My name is Jillian Rowe, and I am a passionate Mathematics Teacher who finds true joy in teaching. I love teaching because it deeply satisfies me to be part of my students’ success, and it is very rewarding to witness their growth and achievements. I teach Mathematics to learners of any age, and my mission is to make the subject more approachable and less intimidating. I also live by the belief of working hard until I reach success, a mindset I encourage my students to adopt as well. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading inspirational books, singing, jogging, and walking, which keep me motivated and balanced in both life and work. I am currently pursuing my Master of Education, Major in Instructional Leadership, at Pangasinan State University, where I have consistently maintained excellent grades. I previously graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor in Secondary Education, Major in Mathematics, at John Paul College, which gave me a solid foundation in teaching and learning. Alongside my formal teaching career, I have extensive experience in tutoring students of different ages, including a 5-year-old, a 13-year-old, and a 17-year-old, in both English and Mathematics. I also have meaningful experience working with students who have special educational needs (SEN), ensuring that I provide inclusive and supportive learning tailored to each learner’s needs.

I am an encouraging, patient, and highly experienced GCSE and A-Level Chemistry tutor, with a strong academic background and a genuine passion for helping students build confidence and succeed. I hold a PhD in Bioengineering and Materials Science from Imperial College London, and I have also worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford. My academic training began with a Master’s degree in Chemistry with Biomedicine from King’s College London, where I was recognised as the Most Outstanding Graduate. This journey has given me a deep and thorough understanding of chemistry, as well as the ability to explain complex ideas clearly and simply. Alongside my studies and research career, teaching has always been a core part of what I do. I have delivered university tutorials, supported undergraduate and Master’s students, organised revision sessions, and mentored students at different stages of their education. I also have several years of experience tutoring GCSE and A-Level Chemistry, both one-to-one and in small groups. My teaching style is calm, structured, and supportive. I believe every student can do well with the right guidance and approach. I focus on building strong foundations first — making sure key concepts truly make sense — before gradually moving on to more challenging topics and exam-style questions. This helps students feel confident, reduce anxiety around exams, and develop strong problem-solving skills. I am particularly experienced at identifying where students are getting stuck and adapting my explanations to suit different learning styles. I have a strong academic foundation in chemistry and related sciences, combined with extensive experience in teaching, mentoring, and one-to-one tutoring across multiple educational levels. I have worked as a lecturer at De Montfort University for over 15 years. I hold a PGCE in further Education, an MA in English Language Teaching, and a BA honours in English. I taught English for Academic Purposes at university. This enabled me to develop various teaching approaches at different levels of English usage. I have also taught KS3-KS5 in the UK and abroad during which I have been observed several times and demonstrated that I was outstanding. I have used various teaching aids ranging from pictures, flash cards, to a variety of IT techniques. I have also used peer interaction and assessment to develop learners. Teaching at university enabled me to teach presentation skills. This has enabled me to do the same during training, coaching and mentoring sessions with colleagues. I have mentored a number of tutors. In my experience as a university lecturer I have used a variety of online platforms to teach students during the Covid-19 pandemic. I began my journey into English in 2002 when I did a BA (hons) in English at Demontfort university. Following this I did an MA in Children’s Literature in 2005 due to my immense love of reading. However, it was only when I landed a job at a resources centre that I decided to specialize in teaching and so I did a PGCE in education and an MA in English language teaching both in 2007-2009. I absolutely love teaching since then - as cliche as it sounds it is truly my passion and the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. I love my students and to see them excel truly makes me content. I’ve been told that I have a gift for building a rapport with learners and I to feel this is something that comes naturally to me because as a student I myself struggled with being misunderstood and branded as a ‘bad student’. I feel as a result I can relate to students and their struggles more easily. I’m also very patient and an excellent listener.
