I have worked as a lecturer at De Montfort University for over 15 years. I hold a PGCE in further Education, an MA in English Language Teaching, and a BA honours in English. I taught English for Academic Purposes at university. This enabled me to develop various teaching approaches at different levels of English usage. I have also taught KS3-KS5 in the UK and abroad during which I have been observed several times and demonstrated that I was outstanding. I have used various teaching aids ranging from pictures, flash cards, to a variety of IT techniques. I have also used peer interaction and assessment to develop learners. Teaching at university enabled me to teach presentation skills. This has enabled me to do the same during training, coaching and mentoring sessions with colleagues. I have mentored a number of tutors. In my experience as a university lecturer I have used a variety of online platforms to teach students during the Covid-19 pandemic. I began my journey into English in 2002 when I did a BA (hons) in English at Demontfort university. Following this I did an MA in Children’s Literature in 2005 due to my immense love of reading. However, it was only when I landed a job at a resources centre that I decided to specialize in teaching and so I did a PGCE in education and an MA in English language teaching both in 2007-2009. I absolutely love teaching since then - as cliche as it sounds it is truly my passion and the most rewarding thing I’ve ever done. I love my students and to see them excel truly makes me content. I’ve been told that I have a gift for building a rapport with learners and I to feel this is something that comes naturally to me because as a student I myself struggled with being misunderstood and branded as a ‘bad student’. I feel as a result I can relate to students and their struggles more easily. I’m also very patient and an excellent listener.

I'm a dedicated and patient tutor with a strong passion for helping students build confidence and achieve academic success. I have achieved high grades in both GCSEs and A-levels, and have worked with a range of students. Whether a student needs help preparing for exams, catching up in class, or wants to get ahead, I focus on creating a positive and supportive learning environment. My goal is to help students improve their grades while also inspiring curiosity and helping them form strategies for success. I have completed both my GCSEs and A-Levels in the UK, achieving strong results across a range of academic subjects. At GCSE level, I studied core subjects including English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, and the Sciences, along with Citizenship, Geography, French and RE, which gave me a well-rounded academic foundation. For A-Levels, I chose to pursue Biology, English Literature and Politics, which not only deepened my subject knowledge but also developed my analytical thinking and problem-solving skills. I am looking forward to studying law at university in October.

Hi, I’m Teacher Joyce, an energetic and passionate English teacher who believes that learning language should be both meaningful and enjoyable. I specialize in helping students build confidence in reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking. For me, English is more than just grammar rules and vocabulary—it’s a powerful tool for self-expression, creativity, and connection with the world. In my classroom, I create an interactive and supportive environment where students feel safe to share their ideas and take academic risks. I also understand that every learner is unique. That’s why I adapt my teaching strategies based on students’ needs, interests, and learning styles. My goal is not just to teach content, but to inspire curiosity, independence, and a genuine love for learning. I graduated with a degree in Secondary Education, majoring in English. My studies provided a strong foundation in teaching methods, linguistics, and literature. I learned to plan engaging lessons, manage classrooms effectively, and adapt my teaching to different learning styles, making sure every student feels encouraged and empowered.

My name is Hannah and I studied English language and linguistics. I also studied the following A levels: Spanish, Psychology and Geography. I love to play the instruments such as the piano for fun and reading. I have a passion for encouraging and supporting students in their learning and to achieve their greatest potential! I have a BA in English language and linguistics, a dissertation in the effectiveness of microlearning through the platform Youtube, in learning Spanish (inspired by my UROP Project). I am currently working in the education sector as a SEN TA, supporting children in their learning. Receiving some training in understanding autism at schools and special needs. I have A levels in Spanish, Geography and Psychology and an AS in English literature. I have done a UROP project at the University of Reading, investigating microlearning using social media to learn the English language. I aspire to do a masters in psychology in hopes to go into educational psychology and supporting the wellbeing of students in education.
