Hello! I'm Ashleigh, an experienced English tutor with nearly a decade of teaching experience. I'm here to help you navigate the complexities of language and literature. Whether we're analysing Shakespeare or refining your creative writing, my aim is to make learning both enriching and enjoyable. Originally from Manchester, I now live in Scotland with my cat, Gus. I’ve always loved literature and enjoy exploring different perspectives through a wide range of genres, from dystopian fiction to poetry. I’m especially drawn to writing poetry that captures people, landscapes, and the natural beauty of Scotland. I also have a keen interest in TV and film, which often inspires the way I think about storytelling and brings a bit of imagination into my lessons. Alongside tutoring, I’m currently completing a PhD in Creative Writing at the University of Strathclyde, where I’m developing a novel while researching how storytelling shapes the way we understand relationships and human experiences. I’m also working on a collection of short stories that explore human connections, while continuing to write poetry. Because I work with different age groups and exam boards, I don’t have every text committed to memory—but if you let me know what you’re studying in advance, I’ll make sure I’m fully up to date and ready to help you get the most out of our lessons. My academic journey began at the University of Stirling, where I completed a BA (Hons) in English Studies and later an MLitt in Creative Writing, graduating with distinction. Alongside tutoring, I’m also a published short story writer and poet, a freelance editor, and currently completing a Level 5 TEFL qualification. My teaching style is professional but relaxed, with a focus on building confidence, encouraging independent thinking, and helping students develop the skills they need to succeed. I’m a chemistry student who loves literature, music and all things mathematical (especially when combined with physics!) I started tutoring 2 years ago part time while studying at college.
