I'm a medical student with 8+ years tutoring (A level / GCSE,). My expertise in chemistry / biology / maths. I have lots of experience in teaching humanity subjects such as English, sociology, and history. * Only AS chemistry and maths * I teach students at varying levels so it's important to adapt and adjust accordingly. If you're a visual learner, let's draw. If you're an auditory learner, let's discuss. If you're a note taker, let's learn the best note taking method for you! I do, however, encourage all my students to engage in spaced repetition learning. Whether we schedule that in during our sessions or if we use anki, this is probably the most important method of retaining information. Medical student with 5As in a-level biology, chemistry, maths, English, and sociology. GCSEs are all A*-A.

~ Welcome to Ms. A. L River's Classes ~ It is a pleasure to have you here on this journey! I cannot wait to meet your sproutlings (and establishing trees), continuing the process of discovering and nurturing their passions with them. I have six years experience of guiding and teaching students of various ages. All lessons are preplanned, with the student's interests and passions intentionally worked into the teaching. TEACHING TOOLS: * Screen sharing facilities, * co-writing, including mind-mapping and more * illustrations * key stage-relevant worksheets, * quizzes / past exam questions (familiar with AQA, OCR, WJEC, Pearsons/Edexcel) * recorded videos * thought provoking, practical application in the world relevant to the student WHO I WORK WITH: Pupils desiring improvement in their subjects (who may not yet know they will enjoy the process!) Particularly: - those who may find typical lessons less engaging of their focus, and enjoy a more interactive, magical style of teaching. - those who desire continuous encouragement, support, and prefer experimentation with various techniques & styles of teaching - those who desire more effort and time to build a trusting connection with their tutor - those who need fun as part of their learning experience (everyone!) I prefer to work with one pupil on a number of subjects rather than one, as subjects can tie-in and feed into one another in explaining the world through a multi-disciplinary lens. My Plan: Building ongoing connection and tailoring my sessions to your child's/ your specific learning style and/or needs. This part is integral to the learning process, and our first session will ensure an in-depth understanding of the student's most aligned learning style. SUBJECTS key stage 1-3 (ages 5-14) All core & foundation subjects as stated on the 'national curriculum in England - Framework document' GSCEs Key stage 3 (ages 14-16) all core subjects + Media + Drama/acting + Art & Design + Geography + History + ICT +R.S / Philosophy Sixth Form AS/A-Levels: *Psychology *English Lit (and English Lang) *History/ Classical Civilisations *Philosophy *Anthropology *Media and/or film studies I look forward to working with you, book a package to start now! Miss Jenny Simister

Purchasing GoStudent tuition for my Son was the best decision I have made. The tutors keep my Son engaged and focused during his lessons. They cater for my son as an individual by assessing his current level of understanding and working on his areas for improvement. They teach the same topics that he is studying at school to ensure he maintains his knowledge and does not get confused. Most importantly, my Son really enjoys his lessons. The GoStudent tuition is really helping my Son with his GCSE studies and supporting him to gain the best grade possible.

Tutoring at Key Stage 4

What is Key Stage 4?

Key Stage 4 (KS4) comprises Year 10 and Year 11, when students are aged between 14 and 16. During this time they are working towards their GCSEs (General Certificate of Secondary Education), which are a gateway to further education and career paths.

What subjects are covered in Key Stage 4?

The national curriculum offers the following subjects:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • History
  • Geography
  • Modern foreign languages
  • Design and technology
  • Art and design
  • Music
  • Physical education
  • Citizenship
  • Computing

Compulsory subjects that must be taken by all students are:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • Computing
  • Physical education
  • Citizenship

Schools must also offer at least one subject from each of these areas:

  • Arts (e.g. art and design, music, drama)
  • Design and technology (e.g. DT, graphics, cooking and nutrition)
  • Humanities (e.g. combined humanities, history, geography, RE)
  • Modern foreign languages (e.g. French, German, Spanish)

Academic students may be encouraged to take the English Baccalaureate, or EBacc. This is not a separate qualification, but a combination of six different GCSEs: English, maths, two sciences, a language and either history or geography.

Schools must also provide relationships, sex and health education and Religious Education (RE). Parents can ask for their children to be taken out of sex education lessons and all or some of RE lessons.

What is the focus of KS4?

The focus at KS4 is around preparing pupils for their transition to post-16 provision at the end of Year 11, for example A-levels, BTECs or the International Baccalaureate (IB).

Most students work towards national qualifications, usually their GCSEs. This is when they will start to study subjects that align with their strengths, interests and future goals, and at a greater depth than they have been able to before.

How to choose a KS4 tutor

Many students struggle with the one-size-fits-all approach often found in classroom settings. This can lead them to develop a negative mindset towards learning and a loss in confidence in their abilities. They can fall behind in their schoolwork and lose the motivation to put in the required effort to succeed.

KS4 tutors can provide targeted support in specific subjects where students may be struggling or need extra help to excel. This can be especially helpful if the student has special educational needs such as ADHD or dyslexia.

While most final exams take place at the end of Year 11, coursework and assessments are completed throughout the stage, so it’s important students always perform to their full potential.

GoStudent tutors have expertise in specific subject areas on the curriculum and offer a personalised approach tailored to individual needs, strengths, and weaknesses. They can close knowledge gaps, keep learning on track and help with exam preparation.

In addition, they can teach effective study techniques and time management strategies which can significantly improve performance, not only in KS4 but for the rest of the student’s academic career.
