I love Economics and I am passionate about helping young people achieve in Maths as it provides important fundamentals for life and further study. I am a Economics graduate from the University of Nottingham. I achieved a first class grade of 78 in my dissertation on stock market volatility following the '24 fiscal budget announcement and obtained a 2:1 in my degree overall. Before university, I studied Economics, Maths and Geography with an Extended Project at A-level (A*A*AB). I studied Edexcel A Economics, Edexcel Geography and AQA Maths. In secondary school, I took 9 GCSE's including the core subjects as well as Geography, French, Art and Textiles.

Hello, my name is George Barnes! I am a highly motivated and dedicated teacher of Science, committed to helping students unlock their full potential. I am a qualified and experienced science teacher specialising in Biology, with a proven record of delivering results at KS3, GCSE and A-level. My motivation to pursue a career in education began in 2016 when I volunteered for two months in Accra, Ghana, teaching English and introducing organised sports in a secondary school. This experience reinforced my belief in the transformative power of education and ultimately inspired me to become a qualified teacher. Following this, throughout my time as a Student at the University of Bristol, I worked as a member of the university student inclusion team as a Peer Assisted Study Leader; this role involved supporting classes of 20 first year students at the University and helping them to learn more effectively through planned activities and discussions, ultimately helping them to feel more prepared for their upcoming examinations. My passion for Biology and conservation studies has heightened my awareness of the crucial need to protect our environment. Whilst at University, this conviction prompted me to extend my exploration beyond the classroom curriculum and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to volunteer for one month at a Sea Turtle Conservation centre in Sri Lanka. This experience not only allowed me to immerse myself in a different culture but also enabled me to share my growing knowledge of conservation with local communities and work along side and learn from local experts. Additionally, my dedication to Biology led me to participate in a research project in the rain forests of Costa Rica, conducted in collaboration with the University of Bristol. This trip provided me the opportunity to design and defend a research project and contribute to ongoing research at the University. Again, here I was fortunate to see first hand the impacts of a changing world on the environment in this part of the world and learn from other leading Scientists. After graduating from the University of Bristol with a BSc in Biological Sciences, I then began working towards achieving qualified teacher status and working as a teacher of Science at a secondary school in 2020. I achieved my Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Buckinghamshire and I am experienced in teaching pupils of all ages from Year 7 through to Year 13. In 2024, I left my teaching post in order to relocate to support my partners work goals. In doing so, I have also changed my full time profession and I now have experience as a production manager and head of production in the events industry, managing international event logistics and leading team operations. However, I am still deeply passionate about science and teaching; I find helping students achieve their goals to be immensely rewarding. As a secondary school pupil myself I achieved excellent results, obtaining 12 GCSES all graded A or A*, including Maths & English, with A*'s in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. At A-level I then went on to study Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, Religious Education and also achieved an AS level qualification in Critical thinking. Following this, I attended the University of Bristol, a Russel Group university which is renowned for its world-leading research and academic excellence. Here, I achieved my undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences. Following this, I began working towards achieving qualified teacher status and took my first post as a teacher of Science at a secondary school in 2020. I attended the university of Buckingham and completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education with a focus on Science in order to become a qualified teacher. Through my university studies, I have not only gained expert science subject knowledge but I also have an excellent understanding of the latest teaching methods to help facilitate learning and, ultimately, help pupils achieve their goals. Further to this I also have other experience in coaching and mentoring roles. In 2016, I volunteered for 6 weeks in a primary school in Accra, Ghana. My primary role was teaching English to students, but given that I have achieved a Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training and level 1 qualified rugby coach, I also helped to introduce organised sport in the school and also coached local men's rugby team, the Dansoman Hurricanes.

Since joining GoStudent back in April 2023, I’ve had the incredible privilege of tutoring for over two years — and what a journey it has been! In that time, I’ve not only grown as a teacher but also as a communicator, motivator, and lifelong learner. Beyond the textbooks, I’ve always believed that learning should be creative and enjoyable. I Graduated from Philippine Normal University where I took up Bachelor of Science in Mathematics for Teachers. I also had 39 units in masteral at the same school but unfortunately, I was not able to finish it because of giving birth to my first born. I was also qualified to took up special courses like the Spanish class and I finish until level 7. After my graduation, I already took Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) and fortunately, I was able to pass it. My first experience in teaching was in private school wherein I taught Algebra and Geometry. My stay there was so remarkable because it helped me a lot in terms classroom management, teaching styles, and the experience I needed to be a better teacher in the Future. Currently, I am a Junior High School Math Teacher and Mathematics Trainer in a Public School. I started being the mathematics trainer just last year, and fortunately with the help and guidance of our Lord we ranked 1st in our division area sectoral. I considered it as one of my big accomplishments because, being a trainer is not that easy. You need to exert extra effort and time to feed the necessary knowledge that your students needed. You need to research different questions that will help your students to be prepared in the contest. It is very heart-wrenching knowing that you are part of the success of your students and your school. I am also a trainer of tower of Hanoi. A contest that helps your student to think critically. I also handled Open High School Students in our school, where majority of my students were out of school youth due to family problem, early pregnancy, financially unstable and working students. With my experience in handling them for 6 years, I must say, I learned to be more open-minded and considerate with my students. To give extra effort to help them finish their studies. To let them feel that they are not alone, and they have a support system not just a teacher. Being a teacher, you need not only to be intellectually literate but also emotionally literate. You need to be ready all the time and, in every situation.
