I am basically a B.Sc.-qualified technical person who became a language teacher while working as a computer programmer/systems analyst in Switzerland. I teach regularly online & face-to-face and the languages taught are English, French, German & elementary Arabic. I have been tutoring online for over 5 years, working for such organisations as Berlitz & the British Council. I live near Durham, UK, and have a very wide range of student types, ranging from young learners under 10 to mature business people learning a language for their retirement. After many years in French-speaking Europe, north Africa, the Arabian Gulf, Chile & central Asia, I now live near Durham, UK, and have had a very wide range of student types, ranging from young learners under 10 to mature business people learning a language for their retirement. Although language teaching is my main activity, I can also teach PC windows-technique, Microsoft utilities, and a few GCSE subjects. My EFL (English as a Foreign Language) specialities are IELTS preparation for both Academic & General Training candidates. After O/A-levels and completing an Ordinary National Diploma in Engineering, I chose to do a Computer Science degree at N. Staffordshire Polytechnic because it was possible to study French intensively alongside. This meant that the 3rd (industrial) year had to be spent in a French-speaking country and in my case that was Switzerland, where I spent a year at CERN in Geneva. To become an English language teacher I obtained the CTEFLA in Geneva in 1995 and went on to study for the DELTA.

I help KS3 and GCSE students build real confidence in Spanish — not just memorise vocabulary for the next test, but actually understand and enjoy the language. For the past seven years I've guided teenagers through reading, writing, speaking and listening, with lessons built around exactly what they're examined on (AQA specification). Before tutoring, I worked as a journalist — and it shaped how I teach: I break grammar down the way I'd break down a complex story, clearly and without jargon, always checking it's landed before moving on. I am an experienced maths tutor based in Glasgow. I received my maths degree from the University of Glasgow and have tutored and range of age groups from primary school age, through to high school and also undergraduate. I am passionate about learning and believe that learning is about enjoyment and practicality. I enjoy helping people succeed and ultimately seeing people become more confident within themselves. I have a honours degree in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Glasgow with a particular specialisation in applied mathematics and am currently working towards my second degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies from the University of Stirling.

I’m a chemistry student who loves literature, music and all things mathematical (especially when combined with physics!) I started tutoring 2 years ago part time while studying at college. My favourite things to do include travelling and playing with my dogs. I’m currently an offer holder at the University of Edinburgh for an integrated masters in Chemistry.
