I have worked as a lecturer at De Montfort University for over 15 years. I hold a PGCE in further Education, an MA in English Language Teaching, and a BA honours in English. I taught English for Academic Purposes at university. This enabled me to develop various teaching approaches at different levels of English usage. I have also taught KS3-KS5 in the UK and abroad during which I have been observed several times and demonstrated that I was outstanding. I have used various teaching aids ranging from pictures, flash cards, to a variety of IT techniques. I have also used peer interaction and assessment to develop learners. Teaching at university enabled me to teach presentation skills. This has enabled me to do the same during training, coaching and mentoring sessions with colleagues. I have mentored a number of tutors. In my experience as a university lecturer I have used a variety of online platforms to teach students during the Covid-19 pandemic. I began my journey into English in 2002 when I did a BA (hons) in English at Demontfort university. Following this I did an MA in Children’s Literature in 2005 due to my immense love of reading. However, it was only when I landed a job at a resources centre that I decided to specialize in teaching and so I did a PGCE in education and an MA in English language teaching both in 2007-2009. I absolutely love teaching since then - as cliche as it sounds it is truly my passion and the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. I love my students and to see them excel truly makes me content. I’ve been told that I have a gift for building a rapport with learners and I to feel this is something that comes naturally to me because as a student I myself struggled with being misunderstood and branded as a ‘bad student’. I feel as a result I can relate to students and their struggles more easily. I’m also very patient and an excellent listener.

I am a Physics graduate from the University of Bath, where I achieved a First Class degree, and I am now completing a Master’s in Physics at Imperial College London. Over the course of my studies, I developed a strong foundation in mathematics, physics, and problem-solving, with particular interests in astrophysics and theoretical physics. Alongside my academic background, I have experience mentoring university peers and supporting GCSE students in maths, helping them to build confidence and achieve higher results. I aim to make lessons engaging, supportive, and tailored to each student's needs, focusing on both subject knowledge and exam technique. I achieved grade 9s in both Mathematics and Physics at GCSE, before going on to earn A*s in Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry at A level. I then studied Physics at the University of Bath, graduating with First Class honours, where I developed strong expertise in advanced maths and physics, from quantum theory to astrophysics. I am now completing a Master’s in Physics at Imperial College London, specialising in theoretical and mathematical physics.

Hello! My name is Zoha, and I'm currently navigating through my masters year in my Pharmaceutical Chemistry Degree. I have just finished a year in industry working as a formulations chemist at Domino Printing Sciences, Cambridge - from which I can offer real-world insights that enhance understanding and make lessons even more engaging. I now serve as a peer mentor - once again - on my course, where I support fellow students in navigating student life and academic studies. Beyond my professional and academic life, I have a love for learning that extends into everything I do, which is why tutoring has become such a rewarding experience for me. I teach a variety of subjects, with a focus on GCSE and A-Level Maths and Chemistry. With experience in teaching a range of exam boards including Edexcel, AQA Mathematics, AQA Sciences, and SQA National 5s, I bring a comprehensive understanding of the curriculum and exam expectations. My aim is not just to help students pass their exams, but to instil a deeper understanding of the material, which fosters both confidence and curiosity. My tutoring style is calm, clear and supportive. I understand that each student learns in their own way, so I tailor my sessions to suit individuals needs and learning styles. Whether it's building foundational knowledge, tackling tricky topics, or preparing for exams, my goal is to help students feel confident and capable. Outside of teaching, I’m always exploring new hobbies - currently, I enjoy sketching, painting, crocheting, knitting and computer programming. I’m also a plant enthusiast, always discovering new ways to nurture and grow! I find that this curiosity and love for learning spills over into my teaching, where I encourage students to develop a similar mindset of exploration and growth. Hello, my name is Alex. I am a first year student studying Economics at the University of Leeds. In my spare time, I like to play football, as well as go to the gym and go out with my friends. I also enjoy watching football, and I support Manchester United. I have tutored 6 different students over the past 2 years for GCSE maths, with a variety of skill levels, but all of them achieving their target grades or higher. I went to Sir John Lawes School for both secondary school and sixth form. I achieved 5 8s and 5 9s in my GCSEs and A* A* A at A level. I’m now studying Economics BSC at the University of Leeds. I have always been passionate for maths and it has been both my strongest and favourite subject throughout my entire school life. I won the KS3 maths award.
