Hi! My name's Rebecca, and I am a soon-to-be PhD Student, specialising in computational chemistry. I have just finished an integrated master's in Natural Sciences at Cambridge, meaning I've studied Physics and Chemistry at a university level. I have experience supporting university admissions, where I volunteered on open days, school visits, and summer schools throughout my undergraduate studies. A big part of this was small group teaching of year 12s, where we started at A-level content and developed to first-year undergraduate topics. I have also worked as a mentor on Cambridge's STEM SMART programme for Year 12 students. This widening participation program focused on pastoral support for students from low-income backgrounds looking to apply to top universities in the STEM subjects. It was fully computer-based (a massive plus - I’ve never been a fan of lab work!) and I was proud to finish the year with a First. Cambridge is tough, and I was diagnosed with dyslexia after receiving unexpectedly low marks in my first-year exams. My performance steadily improved as I learned how to work with my learning style. I’ve always been a visual and hands-on learner, which likely explains why Chemistry felt so natural to me.
