Hi there! I have over 4 years experience tutoring a range of subjects. My specialties are maths, physics, chemistry and Spanish, which I've mostly taught at A-Level and GCSE tiers. I have a BA in mathematics which I studied alongside tutoring, so I can appreciate teaching from both sides of the classroom. Much of my experience revolves around helping students to prepare for exams, and working through past papers together is an invaluable tool for this. I'm also very passionate about my subjects, with STEM I've always had a deep personal interest in how the Universe works, and I've always loved Spain and seeing how the logic in different languages works. I enjoy explaining what I know to others, which puts me in a good position to be a tutor. It's also great to see students progressing over time. My tutoring method is based around giving the student the tools they need and guiding them to solve problems themselves, rather than simply being told the answers. I believe this process helps students to learn how to think critically, and thus become more independent and able to solve problems on their own in the future. Some of my hobbies include hiking with my dog, learning languages and exploring new places! BA in mathematics

Hello, my name is Kirstie and I have been teaching for 21 years. I have spent time both in British secondary schools and in schools in Vietnam and Singapore. My main subject and passion is the study of History and I can teach this from Key Stage 3 all the way up to A-Level. My favourite period is the Tudors and I particularly enjoy the stories of the women of this time. I also tutor KS3 English and GCSE English Language and English Literature and am very familiar with AQA, Eduqas and Edexcel exam boards. I also have experience teaching Geography up to GCSE and find the two subjects actually quite complement each other with many of the themes over-lapping. I discovered a love for geography from my love of the great outdoors – I would often find myself on the top of a mountain admiring glacial landscapes and wondering how all the features were formed. This in turn links to my philosophy for education: I believe education should be a journey of discovery that allows the learner to move forwards with their knowledge and understanding of the world around them without putting them under so much pressure that they don’t enjoy it. I believe that effort is necessary in order to be successful, but that learning should not be a struggle or something that is dreaded. I am here to help students achieve their goals and become successful members of their community. In my spare time I enjoy running and drinking coffee with friends. I have 2 cats and have been married for almost 7 years. I am currently learning French in order to pursue my dream of moving to France to start a new life on the continent. As well as my degree in History and English and Literary Studies and my PGCE History, I have a TESOL certificate. I spent a month in Prague getting my TESOL and then taught ESL in Vietnam for 2 years. Outside of classroom education, I have my Lowland Leader award and spent 4 years running the Duke of Edinburgh award at my school.

I have been teaching English for GCSE, Junior Cert and Leaving Cert, as well as teaching Junior Cert and Leaving Cert French online for the last two years. As well as this, I teach primary school Irish and Ordinary Level Irish for the Junior and Leaving Certificate exams. I also have experience in tutoring EFL students with a low-level of English and helping them to gain confidence in their language skills. I have guided many students towards achieving both higher grades and developing genuine interest in the subjects I teach through my engaging and clear teaching style. I strongly believe that when students are comfortable with their tutor, and when they have a say in what material needs to be studied, they find it easier to actively learn and to absorb the information which they are being taught. I graduated with a First in BSc Medical Sciences Firstly, we will work out the student's weak topics using a past paper. Then, we will focus on those topics. I am good at explaining concepts in an easy-to-understand way. I use homework videos and questions to reinforce the student's knowledge. I also use end of topic tests and past papers. We will set time-specific goals, so the student has already achieved their target grade by the time their exam comes around. I know exactly what the examiners are looking for in your answers, so I will coach you on how to gain all the marks for each type of question. By the time we have spent a few months together, your understanding will have improved greatly.
