I have been working as a freelance English tutor since 2023, working with online tutoring companies GoStudent, Edumentors and Tutorful, and Glasgow-based in-person company Clever Tutors. I graduated from Manchester Metropolitan University with a First Class Honours in Drama and Contemporary Performance in 2023, and am currently completing a part-time Master's in Theatre Studies at the University of Glasgow. Having left school in 2019 with an A in Advanced Higher English and seven Highers, I am very familiar with the difficulties many students face when sitting their SQA exams. I have also tutored pupils at the BGE/KS3 stage, working with them on reading, writing and literacy to help them develop important life skills that improve their performance across the curriculum. I have also tutored GCSE English for the AQA and EdExcel curriculums, helping numerous students improve their mock exam results in both English Language and Literature and supporting them through their exams. Before tutoring English, I was an assistant tutor for the LAMDA Acting classes at Eden Court Theatre, Inverness for two years, and served as the CREATIVE Ambassador to Millburn Academy, directing the school drama club for three years. My tutoring style focuses on the student, working with them to identify their needs and goals, creating a learning plan that engages their creativity and providing support beyond the lessons through the setting of homework and challenges to further the student's learning. I always take time to get to know each student on an individual basis to better tailor my lessons to their needs and interests, and I combine a laid-back approachability with structure as needed. I have previously worked with young people with ADHD, autism and dyslexia, and have received positive feedback from parents and pupils who have benefitted from my patience, passion and diligence. Outside of teaching, I am a writer and theatre director. I love films, playing music and cooking. Hi James here, from South Africa. After 20 years of secondary school classroom teaching in English and History, I am branching out into online teaching. I taught in London, at Walthamstow for my probationary year in 1991, and have since taught in South Africa, in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands. I am a published poet, and author. My first novel, ARAM OF EDOM is doing really well. I run Parkrun, grow and sell organic vegetables, and enjoy wilderness walking. So, I battled when I was at school, with special learning needs, but I have managed to do well after school, earning B.A (1985) and B. Ed (1996) degrees, at Wits University in Johannesburg. I have a Masters Degree in Theology (Regent College, Vancouver, B.C., 2001) and a PhD in Church History (University of KwaZulu-Natal, 2016). I am a great believer that education happens every day for our whole lives. Language opens doors to learn new things every day. I especially enjoy learning new things about English, or about how we learn, in every single GoStudent lesson.

I’m a 24-year-old dental student with a passion for both my studies and my hobbies. In my free time, I love taking dance classes, which allow me to express myself creatively and stay active. I’m enthusiastic about learning, whether it’s perfecting dental techniques or mastering new dance moves. My friends describe me as approachable and energetic. I started my academic journey at Beaconsfield High School, where I completed my GCSE. I thoroughly enjoyed GCSE Maths the most. I then took on A-levels in Maths, Chemistry, and Biology, which fueled my passion for pursuing a career in dentistry. After finishing my A-levels, I decided to study abroad at Plovdiv Medical University in Bulgaria. It’s been an amazing experience! Overall, my educational background has equipped me with the knowledge and skills I need for my career.

Katie was a stand in tutor for my son while his usual tutor was sitting very important examinations. On each occasion she has proved to be an extremely capable and supportive tutor. I would definitely seek out Katie in the future if my son was to extend his online study.

My daughter enjoys her lessons with Joseph, which is testament to his teaching skills as she has always hated maths. After her lessons she has regularly commented that she, 'actually understood it!' Thank-you.

We have three very good tutors for my son. My son is making progress in all three lessons (Maths, Italian and English). I would really rate all three as very good tutors because he is not only making progress but he even enjoys the lessons with all of them. He would not want to change his current tutors.

I had the pleasure of working with Siham and the experience was transformative for my children academic journey. 1. **Personalized Approach**: Miss Siham tailored the sessions to fit the Kids unique learning style and pace. It assessed their strengths and weaknesses and customized the lessons accordingly, which significantly boosted their understanding and retention of the material. The depth of knowledge that Tutor possesses in their subject area is impressive. Siham exhibited immense patience, never making the children feel rushed or pressured.

What is Key Stage 3?
Key Stage 3 (KS3) covers the three years of school known as Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9, when students are between 11 and 14 years of age.
It follows the national curriculum and prepares children for more advanced learning at KS4/GCSE level.
What subjects are covered in Key Stage 3?
The compulsory subjects at Key Stage 3 are:
Additional subjects include Religious Education (RE) and Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE), which includes sex education. Parents can request that their children opt out of sex education lessons and either parts of RE or all the lessons.
The focus of Key Stage 3
KS3 forms a bridge between primary school and GCSE study. It deepens knowledge and understanding in the different subjects and focuses on developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The curriculum is designed to be broad so that students can explore their interests and abilities in a wide range of subjects. This is essential when it comes to deciding which subjects to pursue at GCSE level – a crucial decision which influences future academic and career paths.
How is KS3 assessed?
Learning is assessed in two ways: how well students are learning and remembering the curriculum and whether they are understanding what they have learned.
There are no national or external assessments at Key Stage 3. Instead, teachers carry out ongoing assessments for each pupil in each of the year groups.
How to choose a KS3 tutor
Whether your child is struggling with making the transition from primary to secondary school or having difficulties with one or more subjects in any of the years, a KS3 tutor can help them close any gaps in their understanding while helping to build confidence and motivation.
Tutoring can also help students needing an extra boost before entering the Key Stage 4 GCSE years.
It’s essential the tutor is a subject specialist and experienced in adaptive learning, which prioritises personalised learning tailored to the individual’s needs and understanding. This approach allows students to work at their own pace and truly master any problem areas before moving on.
GoStudent has a range of qualified and experienced tutors in all subjects covered in the KS3 curriculum. They can suggest effective study techniques and deepen understanding while helping create a study plan that will keep learning on track.
With the help of a tutor, your child can reach their full potential and develop love of learning that will carry them through the rest of their school years and beyond.
