Hi there! I have over 4 years experience tutoring a range of subjects. My specialties are maths, physics, chemistry and Spanish, which I've mostly taught at A-Level and GCSE tiers. I have a BA in mathematics which I studied alongside tutoring, so I can appreciate teaching from both sides of the classroom. Much of my experience revolves around helping students to prepare for exams, and working through past papers together is an invaluable tool for this. I'm also very passionate about my subjects, with STEM I've always had a deep personal interest in how the Universe works, and I've always loved Spain and seeing how the logic in different languages works. I enjoy explaining what I know to others, which puts me in a good position to be a tutor. It's also great to see students progressing over time. My tutoring method is based around giving the student the tools they need and guiding them to solve problems themselves, rather than simply being told the answers. I believe this process helps students to learn how to think critically, and thus become more independent and able to solve problems on their own in the future. Hello, my name is Kirstie and I have been teaching for 22 years. I live in the middle of France, close to a small spa town and am surrounded by fields, farms and hills. I have spent time both in British secondary schools and in schools in Vietnam and Singapore. My main subject and passion is the study of History and I can teach this from Key Stage 3 all the way up to A-Level. My favourite period is the Tudors and I particularly enjoy the stories of the women of this time. I also teach and tutor KS3 English and GCSE English Language and English Literature and am very familiar with AQA, Eduqas and Edexcel exam boards. I also have experience teaching Geography up to GCSE and find the two subjects actually quite complement each other with many of the themes over-lapping. I discovered a love for geography from my love of the great outdoors – I would often find myself on the top of a mountain admiring glacial landscapes and wondering how all the features were formed. This in turn links to my philosophy for education: I believe education should be a journey of discovery that allows the learner to move forwards with their knowledge and understanding of the world around them without putting them under so much pressure that they don’t enjoy it. I believe that effort is necessary in order to be successful, but that learning should not be a struggle or something that is dreaded. I am here to help students achieve their goals and become successful members of their community. In my spare time I enjoy running, hiking, cycling and drinking coffee with friends. I have 1 cat, 28 chickens and have been married for 11 years. As well as my degree in History and English and Literary Studies and my PGCE History, I have a TESOL certificate. I spent a month in Prague getting my TESOL and then taught ESL in Vietnam for 2 years. Outside of classroom education, I have my Lowland Leader award and spent 4 years running the Duke of Edinburgh award at my school.

I’ve had many years of experience volunteering with schools helping students excel in subjects that they find difficult. I’ve always had a passion for science leading me to have a career in microbiology so I know tutoring biology would be a strong suit. Hopefully, I can encourage more students, especially young women to pursue a future in STEM.
