My name is Maria Bazhenova, I am originally Russian but I live in Switzerland and go to university in England, Durham University to be specific! I can speak four languages: English, Russian, French and Italian. I have been playing tennis my whole life and love exploring new places! I attended a school in Switzerland where I studied the International Baccalaureate (IB) and completed it and earned the diploma. I then did a one year course at a university business school in London which I received a first class standing in. I am currently a student at Durham University, about to enter my second year after completing my first year, and I am studying Accounting and Finance.

I am a quiet and introspective person who values meaningful connections and thoughtful interactions. Although I may be shy at first, I know how and when to engage with people around me, and I enjoy learning from others’ experiences. I believe that every person I meet has something valuable to teach me, and that genuine communication is built on respect, empathy, and understanding. I always look forward to turning my plans into reality and believe that success is achieved through persistence and discipline. I strive for excellence in everything I do, whether it is in my personal growth, academic journey, or professional responsibilities. I am a dedicated and passionate educator with a strong foundation in both technology and mathematics. I hold a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Limpopo, where I majored in Computer Science and Mathematics. To enhance my teaching capabilities, I completed a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) at North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus. I am registered with the South African Council for Educators (SACE) and uphold the professional standards and ethical conduct expected within the teaching profession. Throughout my academic and professional journey, I have developed a deep appreciation for the power of education and technology in shaping young minds. I have served as an End User Computer Technician, where I gained valuable experience in ICT systems and user support. My teaching experience includes working as a Mathematics tutor for first-year students at the University of Limpopo, teaching Mathematics to Grades 8 and 9 learners, and currently teaching Mathematical Literacy to Grade 11 learners. I approach my work with commitment, patience, and a continuous desire for improvement. I strive to create a learning environment that fosters curiosity, problem-solving, and confidence among students. My goal is to inspire learners to embrace challenges and recognise the importance of small, consistent efforts in achieving success.
