My teaching philosophy is shaped by my academic background in anthropology and interest in how culture influence the production of knowledge. I also have knowledge in film studies and skills in audio-visual production. I can support students in their academic and artistic creative process. In my teaching, I link the learning material and cultures to engage in communication with the students and contextualise what we are learning. Hello! I’m Katy, an experienced and approachable tutor passionate about helping students build confidence, reach their academic potential and feel genuinely prepared for their exams. For the past five years, I’ve had the pleasure of working with students across a wide range of subjects, with a particular focus on GCSE, iGCSE and A Level preparation. With a degree in Politics & Modern History from the University of Manchester, I’ve worked with students of all abilities and enjoy helping them not only improve their grades, but also become more confident and independent learners. I believe that every student learns differently, so I take the time to understand what works best for each individual and tailor my lessons accordingly. I also specialise in language tuition. Having lived in both Spain and France, I am fluent in Spanish and French and have experience supporting students with all aspects of their language exams, including reading, writing, speaking and listening. I especially enjoy helping students develop their confidence when speaking and making languages feel more natural and enjoyable. Above all, I genuinely enjoy tutoring and getting to know the students I work with. Seeing a student go from feeling unsure about a subject to approaching it with confidence is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. I obtained my undergraduate degree in Modern History & Politics from the University of Manchester in 2021, where I specialised in Russian, Chinese and Modern African history, alongside advanced Spanish modules. Before university, I completed the International Baccalaureate, studying a broad range of subjects including History, Spanish, French, English Literature, Physics and Mathematics. I achieved 13 A*s at GCSE. I am also TEFL qualified and hold a C1 qualification in Spanish. Having lived in both Spain and France, I am fluent in Spanish and French and have worked professionally in both languages. I have experience of tutoring Maths at both GCSE and A level and I thoroughly enjoy helping people to achieve their mathematical ambitions! I graduated from Durham University with a first class honours degree in Mathematics after studying Maths, Further Maths, Physics and French at A level. I have various interests, ranging from cricket to quizzes, with Maths having always been one of them – helping others to work on this subject is a privilege.
