Hello! I'm Ali. I'm in my third year at the University of Edinburgh, studying English Literature. Having achieved almost 100% in my A level and GCSE English Lit/Lang courses, my goal as a tutor is not only to improve your grades, but provide you with the techniques that beat the system. English is more formulaic than you think, and I can't wait to show you how to ace it all. I'm passionate about drama, cooking and poetry and my favourite book is the Great Gatsby! I have worked as a lecturer at De Montfort University for over 15 years. I hold a PGCE in further Education, an MA in English Language Teaching, and a BA honours in English. I taught English for Academic Purposes at university. This enabled me to develop various teaching approaches at different levels of English usage. I have also taught KS3-KS5 in the UK and abroad during which I have been observed several times and demonstrated that I was outstanding. I have used various teaching aids ranging from pictures, flash cards, to a variety of IT techniques. I have also used peer interaction and assessment to develop learners. Teaching at university enabled me to teach presentation skills. This has enabled me to do the same during training, coaching and mentoring sessions with colleagues. I have mentored a number of tutors. In my experience as a university lecturer I have used a variety of online platforms to teach students during the Covid-19 pandemic. I began my journey into English in 2002 when I did a BA (hons) in English at Demontfort university. Following this I did an MA in Children’s Literature in 2005 due to my immense love of reading. However, it was only when I landed a job at a resources centre that I decided to specialize in teaching and so I did a PGCE in education and an MA in English language teaching both in 2007-2009. I absolutely love teaching since then - as cliche as it sounds it is truly my passion and the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. I love my students and to see them excel truly makes me content. I’ve been told that I have a gift for building a rapport with learners and I to feel this is something that comes naturally to me because as a student I myself struggled with being misunderstood and branded as a ‘bad student’. I feel as a result I can relate to students and their struggles more easily. I’m also very patient and an excellent listener.

I've been a tutor four years now, helping dozens of students. I'll work with you in conversation, which'll brings us intellectually close to each other. This allows empathy to guide the learning process. - Subjects I teach: - Lower level: Writing, History, Physical Ed. - GCSE: Writing, Computer Science, Physical Ed. - AS-level: Writing, Math, Biology and Physics. - A-Level: Biology. - Languages: Spanish (native speaker) and English as a second language. One of the challenges I often face is answering an insightful question. If I'm not able to do it independently, I focus on relating to you through a simpler concept we are both familiar with. By breaking this concept down into smaller pieces and unveiling our own understanding of it, we enlighten ourselves. The thing I enjoy most about teaching is learning about you. I help with a tough concept or methodology by relating my presentation to how you reckon already known matters. This process will familiarize us with your subject's topics. This is the reason why we'll mostly avoid memorizing stuff. - Do you find lectures boring? If so, you'll find my lessons a perfect fit! Our lessons won't be old-school. Whether you're cutting your teeth with tuition or not, you'll be in conversation with me. As your tutor, I'll share thoughts back and forth and build our understanding of your subject's concepts and methods. - Do you find yourself in stupor at school? From our very first class, I'll lead you to explore and become your own coach, so that you can see results after the first two weeks. We don't need to learn by heart most of the things required to pass with flying colors. As your mentor, I pursue with fervor the breaking down of concepts and getting to the bottom of them. Once we achieve this, you won't have to revise said concepts ever again. - What if you find exams particularly tough? Isn't it annoying when you know the material but still can't get those marks? I offer exam preparation and methods to get those precious marks. We'll read the questions together and work on writing expression. I took first-year University courses in Chemistry and Engineering. These included subjects like Physics, Biology, Statistics, Algebra, Calculus, etc. Lastly, I'm a self-taught personal trainer. Throughout this particular academic endeavour, I studied biomechanics and anatomy, with a solid knowledge of their application to weightlifting.

Hi, I'm Marwa. I'm currently studying mechanical engineering with a strong interest in physics. I've worked as an in-person tutor, mostly in physics and biology, I've also tutored mathematics and english at KS2 level, which helped me develop great communication skills and the ability to explain complex concepts in simple ways! I went to High School where I earned a grade 6 in Mathematics, Chemistry and Biology. After that, I studied at College and completed a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science with grades D*,D,D. I currently study mechanical engineering at university.
