Hi! I am currently a second-year student at Leeds University studying Zoology. I have a passion for biology but, more specifically, animal biology. I hope to eventually pursue a career in conservation or the study of animal behaviour. My first year at university was almost completely virtual. I, therefore, have first-hand experience with online learning and I can appreciate that it may be more difficult to engage with learning over a computer. My year has taught me many valuable things but something I have certainly picked up is what works online; I am eager to make these lessons engaging and interesting. At primary school level, I am able to teach in any subject, I also have experience with the 11+, having passed and attended a Grammar School. I am looking to teach mostly English Literature and Biology. Despite this, having achieved an A* grade in Chemistry, Physics, French, Spanish, ICT and Maths, as well as English Language and Biology, and an A grade in English Literature and Geography in my GCSEs, I am comfortable in all of these subjects. Having also obtained an A grade at A-level Biology, I am extremely excited about having the opportunity to teach this subject, I hope to be able to share my passion and show just why biology is so great! My interests aren't refined to biology, however; reading has always been an integral part of my life and this is reflected in my love for the study of English as a whole. The book “A Thousand Splendid Suns” by Khaled Hosseini was introduced to me when studying A-level English Literature and has remained to be my favourite novel. I would be very happy to teach both Biology and English Literature to an A-level standard. Outside of academia, I enjoy art. I have recently begun to commission canvas oil paintings and I am also a member of art society at university where we regularly attend art workshops such as life drawing. I also took a year out before joining university in which I was lucky enough to work a ski season in La Plagne, France. Here I worked as a chalet host for three months which was an amazing experience.

I am an undergraduate student, studying English at University of Nottingham. I have experience with both young children and teenagers, and enjoy both making learning fun, and helping young people meet their full potential! I'm friendly and proactive, and have experience working with children with a variety of needs. Most importantly, I believe learning should be suited to the student, not the teacher! I enjoy writing during my free-time, particularly for Nottingham's student publication, and working with young people - whether through sports teams, after-school clubs, or tutoring. I studied at a state comprehensive school in London, where I achieved 10 A*'s-B's at GCSE - including a B in Maths, A's in Science, and A's in both English Language and Literature - and A's and B's at A-Level. I'm currently an undergraduate student studying English, the subject where my strengths most definitely lie. I previously studied in London while working full-time, and am interested in pursuing a TEFL to teach young people English as a second-language.

GCSE/Junior Certificate: English Literature, History, Classics. A- Level/Leaving Certificate: English Literature, History, Classics. Exam Board Experience: Providing lessons for Irish Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate subjects Experience with: Students from 12-18 in the Irish schooling system Students from 4 - Adult teaching ESL in an online environment Adult students teaching ESL individually in person. Adept at teaching to students for whom English is not their first language. Languages: English- Native Speaker Spanish- Basic Preferred student age group: Any age About me: Hello there, My name is John O'Byrne and I am from Ireland I have been teaching for a number of years now, Over the past few years I have been teaching English as a Second Language, I have taught online for over two years and before that I taught Academic English, Business English and Conversational English to individual students in a face to face setting. In university I studied a wide range of subjects including Philosophy, History, English and Arth History before I chose the areas I would focus on for my degree. Eventually I decided on Ancient Greek and Roman Civilization alongside Politics and I was awarded a degree with honours from University College Dublin. After graduation I was invited to participate in their Masters programme but I declined their kind invitation as I wanted a break from the academic life. While in university I participated in a tutoring programme where we went to a number of schools and helped students to prepare for their examinations. I tutored groups of students in a range of subjects but mainly concentrated on English Literature and History. These years tutoring were very rewarding as the students were from under-privileged schools and were quite appreciative of all the help we gave them. Cycling is a passion of mine and as my skill in riding bicycles developed I was given opportunities to work with a few different bicycle companies. I was given bicycles and components in order to test their design and durability. I was also asked to preform in a number of marketing campaigns and advertisements for these bicycle companies. The learning processes in the physical arena and the academic arena are quite similar, they involve focus, critical thinking, repetition and study. These processes can be sped up to a certain extent if you have someone to guide you through them. I was also given the opportunity to teach bicycle skills to various groups of people and I really enjoyed this experience. I enjoy travelling and have lived for periods of time in Sweden and Spain. I have always loved learning and I continue to read about a wide range of subjects including Philosophy, Linguistics, Psychology and works in the areas I studied during my degree. So with this background I believe I can help tutor students in English as a Second Language, English Literature, History and Classics. I hope to see you in class where we can find ways to make the subject you may be having difficulties with interesting and relevant to you. Thank you. I studied in University College Dublin where I was awarded a BA degree with honours in Ancient Greek + Roman Civilization, and Politics. When I graduated I was invited to stay on to complete a Masters Degree in Classics but I declined. During my time in UCD I also studied Philosophy, English and History before I decided on completing my degree in Ancient Greek + Roman Civilization along with Politics. I have studied to teach English as a second language and earned my ESL teaching certification from TEFL.org.

English tutoring to improve grades and self-confidence
Studying English at school includes technical aspects of the language such as grammar and vocabulary, and English literature focuses on text analysis and creative writing.
English-related skills such as reading and writing are vital throughout school, regardless of the subject matter. Learning how to communicate your thoughts clearly boosts self-confidence, improves vocabulary and leads to better exam results.
GoStudent English tutors offer one-to-one lessons tailored to your child’s needs, helping them understand where their weaknesses are in their written work and working with them to improve their writing style.
The advantages of studying English
English is an essential subject in the national curriculum. All students are required to pass English exams at primary school and English makes up one of the three core GCSE subjects in secondary school.
Studying for an English and Literature A-level or an undergraduate or master's degree can be hugely rewarding. Not only will you learn a great deal about the language, you will also be introduced to radically different ways of understanding and explaining the world.
An English degree can open the door to a wide range of career opportunities in fields such as teaching, editing, journalism and law. There is also a growing market for teaching English as a second language either at home or overseas, where the demand might be higher.
English tuition at primary school
English tuition at primary school is an excellent way to prepare for the future. Studying reading and writing helps with English language skills in general, and learning about different authors and their works may very well ignite a passion for reading in your child, laying the foundation for study at a higher level.
English exam preparation and English revision classes
GCSE exams are the qualifications students take at the age of 16. GCSE English provides a solid foundation for studying humanities courses at a higher level, and skills taught include writing essays, reading comprehension and text analysis.
If your child choose to continue to study English Language and Literature at A-level, it's extremely important for them to achieve a solid GCSE foundation.
