My name is Monica and I have just graduated from St. Andrews with an MA in history and social anthropology. I always loved history and indeed still do. I choose to study anthropology because my English teacher got rather annoyed at my consistent questions about the characters' lives. "Just go study anthropology then" - and that is what I did. I am have graduated with a further masters with distinction in the history of Scotland and am moving onto a PHD this October. I love being able to combine my two passions in one degree. I try to explain it as anthropology giving an understanding of the present and history of the past. The marriage of the two academic subjects is interesting, indeed. For example, for my dissertation in the School of Anthropology looks at the community in Glasgow in 1592; tracking the influence of the Reformation at a local freedom. School exams definitely prepare you well for university expectations! There were some things that stood out for me at school as helping. I think you have to look after yourself as well as sticking to a study plan, definitely schedule breaks as well as something nice every now and again. I also think essay plans are key for the arts and english examinations and that is something I would be keen to help students create. Ultimately you need to understand the content, not merely recite a list of facts, once you do it is far easier to remember and argue your point in an exam.

I'm currently in my second year of med school at Newcastle University, juggling my studies with a taste for adventure. Growing up bilingual (thanks to my English father and Italian mother), I've had the privilege of experiencing two vibrant cultures. Most of our family vacations revolve around my Italian heritage, which is something I truly cherish. When I'm not nose-deep in my medical textbooks, you can catch me kicking a football on the field or sweating it out at the gym. Staying active is a big deal for me. Plus, I'm all about exploring new avenues. This year, I decided to give bouldering a shot – it's quite hard at first but once you get the hang of it, it can be really good fun. Sports are woven into the fabric of my life, whether I'm the one playing or just an eager spectator. I am a medical student at UCL with a strong academic background, having achieved A* grades at A-level in Maths, Biology, and Chemistry. I have a genuine passion for teaching and enjoy helping students understand challenging concepts in a clear and structured way. Having recently completed GCSEs and A-levels myself, I understand current exam specifications, common pitfalls, and effective revision strategies. My teaching style is supportive and tailored to each student’s needs, focusing on building strong foundations, confidence, and exam technique. I aim not only to help students improve their grades, but also to develop their independence, motivation, and long-term love for learning. I am currently studying Medicine at University College London (UCL), a highly academic and research-led medical school. I attended Lancaster Girls’ Grammar School, where I developed a strong academic foundation and a disciplined approach to learning. Throughout my education, I consistently achieved high academic standards, particularly in Maths and the sciences. At A-level, I achieved 3A*, reflecting both my subject knowledge and my ability to manage a demanding workload. I also achieved full marks in my EPQ, which strengthened my independent research, critical thinking, and academic writing skills. This project required analysing complex information, evaluating evidence, and presenting clear, well-structured arguments—skills that are directly transferable to both medicine and teaching. As a current medical student, I continue to build on this strong educational background through rigorous study and application of scientific knowledge. My academic journey has equipped me with excellent organisation, resilience, and communication skills, which I bring into my tutoring by delivering clear explanations, structured lessons, and tailored support to help students achieve their full potential.

What is Key Stage 2?
Key Stage 2 (KS2) is the term used to refer to the second stage of a child’s primary education and covers Years 3, 4, 5 and 6. Children are typically aged between 7 and 11 years old in KS2.
What subjects are covered at Key Stage 2?
Children are taught the following subjects:
Schools must also provide Religious Education, although parents can ask that their children are taken out of part or all the lessons.
The focus of Key Stage 2
Maths and English are the focus of Key Stage 2 as they are considered gateways to future learning. In English, children progress from reading with a focus on comprehension to grasping overall concepts through age-appropriate literature. They learn how to craft well-punctuated and structured sentences and express their ideas clearly. In Maths, children should be able to perform calculations with increasingly large and complex numbers, including long division and multiplication. They will also use measuring instruments like rulers and make connections between measurements and numbers. That’s not to say the other subjects aren’t important for a well-rounded education. For example, science covers the basics of biology, physics and chemistry, and an understanding of the world is introduced in history and geography. Computing is considered essential in today’s world.
Tests and assessment
Children take exams known as SATs (Standardised Assessment Tests) at the end of KS2 in the following subjects:
The SATS results are used to assess progress in English and maths and measure school performance.
How to choose a KS2 tutor
Key Stage 2 is a crucial stage in your child’s education as it builds a foundation in core skills and prepares them for the more demanding requirements of secondary education. If your child is struggling in one or more subjects or lacks overall motivation and confidence, it’s important to address these issues before they start falling behind in their learning. The SATs are culmination of work over the whole of KS2 and not just Year 6, so your child will benefit from tutoring at any stage. It’s important to choose an experienced KS2 tutor who can offer lessons adapted to your child’s specific needs and who will provide you with regular feedback on their progress. At GoStudent, our tutors offer adaptive learning, where lessons, readings and practice activities are personalised towards the individual child and based on their current skills and performance. They also offer interactive and engaging lessons that will keep your child’s interest – and could spark a love for learning that will last through their academic career and beyond.
Is private KS2 tuition affordable?
Your child can get KS2 tuition for as low as £21.99 per session. The price of each private tuition session depends on how regularly and for how long your child takes tuition with us. Book a free trial session with us and you can find out how affordable private tuition with GoStudent can be for you.
How many other levels does GoStudent offer other than KS2 tuition?
As well as private KS2 tuition, GoStudent can help your child with 11 other levels. Pick from many subjects including Geography, History, German. And with GoStudent your child isn't tied into one level. If they are taking KS2 tuition but then need support with a different level, we can help them get that support with a tutor specialised in that level.
