Hi there. James here, from South Africa. I taught in London in Walthamstow for my probationary year in 1991, and then in Johannesburg and Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa for a total of 21 years. I have taught Cambridge A Level History and England and South Africa's English and History curricula. I am also a published researcher, poet, and author. I enjoy cross-country running. I like NETFLIX mystery series. I regularly get out wilderness walking and cross country swimming. Since February 2025, I tutor English and Religious Studies for GoStudent. I battled with learning difficulties at school. However, I did very well after school, because I knew that English opens doors. So, I set goals. Then I achieved a B.A (1985) and a B. Ed (1996) degree, at Wits University in Johannesburg. I did a Masters Degree in Theology (Regent College, Vancouver, B.C., 2001) and a PhD in Church History (University of KwaZulu-Natal, 2016). I believe education is a lifelong journey. We master English every day for the rest of our lives. So I'm still learning as I tutor GCSE students, A Level students, and juniors, to reach their highest goals.

I’m a patient and supportive tutor specialising IGCSE Edexel English Language and Chemistry. I focus on breaking down complex topics into clear, simple steps to help students build confidence and understanding. My lessons are tailored to each student’s needs and goals, whether improving grades or preparing for exams. I achieved A* grades on average in my IGCSEs, demonstrating a strong academic foundation across the sciences. During my studies at the University of Al-Jamea-Tus-Saifiyah, I regularly supported peers and younger students with their learning, helping them better understand key concepts and prepare for exams. I obtained two Degrees while studying in Al-Jamea-Tus-Safiyah Arabic Academy. I continue to build on this experience by tutoring family members, focusing on clear explanations, exam practice, and developing confidence in their abilities.

Hi! I have just finished my PhD at Bath, developing biosensors for cancer diagnostics. My expertise is in Chemistry, Biology, Maths and Physics (in that order!). My undergrad was in Chemical Engineering (via Natural Sciences) at the University of Cambridge. I have experience in teaching students at the University by helping them understand scientific concepts in experimental settings and showing students how these concepts relate to and exist in the real world- not just a textbook! I like to play music and do Scottish reeling in my free time. PhD at the University of Bath- currently finishing. Developing biosensors for cancer diagnostics. This has involved organic and inorganic chemistry, electrochemistry, molecular biology and chemical/biological analysis techniques.
