their strengths, interests and future goals, and at a greater depth than they have been able to before.
How to choose a KS4 tutor
Many students struggle with the one-size-fits-all approach often found in classroom settings. This can lead them to develop a negative mindset towards learning and a loss in confidence in their abilities. They can fall behind in their schoolwork and lose the motivation to put in the required effort to succeed.
KS4 tutors can provide targeted support in specific subjects where students may be struggling or need extra help to excel. This can be especially helpful if the student has special educational needs such as ADHD or dyslexia.
While most final exams take place at the end of Year 11, coursework and assessments are completed throughout the stage, so it’s important students always perform to their full potential.
GoStudent tutors have expertise in specific subject areas on the curriculum and offer a personalised approach tailored to individual needs, strengths, and weaknesses. They can close knowledge gaps, keep learning on track and help with exam preparation.
In addition, they can teach effective study techniques and time management strategies which can significantly improve performance, not only in KS4 but for the rest of the student’s academic career.
How much does private KS4 tuition cost?
Prices for private KS4 tuition can be as low as £21.99. The cost of each individual lesson will depend on how many lessons your child takes per week and how long they would like tuition for. Book a free trial session to see how affordable private KS4 tutoring can be with GoStudent.
How many other levels does GoStudent offer other than KS4 tuition?
As well as private KS4 tuition, GoStudent can help your child with 11 other levels. Pick from many subjects including Biology, French, Chemistry. And with GoStudent your child isn't tied into one level. If they are taking KS4 tuition but then need support with a different level, we can help them get that support with a tutor specialised in that level.
What are the benefits of private KS4 tutoring for your child?
There are many reasons why parents decide to hire a private tutor for KS4 tutoring. Some parents fear that they don’t have the knowledge to help their children with their homework or exam preparation. Others might not have the time to sit with children and work through homework. Our KS4 tutors can take away this stress by helping your child consolidate what they have been learning in school, working through their homework with them and building their confidence ahead of their exams. You can rest easy knowing that our tutors are experts in their subjects and have the knowledge and teaching abilities to not only spark your child’s interest in the subject but also foster a lifelong love of learning. Discover how your child can take advantage of these benefits by booking a free trial lesson.
Can my child take private KS4 tuition online?
With GoStudent your child can get private tuition online from one of our KS4 tutors. Online tuition is a great option for you and your child, meaning you don't have to take your child to a class or cover the cost of a tutor to come to your home. Why not see how private tuition can work for you and your child by booking a free trial lesson.
