I am a dedicated and results-driven tutor with a strong academic background in the sciences, supported by hands-on experience in laboratory research and academic writing. I have contributed to a publication with the British Heart Foundation in collaboration with the University of Oxford, which strengthened my ability to analyse complex information and communicate it clearly. Hello! My name is Toby and I am a current student at the University of Reading, studying Pharmacology. I previously attained 3 A-Levels for Chemistry, Biology and Geography as well as tutoring my sisters/family friends during their GCSEs too. I have some great hands on experience at tutoring and I strive for success! My favourite hobbies outside of education is probably skateboarding and making music and I love dogs. :) Previously I attended Penistone Grammar School for secondary education, as I am originally from Sheffield. I took separate sciences for one of my GCSE choices as well as geography and business study’s and achieved 8s in all of these. After this I attended Penistone grammar school 6th form for my A-Levels. I enjoyed it here a lot where I then studied Chemistry, Biology and Geography. From here I achieved all my A-Levels and now go to the University of Reading and study Pharmacology.

I have over 10 years of experience in Education, learning, and development, teaching in both Primary and Secondary Schools. I specialise in teaching 11+, Social Sciences and prepping for national exams. I love helping students bridge the gap between what they currently know and what they need to know, by building confidence and resilience in their subject knowledge and approach to learning, especially in areas which they find particularly daunting. Engagement in learning is key. All lessons must be interactive to encourage learning and development. I encourage engagement through quizzes, questions, games, opinions, matching & sorting activities and use of mixed media. I adapt to different learning styles by meeting children where they are at, finding out what they currently know and using that information as a foundation to make learning accessible for them. I use assessments to track progress and plug gaps in their knowledge. My passion is to create successful learners who are able to achieve and exceed the goals they set for themselves. At A-Level, I studied Sociology (Grade A), Psychology (Grade B) and ICT (Grade C) at Southwark College. I then completed my BSc in Sociology and Criminology at City University, achieving a 2:1. I also have a PGCE in Upper Primary which I completed at Goldsmiths College. Additionally, I have a CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in Learning and Development.

I am currently studying Medicine at the University of Plymouth. From a young age I have always enjoyed helping others as it brings happiness and joy to me. This is also the main reason why I wanted to become a tutor. In my spare time, I enjoy playing sports, particularly football and cricket. I have 2 younger brothers, so I am always entertained. I love talking and spending time with them. For secondary school, I attended the Oxford Spires Academy where I completed my GCSEs. For 6th form, I was accepted by The Cherwell School, where I completed my A-levels. At GCSE level science I achieved a grade 8/8 and at A-levels I achieved grades A in both Biology and Chemistry. In my first year of UCAS application, I did not receive any offers to study Medicine at University. However, towards the end of summer I came across an opportunity to study medicine through an alternative route. The University of Plymouth were offering a one-year transfer from Biomed to Medicine providing one achieved 3 As at A-levels, maintained a 70% pass rate across all modules in 1st year and passed the interview for Medicine. In the previous year only 2/23 applicants were successful in this route. Although this was intense, I was able to successfully transfer from Biomed to Medicine after the 1st year.
