Hi! My name is David and I tutor maths. I graduated from the University of Leicester in 2023 with a First in Mathematics and have been tutoring A-level students over the last three years. From experience, I can say that the best way of learning maths is by doing maths so the lessons I tutor generally involve a lot of questions which we work through together, with you the student gradually becoming more independent and me, the tutor, making sure to fill in any gaps in theory as we go along. Maths can be a very difficult subject but I hope that you will not only be able to succeed with whatever your goals are with the subject, but to enjoy yourself while doing it! I'm a second year Biomedical Science student at Queen Mary University of London with over two years of tutoring experience, mainly teaching GCSE Maths and Science. I’m a third-year aeronautical engineering student who knows from experience what it feels like when lectures, textbooks, or problem sheets just don’t make sense the first (or fifth) time. I’ve been in the position where school support wasn’t quite enough, which is why I enjoy helping students bridge that gap and actually understand what’s going on, not just memorise steps. My approach is relaxed, patient, and focused on building confidence alongside knowledge. There are no silly questions here — if something doesn’t make sense, that just means it’s worth asking about as I strongly believe that asking questions is part of learning, and no one should feel embarrassed for needing things explained differently. Outside academics, I’m a big sports fan and still play football for my own club as well as my university team. I love the outdoors, animals, and generally staying active, which probably explains why I like explanations that are clear, practical, and grounded rather than overly abstract. I’ve had many years of experience volunteering with schools helping students excel in subjects that they find difficult. I’ve always had a passion for science leading me to have a career in microbiology so I know tutoring biology would be a strong suit.
