My training in medicine has greatly enhanced my understanding of the sciences, which I bring into my teaching as a biology and human biology tutor. I have been a consistent high scorer throughout my academic journey and tutor students of all ages and levels, across all major UK boards (England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland). My name is Ridha, I am currently in my last year of medical school. I also have a Bachelor's degree in Anesthesia Technology which adds to my in depth knowledge in the field of science. I realized very early on in my education that a good teacher is what contributes largely in the making of a good student. Not only does one need to put all the efforts on their end but also the guidance of a good teacher is what can drive a student to excellence. My aim is to do exactly that - strive hard on the journey of achieving excellence TOGETHER. As a tutor, I will bring this approach to my style of teaching where I am consistently ready to go an extra mile to not only make my students comfortable but also to make them love what they study as opposed to just looking at it like a chore. Whether it is researching the curriculum with the most updated content to ensuring that they are best prepared to write their exams and that their knowledge is not just short lived, rather they have it strongly fixed in their core memory. As a tutor, I will first build a relationship with my students by earning their trust and learn what it is that they value most and assure them that we will work as a team keeping their best interests at heart. In my classes, I would first like to start with icebreakers so my students will be relaxed and ready to start our study session with a new found enthusiasm before diving into the actual content. Then, I would like to learn about their weaknesses and what it is that they have the most difficulty with and keep those points in mind before starting our lessons. Starting from what is easy and then indulge in more challenging topics. I strongly believe that tutoring is a tailor made approach and no two students are the same. So, it is of prime importance to conform based on what an individual student needs. As tedious as studying can get, it is all the more important in today's day and age to make it more fun and enjoyable and I would like to do just that by including quizzes, games, power-points etc related to every topic especially the ones that are more difficult to understand, so as to follow a more modern approach to studying but also including tests and practice some equations or structures to test their knowledge. Hence, maintaining the traditional approach to studying. At the end of each lesson I will encourage the students to summarize what was taught and also practise active recall in the follow up classes in order to solidify their understanding as well as boosting their memory. I will also include mock tests in their lessons which will mimic the actual exams to prepare them better for the same. In my school years, I have experience with helping/ tutoring my fellow students who needed extra help. It has been one of my most prized achievements to watch them pass their exams with my help and guidance. Going from that to having 45+ current students from all over UK, and over 900 lessons has increased my expertise. I am very organized in my everyday life and studies and will be sure to do the same with my sessions to modulate everything in the most systematic way whether it is addressing my students' queries or communicating with their parents about any concerns that they may have, and giving my honest feedback timely regarding any observations I may have about the student and keep them on top of their child's education journey. Over 500 lessons taught to over 20 students in this platform Keen on helping students learn the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in biology and chemistry for both A-level and GCSE exams My teaching experience includes teaching assistant position at a biology lab at Georgia State University (United States of America) for 4 semesters as well as teaching different techniques to lab groups at the institution I am currently enrolled in doing my PhD. I have also delivered over 500 lessons on this online platform to over 20 students seeking help for their GCSE, OCR, WJEC, and AQA A-level exam boards in both chemistry and biology. While my experiences both as a student and as a teacher have developed my communication skills by using the proper tone and terminology, I value the most having learned from the doubts and questions from my past students as well as having done many final past paper questions. Despite every student being different, experience helps tremendously. Some students are very advanced and prefer working on past paper questions by tackling some specific aspects of the exam board, while some others require a bit more work on some modules and require a session more akin to covering a variety of concepts. When teaching new concepts, I use self-made PowerPoint slides specifically designed to incorporate the knowledge required to succeed in the exam questions for that exam board. In these slides, I use a scaffolding teaching technique which is about covering fundamental learning outcomes prior moving towards the more advanced concepts. I also incorporate past paper questions in every lesson to ensure the student is engaging in proactive learning, and not simply passively listening to me talk for 50 minutes. Overall, my goal is to engage the student in his or her own learning by teaching them skills and by giving them greater focus in some areas of each module. A lot of concepts are covered in these exam boards but knowing where to place great emphasis surely fosters their learning. This is where experience teaching these exams really comes into play, and it will also help me quickly devise the best study plan for the student. To complement my online teaching sessions, I have a digital pad that enables me to quickly write notes, draw or paste diagrams to ensure the lesson is smooth and dynamic. Online teaching may seem, at first glance, limited in terms of being able to write notes, however, currently online learning has been greatly updated thanks to such devices. I am currently only teaching biology and chemistry from GCSE and A-level exams but not higher levels (i.e. not teaching university programs). Like many teachers, my personal preference are students that are keen on learning regardless of their starting point. However, I have taught students that needed motivation coming from me and I was able to help them significantly.
