I am a first-year university student studying Computer Science, with a strong academic foundation in both mathematics and computing. I specialise in teaching Mathematics and Computer Science, and I have hands-on experience supporting and teaching students within a primary school setting, helping them build confidence and understanding. I successfully completed the 11 Plus examination in Year 6, which reflected my strong academic ability from an early age, particularly in English and Mathematics. I then went on to attend Bartley Green Secondary School, where I studied a wide range of subjects including English, Mathematics, Triple Science, Religious Education, Geography, French, and Computer Science. Studying such a broad curriculum helped me become well-rounded and develop important skills like problem-solving, critical thinking, and clear communication. After secondary school, I attended King Edward VI College, Stourbridge, where I studied A-Levels in Mathematics, Law, and Computer Science. These subjects allowed me to strengthen my logical thinking and analytical skills. Mathematics deepened my confidence in tackling complex problems, Law improved my ability to form structured arguments, and Computer Science further developed my technical knowledge and passion for computing. Overall, my educational journey has been consistent, focused, and driven by a genuine interest in analytical and technical subjects.

New tutor

About Me: Relatable & Expert GCSE Maths Tutor with a Double Master’s Background Hello! My name is Daphne Zhang, and I am a dedicated educator here to help you conquer GCSE Mathematics. My academic foundation is built on two Master’s degrees from prestigious Russell Group universities: an MA in TESOL from the University of Sheffield and an MA in Education from the University of York. However, my most valuable asset as a tutor isn't just my degrees—it’s my empathy. To be honest, I wasn't always a "Maths genius" as a child. I personally experienced the frustration, confusion, and "Maths anxiety" that many students feel today. Because I had to work hard to overcome my own struggles with the subject, I truly understand the mental hurdles you might be facing. This personal journey, combined with years of professional teaching experience, allows me to teach GCSE Mathematics (AQA, Edexcel, and OCR) with a unique perspective. I specialize in turning that "I can't do this" attitude into "I understand this now." My TESOL background further helps me deconstruct complex mathematical terminology into simple, everyday language, making even the most intimidating word problems feel manageable. What we will achieve together: • Build Real Confidence: We create a safe space where no question is "silly." I’ve been in your shoes, so I know exactly how to rebuild your self-belief. • Step-by-Step Clarity: I break down Algebra, Geometry, and Statistics into logical chunks that actually make sense. • Exam Success: By mastering exam techniques and past papers, we will work toward jumping 2–3 grade boundaries. I am not just here to help you pass an exam; I am here to show you that with the right support, anyone can master Mathematics. Let’s start this journey together! My Educational Journey & Professional Foundation My academic and professional foundation in the UK began at the University of York, where I earned my first MA in Education. Studying at one of the UK’s leading centers for pedagogical research provided me with a deep understanding of learning psychology and curriculum design. It was during my time at York that I officially began my career in mathematics instruction. I worked extensively as a GCSE Mathematics tutor, delivering both online and face-to-face sessions to local students. This hands-on experience was very helpful and meaningfull; it allowed me to apply educational theories directly to the classroom, helping students navigate the complexities of the AQA and Edexcel syllabi while building their confidence from the ground up. Following my success at York, I moved on to the University of Sheffield to pursue a second MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). While this might seem like a shift in focus, it was actually a strategic move to enhance my math teaching. At Sheffield, I specialized in applied linguistics and communicative strategies. This advanced training gave me the unique ability to "decode" the language of mathematics. I realized that many students struggle with GCSE Maths not because of the numbers, but because of the complex wording of the questions. My expertise from Sheffield allows me to bridge this linguistic gap, making abstract mathematical concepts accessible and clear for every learner. By combining the pedagogical mastery from York with the linguistic precision from Sheffield, I offer a sophisticated, dual-lens approach to tutoring. My background ensures that I don't just "show" students how to solve equations; I use evidence-based teaching methods to ensure they truly internalize the logic, leading to long-term academic success.

