I have been working as a freelance English tutor since 2023, working with online tutoring companies GoStudent, Edumentors and Tutorful, and Glasgow-based in-person company Clever Tutors. I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a First Class Honours in Drama and Contemporary Performance in 2023, and am currently completing a part-time Master's in Theatre Studies at the University of Glasgow. Having left school in 2019 with an A in Advanced Higher English and seven Highers, I am very familiar with the difficulties many students face when sitting their SQA exams. I have also tutored pupils at the BGE/KS3 stage, working with them on reading, writing and literacy to help them develop important life skills that improve their performance across the curriculum. I have also tutored GCSE English for the AQA and EdExcel curriculums, helping numerous students improve their mock exam results in both English Language and Literature and supporting them through their exams. Before tutoring English, I was an assistant tutor for the LAMDA Acting classes at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness for two years, and served as the CREATIVE Ambassador to Millburn Academy, directing the school drama club for three years. My tutoring style focuses on the student, working with them to identify their needs and goals, creating a learning plan that engages their creativity and providing support beyond the lessons through the setting of homework and challenges to further the student's learning. I always take time to get to know each student on an individual basis to better tailor my lessons to their needs and interests, and I combine a laid-back approachability with structure as needed. I have previously worked with young people with ADHD, autism and dyslexia, and have received positive feedback from parents and pupils who have benefitted from my patience, passion and diligence. Outside of teaching, I am a writer and theatre director. I love films, playing music and cooking. Hi, I am a first year law student at the University of Warwick. I have a strong passion for humans which led me to pursue law as a degree. I thoroughly enjoyed studying psychology during A Levels and have developed a deep passion for the subject. As a result, I want to share that passion with other students and help them achieve their academic goals I tailor each lesson for my students to ensure they learn in a proactive way to retain the knowledge. Also, students are encouraged to ask questions throughout the lesson but also throughout the week In my free time, I enjoy long distance running and I also recently got back into roller skating which is a hobby I enjoy doing to pass time. I completed my GCSEs in 2022 achieving a grade 9 in Maths and English Literature and an 8 in English Language. I went on to complete my A Levels in English Literature, History and Psychology at Brampton Manor Academy, achieving A*AA (A* in Psychology) Currently, I am studying law at Warwick University

Hi there. James here, from South Africa. I taught in London in Walthamstow for my probationary year in 1991, and then in Johannesburg and Kwazulu-Natal in South Africa for a total of 21 years. I have taught Cambridge A Level History and England and South Africa's English and History curricula. I am also a published researcher, poet, and author. I enjoy cross-country running. I like NETFLIX mystery series. I regularly get out wilderness walking and cross country swimming. Since February 2025, I tutor English and Religious Studies for GoStudent. I battled with learning difficulties at school. However, I did very well after school, because I knew that English opens doors. So, I set goals. Then I achieved a B.A (1985) and a B. Ed (1996) degree, at Wits University in Johannesburg. I did a Masters Degree in Theology (Regent College, Vancouver, B.C., 2001) and a PhD in Church History (University of KwaZulu-Natal, 2016). I believe education is a lifelong journey. We master English every day for the rest of our lives. So I'm still learning as I tutor GCSE students, A Level students, and juniors, to reach their highest goals.

GCSE - English Literature/Language A Level - English Literature/Philosophy My name is Jyotsna and my interests are in philosophy, reading and writing, hence why I want to teach the lot! My teaching style is mostly discussion-based - almost like Socratic questioning. I believe this helps ideas and concepts stay in your mind for longer, as the student is the one that has to do the intellectual heavy lifting. I have just started the first year of my philosophy degree at the University of Durham, after having completed English Literature and Philosophy A-Level. I have tutored a GCSE English student before and have also led KS3 philosophy society, where we have discussions based on the A Level Philosophy syllabus (Utilitarianism, Kant’s deontological ethics and Aristotleian virtue ethics).

Ewan the tutor for my Son for A levels was simply amazing. He had in-depth knowledge of the subject and was able to answer all the answers to the questions posed. My Son has been doing great under the guidance and training of the tutor. I can simply suggest him to others for training.

I enrolled my daughter who is six years old with GoStudent during the height of the pandemic, when I enrolled her she could not read and could barely count to ten, she was given Neola as her tutor and it began from there, the interaction between these two was awesome Neola made her feel so comfortable and at ease and she was able to express herself more and more each session, now my daughter can read anything you give her and she is brilliant at math and it’s all because of Neola. I would recommend GoStudent to anyone who ask as they have world class tutors like Neola and I am eternally grateful for care and guidance she shows while tutoring my daughter. Thank you Neola you are an awesome tutor and we look forward to having you tutor Marissa for years to come.

The boys enjoyed it but struggled after their first tutor left and lost their enthusiasm,no homework and the improvement in school is not a lot. I tried to prepare them for 11+ but they are not there at all.Communication is not great either. I later received a phone call from a lovely gentleman and all my concerns were dealt with appropriately. Thank you for listening to me ❤️

I really appriate the monthly calls to check if I have any notes or complains and them even asking about my daughter's school.

What are GCSEs?
GCSEs are qualifications that students in the UK achieve at the end of their compulsory education.
A GCSE grade is given to each subject and calculated on written exams, practical exams and coursework.
How important are GCSEs?
GCSEs are a universally recognised qualification in the UK.
Specific GCSE grades may be required when applying for further education. This includes applications for college, sixth form and university, or when applying for a job.
GCSEs can come with a lot of pressure and expectation but your child can achieve the grades that they need with lots of practice as well as guidance from a GCSE tutor.
At what age do you take GCSEs?
Students take their GCSE exams around age 16, in the last months of the academic year at school, although the syllabus is taught between the ages of 14-16 years.
There is now more weight than ever being placed on final exams (instead of coursework), so students must be well equipped to perform on the day.
Which GCSEs are compulsory?
The core subjects for GCSEs are maths, English and science.
Other GCSEs include languages (usually French, German or Spanish), humanities (such as history, geography or religious studies), art (music, art, media, drama) and technical (food technology, design and technology, computer science).
Can GCSEs be re-marked?
If your child is on the cusp of getting the grade that they hoped for or the result simply does not seem fair, the paper in question can be sent back to the exam board for appeal.
Many students appeal exam results when they are one or two marks away from the next grade up. The right study plan and a good understanding of the marking scheme for each exam can help avoid this situation.
If your child has achieved marks close to the grade line in their mock exams, it could be time to get them some help with a GCSE tutor.
