Hi, I’m Maja! (Pronounced Maya). I’m an astrophysics graduate and a qualified secondary school science teacher. I’ve been through the full rollercoaster of science education, from fighting my way through a master’s degree and emerging with first-class honours, to teaching Year 9s on a Friday afternoon who would rather be anywhere else. Now I help GCSE and A-Level students believe what I already know: you can do this. My goal is to make science feel understandable, interesting, and even a bit fun. When I’m not teaching, you'll find me hanging upside down on an aerial hoop, or writing stories inspired by science and folklore. I went to secondary school in Hungary, where I was initially more interested in the humanities, until I fell in love with space and modern physics. For my leaving qualifications, I completed Advanced Exams in Mathematics and Physics and achieved an A. At university, I completed an integrated Master of Physics degree at the University of Southampton. My first three years focused on general physics (including lab work, mechanics, quantum physics, solid state physics, and wave physics) with a few modules of astronomy. During my master’s year, I had the incredible opportunity to conduct research at the Harvard & Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics, where I studied the relationship between black holes and their host galaxies and wrote my thesis on this topic. I graduated with first-class honours in Astrophysics. After university, I felt drawn to education and wanted to help students grasp the beauty of science, so I completed a year of school-centred initial teacher training. I now hold a PGCE with QTS as a qualified science teacher.

My academic training gave me a deep appreciation of the richness and diversity of the Spanish-speaking world, from Golden Age literature to contemporary Latin American society. I am also a published poet. I have experience of teaching English Language and Literature. Alongside my academic qualifications, I also completed a PGCE and obtained Qualified Teacher Status through the St Mary's University. This provided me with strong pedagogical foundations in lesson planning, assessment, classroom management, and differentiated learning. I have experience teaching students of different ages and abilities and aim to create engaging lessons that build both confidence and linguistic competence. I have lived and travelled extensively in Spain and Latin America, experiences that significantly enriched my understanding of regional accents, idiomatic language, social customs, and cultural traditions. Hi! My name is Aurora and I am a postgraduate student at the University of Manchester, studying a Masters in Development Economics. I am originally from Italy, but I moved to the UK when I was 16 and sat both my GCSEs and A Levels in London. In my GCSEs I achieved 8 A* and 4 A grades. These were the second-highest results in my cohort, despite the fact I had only been living in England for two years before sitting my exams. At sixth form, I taught myself French A Level in just one year and achieved an A grade, the highest grade in my class. I have always found learning languages an extremely rewarding, albeit sometimes frustrating process. Although languages open up doors to new ways of thinking and seeing the world around you, grasping the different aspects of a language, such as its grammar, can be demoralising. And that’s what I am here for - as a fellow language learner, I can empathise with the difficulties of this process and will do my best to make it as smooth and fun as possible. Furthermore, as a foreigner who has been through the UK education system, I am able to advise those in similar positions and facing similar challenges. Students learn in different ways, so I will adapt our lessons depending on your preferred learning style.
