Hello! I'm Ashleigh, an experienced English tutor with nearly a decade of teaching experience. I'm here to help you navigate the complexities of language and literature. Whether we're analysing Shakespeare or refining your creative writing, my aim is to make learning both enriching and enjoyable. Originally from Manchester, I now live in Scotland with my cat, Gus. I’ve always loved literature and enjoy exploring different perspectives through a wide range of genres, from dystopian fiction to poetry. I’m especially drawn to writing poetry that captures people, landscapes, and the natural beauty of Scotland. I also have a keen interest in TV and film, which often inspires the way I think about storytelling and brings a bit of imagination into my lessons. Alongside tutoring, I’m currently completing a PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Strathclyde, where I’m developing a novel while researching how storytelling shapes the way we understand relationships and human experiences. I’m also working on a collection of short stories that explore human connections, while continuing to write poetry. My academic journey began at the University of Stirling, where I completed a BA (Hons) in English Studies and later an MLitt in Creative Writing, graduating with distinction. Alongside tutoring, I’m also a published short story writer and poet, a freelance editor, and currently completing a Level 5 TEFL qualification. My teaching style is professional but relaxed, with a focus on building confidence, encouraging independent thinking, and helping students develop the skills they need to succeed. I’m a medical student with a passion for teaching Biology, Science, and Maths at primary and GCSE levels. Almost 10 years in higher education, I’ve learned two key things: 1) Every student can succeed with the right teaching approach, and 2) Learning should be active, using techniques like spaced repetition and active recall. I focus on breaking down complex topics, using examples, mnemonics, and past papers to help students understand. I’m patient and adaptable, always ready to find new ways to explain concepts if needed. Outside of academics, I’m passionate about sports, gaming, and tech. I’ve coached an under-15 basketball team and teach guitar at my church, which helps me connect with students and build trust to boost their confidence and performance. I graduated from Glasgow in 2020 with a 2:1 in Biomedical Sciences and am currently pursuing a medical degree. In 2020, I graduated from the University of Essex (UK) with a degree in Biomedical Science (BSc), giving me a strong foundation in Life Sciences, including Biology. Prior to that, I took my Leaving Certificate in Biology, Chemistry and Physics (all higher level) in Franciscan College Gormanston, Ireland.
