✩ GoStudent Tutor of the Year – 2025 Award 5000+ Lessons Delivered PhD Candidate | A Level & GCSE English Teacher SEN Tutor (Dyslexia Focus) – No Experience with ASD or Other SEN Needs • Preferred Age Group: Year 7 and Above (Native Speakers & EFL/ESL Learners) • Main Focus: AQA, OCR and Edexcel GCSE; Cambridge IGCSE; AS Level; Edexcel A Level English Literature and A Level English Language • IELTS Preparation and Exam Support Over the past five years, I have helped more than 180 students achieve at least a Grade 7 in their GCSE English examinations and supported over 15 students in achieving excellent results in Edexcel A Level English Literature. Having delivered more than 5000 private lessons, I have developed a structured programme that addresses both the theoretical and practical aspects of English Language and Literature. Throughout my teaching experience, I have observed that many GCSE and A Level students struggle with contextual understanding, language and structure analysis, and effective time management in examinations. My lessons are designed to address these challenges through clear guidance, targeted practice, and personalised feedback tailored to each student's needs. About Me Language is not simply a tool for communication; it is a reflection of how we understand ourselves, our culture, and the world around us. I am currently a PhD candidate and have published research on sexism and gender bias in language, exploring how linguistic choices can influence perceptions and social attitudes. My research and teaching experience have reinforced the belief that every student learns differently. As a result, I adapt my teaching methods to suit individual learning styles, helping students build confidence, develop critical thinking skills, and reach their full academic potential. Outside academia, I enjoy going to the gym, playing football, and travelling, which provide a welcome balance to my research and teaching commitments. ✩ Valedictorian Achieved the highest academic ranking throughout both undergraduate and postgraduate studies Education • PhD Candidate (Year 1) • MA with High Distinction | Research Focus: Sociopragmatics and Classroom Research • BA in English Linguistics and Literature (Graduated First in Cohort) • Bachelor's Degree in Education and Teaching Diploma

--- About Me! --- I'm Danny, a 4th year physicist at the University of Edinburgh, currently undergoing a research year abroad working on a thesis at GSI/FAIR, a facility for high energy physics. My work involves a lot of programming, knowledge of physics, and application of engineering and design principles. I love inspiring others and talking about my subject, so any student who comes my way will hopefully leave feeling confident, ready for common exam questions, and most importantly, wanting to learn more beyond their curriculum. I play the violin to a diploma standard, love trying out new cooking recipes (sometimes with disastrous consequences), and really enjoy mountain sports, like climbing and hiking. --- My Education --- As mentioned above, I am a physicist at the University of Edinburgh on a year in industry at GSI. I am working on the upcoming DIRC particle detectors for the PANDA project and the EIC at Brookhaven (google these things, in my opinion they are very cool). This research of course involves knowing a bunch about programming, mathematics and physics! I achieved 4 A* grades at A-Level, in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Music, with the WJEC exam board. For these grades, I abused my poor printer, drilling past paper questions endlessly, so I am very familiar with this specific curriculum. However, mathematics and physics are very similar across all exam boards. There are common questions in every exam, and your child will become familiar and confident with these questions with me, ideally able to reproduce 'stock answers' with a high level of understanding and speed. This saves time in exams and guarantees easy marks; this is a major step in reducing exam anxiety, and one of the main strategies I used to achieve my marks. I taught a STEM program at a US summer camp. It was much more of a 'for fun' thing, so we focused on making classes lightweight and enjoyable, rather than drilling worksheets and past paper questions. As such, I won't exclusively bore tutees to death with math problems! I pride myself on being able to break down concepts into simple to understand analogies. I am also a huge advocate for using past questions as revision material. However, I recognise the importance for students to balance time spent on questions with going over textbook concepts.

Hello! My name is Blessy and I am currently a third-year medical student with over six years of tutoring experience, including three years on the GoStudent platform. Outside of academics, I enjoy going to the gym, watching films and crocheting in my spare time. Alongside tutoring, I also lead teaching sessions for other medical students at my university, which has strengthened my ability to explain complex ideas clearly and adapt to different learning styles. I take a patient and supportive approach and am particularly experienced in working with students who may feel shy, lack confidence or struggle with focus, helping them feel more comfortable and engaged in their learning! I achieved seven 9s, two 8s, one 7, two Distinction* and one Distinction grade at GCSE (all sat in person), along with ABB at A-level in Chemistry, Biology, and Maths. I am currently a medical student studying abroad. My academic background and experience mean I am very familiar with the demands of these subjects. This, combined with a patient and structured approach, allows me to support students in developing both a strong understanding and effective strategies to help them succeed!

Ashbury W.

Hi, I am Ashbury! I am an encouraging Maths and Physics tutor currently studying Physics at the University of Edinburgh, with over a year of experience providing personalised one-to-one tuition at GCSE and A-level. I enjoy building strong connections with my students, helping them to strengthen their understanding, improve performance in STEM subjects, and ultimately reach their academic goals! My sessions are structured to consolidate key concepts while developing exam technique through guided exam-style questions and targeted practice. There is a strong focus on developing problem-solving and resilience that can be applied to independent practice. Additionally, I have an in-depth knowledge of Maths, Physics and Further Maths specifications and questions at GCSE and A-level from teaching and personal experience. I aim to create a supportive and encouraging environment where students feel free to ask any questions, so that they can build long-term confidence in their mathematical skills. I am currently in 2nd year of a 5-year Physics Integrated Masters at the University of Edinburgh, where I have received an A1 (equivalent to a 90%+ first) in all my modules so far. Previously, I attended Sir William Perkins School in Chertsey for all of secondary school, where I achieved 4A* in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Art A-level. My familiarity with mark schemes and exam technique aided in this and supports my tutoring significantly. At GCSE I achieved 10 Grade 9 GCSE's, including all three Sciences, Maths and Further Maths. Additionally, I was Head Prefect at SWPS and also supported tutoring internally, often working with a range of ages.
