Hello! My name is Erin, I am currently a first year medical student at the University of Birmingham. As a tutor, my main aim is to quickly determine a students weaknesses, then create a dedicated study plan to help them improve in those areas. I believe that active recall, spaced repetition, and lots and lots of past paper questions - are the key to success! I am well versed in tutoring students of all ages; I have tutored various students ranging from ages 6 to 16 in a variety of different settings. I am also experienced in entrance exam tutoring. Having sat several entrance exams over my lifetime, I understand how to make a study plan that is both time efficient and effective, and how to utilise this study plan effectively. I have previously mentored students who wish to study medicine through UCAS, entrance exam and interview preparation; several of them currently study at top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge! In my spare time, I am a highly creative person - I frequently attend dance classes, I music direct/conduct my university choir, and I scrapbook! I also love to read :) Currently attending the University of Birmingham Medical School - 1st year, Medicine. Attended a top London Grammar school; where I achieved 10 A*s (Grades 8-9) at GCSE level, and 3 As at A level in Biology, Chemistry, and Psychology. In addition to educational qualifications, I also study the piano; I have completed my Grade 8 and am currently working towards my diploma in Music Performance!

Even if my availability doesn't suit you, please message me and we may be able to come to an alternative time slot. Having completed my GCSE;s (1992) and A levels (1995), I moved to the University of Derby to complete a BSC (HONS) degree in Biology (1998) and then onto a PGCE (Secondary science) with DeMontfort University (1999). I have then taught in 4 schools over my career as a teacher of science, where I also had additional responsibilities such as Head of Biology and Deputy Head of the 6th form.

Hi, I’m Darius, a 20-year-old student entering my third year of studying Physics at the University of Oxford. I achieved eleven grade 9s at GCSE and five A* grades at A-level in Maths, Further Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and my EPQ. I have a strong passion for learning and enjoy helping others develop the same. I offer tutoring in Physics, Maths and Further Maths from KS1 through to KS5. My Teaching Approach In an age where tools like ChatGPT are widely used, students can sometimes struggle with misinformation and a lack of structured repetition. This is where guided support from someone with a strong academic background can make a real difference. My sessions are carefully tailored to your individual learning style and goals. I start by gaining a clear understanding of your strengths and areas that need improvement through discussion and assessment exercises. From there, I design a structured plan that focuses on reinforcing core concepts, addressing weaker topics, and building the problem-solving skills necessary for exam success. My approach goes beyond simply working through questions—I aim to develop a deep conceptual understanding so that students can tackle unfamiliar problems with confidence. I incorporate proven strategies for efficient revision, exam technique, and time management, sharing the tips and tricks that helped me excel in these subjects. Visual explanations, step-by-step reasoning, or lots of practice questions, I’ll adapt my teaching style to suit your needs and keep sessions engaging and productive. Outside of Academics In my free time, I enjoy playing piano and have achieved Grade 8. I also like staying active by representing my college in football and challenging my younger brother to tennis matches (sometimes letting him win). I’m also a keen pool player and enjoy both the social side and the competitive edge it brings. Outside of that, I’m working on improving my chess skills, I’m a passionate Arsenal fan and I love watching a good film. I am a third year Physics student at the University of Oxford. What is the IGCSE?
The IGCSE (which stands for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is taken by students aged 14-16 (Year 10 and 11) to prepare them for further pre-university level study, such as A-levels.
It offers the same level of education as a traditional GCSE but does not have a UK-centric curriculum. For example, Shakespeare is a compulsory part of GCSE English Literature but not the IGCSE.
Children in state schools usually take GCSEs whilst those in private and international schools are more likely to take IGCSEs. Universities do not distinguish between the two when it comes to entry requirements. The exams are assessed externally.
What is the focus of the IGCSE?
The IGCSE focuses on developing understanding, skill, and knowledge in the following areas:
Subject content
The application of knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations
Intellectual enquiry
Flexibility and responsiveness to change
Working and communicating in English
Influencing outcomes
Cultural awareness
What subjects are studied?
IGCSEs are available in a broad range of subjects but curriculums vary considerably depending on the school.
Students typically take seven to nine subjects, which must include the core subjects of English, mathematics and science (biology, chemistry, physics).
Optional subjects include humanities (history, geography), modern languages, the creative arts (art, music), STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and sports.
Preparing for the IGCSEs
Historically, the GCSE had a greater amount of coursework in the syllabus compared to the IGCSE. This has changed in recent years and both qualifications are based mainly on the end-of-course exams.
The exams test theoretical knowledge, practical skills, problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills – which are essential for further education as well as future careers.
Revision is key to retaining information and reinforcing understanding and should be done regularly rather than cramming all the content at the last minute.
Practicing past papers and taking mock exams will allow you to become familiar with the exam structure, improve your time management skills and discover any areas of weakness.
How can a tutor help with preparing for the IGCSEs?
A tutor can help at any stage of the process, whether it is over the two years of study or in the run-up to the exams.
GoStudent IGCSE tutors have experience in the specific subjects covered in the curriculum as well as a proven track record of success. They offer personalised lessons that can target problematic areas and can help create realistic and achievable study schedules that balance your time across the different subjects.
ICGSE tutors can also teach you effective study techniques. These will help you not only with the exams but in your future academic career.
If you are struggling with either the coursework or exam preparation, don’t delay seeking help. Feeling prepared and confident for your exams allows you to have a clear and focused mind - and achieve to your full potential.

How can your child benefit from iGCSE tuition?
The main reason that parents often start to look for a iGCSE tutor is to improve their child’s academic performance. Your child’s grades and understanding of the subject will improve when working with a tutor but there are also other benefits you might consider when deciding whether to opt for private iGCSE tutoring. Tutoring encourages self-directed learning. This means that your child will learn to take the initiative in their schoolwork, with the result that they will feel less overwhelmed or frustrated with school and more in control of their own learning. They will also learn study skills that will help them in life when it comes to university and beyond. Whether it’s learning to overcome obstacles in their studies, losing the fear of asking questions or even working on their social skills.