Levels and Subject you Teach Lower Level: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry GCSE: Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, Statistics, General Mathematics Exam and Board Experience: Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) Passer Languages: English and Filipino SEND (Special Education Needs and Disability) Experience: I don't have any experience in handling students with special needs, but I have experience in handling Alternative Learning Students (ALS) and Open High School Students (OHSP). Both students are out of school youth due to family problem, early pregnancy, health issues, financially unstable and etc. Preferred Student Age Group: I prefer students from Primary and Secondary Level. About you: I am teacher Cheran. I am a Mathematics Teacher for 19 years. % years from private school wherein I taught Algebra and Geometry and 14 years in public school wherein I handled different year levels. I am a passionate, hardworking and flexible teacher. During my free time, I love watching volleyball and basketball. I want to watch horror and suspense movies too. I also love singing and dancing. It is one of my dreams to travel around the world and see the beauty of nature. Currently, I'd been teaching Grade 8 students and at the same time the math trainer of our school. Teaching is quite a challenging but fulfilling job. I love to see my students reach their full potentials and achieve their goals. It is very heart-wrenching knowing that your work shapes and contributes to the future of the learners. I think my experience would be enough to handle different learners. If you enroll in my class, I will assure you that you will learn while having fun. So what are you waiting for, book a lesson with me now. I Graduated from Philippine Normal University where I took up Bachelor of Science in Mathematics for Teachers. I also had 39 units in masteral at the same school but unfortunately, I was not able to finish it because of giving birth to my first born. I was also qualified to took up special courses like the Spanish class and I finish until level 7. After my graduation, I already took Licensure Examination for Teachers (LET) and fortunately, I was able to pass it. My first experience in teaching was in private school wherein I taught Algebra and Geometry. My stay there was so remarkable because it helped me a lot in terms classroom management, teaching styles, and the experience I needed to be a better teacher in the Future. Currently, I am a Junior High School Math Teacher and Mathematics Trainer in a Public School. I started being the mathematics trainer just last year, and fortunately with the help and guidance of our Lord we ranked 1st in our division area sectoral. I considered it as one of my big accomplishments because, being a trainer is not that easy. You need to exert extra effort and time to feed the necessary knowledge that your students needed. You need to research different questions that will help your students to be prepared in the contest. It is very heart-wrenching knowing that you are part of the success of your students and your school. I am also a trainer of tower of Hanoi. A contest that helps your student to think critically. I also handled Open High School Students in our school, where majority of my students were out of school youth due to family problem, early pregnancy, financially unstable and working students. With my experience in handling them for 6 years, I must say, I learned to be more open-minded and considerate with my students. To give extra effort to help them finish their studies. To let them feel that they are not alone, and they have a support system not just a teacher. Being a teacher, you need not only to be intellectually literate but also emotionally literate. You need to be ready all the time and, in every situation.

All you need to know about IGCSE tuition

What is the IGCSE?

The IGCSE (which stands for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is taken by students aged 14-16 (Year 10 and 11) to prepare them for further pre-university level study, such as A-levels.

It offers the same level of education as a traditional GCSE but does not have a UK-centric curriculum. For example, Shakespeare is a compulsory part of GCSE English Literature but not the IGCSE.

Children in state schools usually take GCSEs whilst those in private and international schools are more likely to take IGCSEs. Universities do not distinguish between the two when it comes to entry requirements. The exams are assessed externally.

What is the focus of the IGCSE?

The IGCSE focuses on developing understanding, skill, and knowledge in the following areas:

  • Subject content

  • The application of knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations

  • Intellectual enquiry

  • Flexibility and responsiveness to change

  • Working and communicating in English

  • Influencing outcomes

  • Cultural awareness

What subjects are studied?

IGCSEs are available in a broad range of subjects but curriculums vary considerably depending on the school.

Students typically take seven to nine subjects, which must include the core subjects of English, mathematics and science (biology, chemistry, physics).

Optional subjects include humanities (history, geography), modern languages, the creative arts (art, music), STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and sports.

Preparing for the IGCSEs

Historically, the GCSE had a greater amount of coursework in the syllabus compared to the IGCSE. This has changed in recent years and both qualifications are based mainly on the end-of-course exams.

The exams test theoretical knowledge, practical skills, problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills – which are essential for further education as well as future careers.

Revision is key to retaining information and reinforcing understanding and should be done regularly rather than cramming all the content at the last minute.

Practicing past papers and taking mock exams will allow you to become familiar with the exam structure, improve your time management skills and discover any areas of weakness.

How can a tutor help with preparing for the IGCSEs?

A tutor can help at any stage of the process, whether it is over the two years of study or in the run-up to the exams.

GoStudent IGCSE tutors have experience in the specific subjects covered in the curriculum as well as a proven track record of success. They offer personalised lessons that can target problematic areas and can help create realistic and achievable study schedules that balance your time across the different subjects.

ICGSE tutors can also teach you effective study techniques. These will help you not only with the exams but in your future academic career.

If you are struggling with either the coursework or exam preparation, don’t delay seeking help. Feeling prepared and confident for your exams allows you to have a clear and focused mind - and achieve to your full potential.

If they are taking iGCSE tuition but then need support with a different level, we can help them get that support with a tutor specialised in that level.

How can your child benefit from iGCSE tuition?

The main reason that parents often start to look for a iGCSE tutor is to improve their child’s academic performance. It’s needless to say that tutoring will prepare your child for important exams and tests and address specific problem areas that they might have in a particular subject. Your child’s grades and understanding of the subject will improve when working with a tutor but there are also other benefits you might consider when deciding whether to opt for private iGCSE tutoring. Tutoring encourages self-directed learning. This means that your child will learn to take the initiative in their schoolwork, with the result that they will feel less overwhelmed or frustrated with school and more in control of their own learning. They will also learn study skills that will help them in life when it comes to university and beyond. Whether it’s learning to overcome obstacles in their studies, losing the fear of asking questions or even working on their social skills.
