Hi, Im Lia! I'm a second year psychology student at Loughborough University. Studying psychology, I am constantly learning about people and the way that our brains work both individually and together. This includes studying the most effective ways to learn and recall information. My AS and A-Levels consisted of 3 core subjects, so I have an array of expertise when it comes to exam technique. With my goal of becoming a secondary teacher, I am really looking forward to bringing my passion and enthusiasm to the virtual classroom. I already have a few years experience tutoring secondary students, so have discovered firsthand the best ways to engage and assist my students in whatever way they need. I am a strong believer in the importance of practicing exam questions and their structure when it comes to revision. Therefore within my sessions, I will discuss areas and topics that you may be finding more difficult, find a new way to explain it to you, and finally complete as many past paper questions surrounding the topic, to ensure that you receive all the marks, and therefore the grades that you deserve. I'm excited to hear from you! I studied an AS in Maths (Grade A), and essential core subjects at A-level: English Literature and Language (Grade A*), Psychology (Grade A*) and Biology (Grade A). I am currently studying BSc Psychology at Loughborough University, and once having graduated next year, am look to further my teaching career by completing a secondary PGCE in Science with Biology at University of Cambridge.

I am currently a first year university student, studying PPE (politics, philosophy and economics) at the university of York. I successfully achieved straight As and A*s (7,8,9s) at GCSE, which led me to pick history, biology and Spanish at A level. I am particularly unique when it comes to Spanish teaching as I am a native speaker, being half Spanish, and having spoken the language from as little as I can remember. I sat my GCSE’s and A levels at Mayfield school, a boarding school for girls in East Sussex. After my a levels, I had successfully gotten into my firm and my insurance choice universities ( the university of Nottingham an the university of York). Both universities being Russel group, I ended up deciding to attend the university of York, here I currently am a first year studying PPE (BA)(politics, philosophy an economics).

Hi! My son started physics with his tutor Conor a month ago. I can tell you that I am happy about this decision as Alex, my son, has already better scores at physics tests at school. Conor is very helpful even outside tuition session and very patient. I noticed that if my son doesn’t understand something or is tired, Conor finds another way to make him understand giving him logical examples. When my son is happy, I am happy so Thank You Conor for being my son tutor and Thank you Alex Brown for choosing Conor for my Alex. I wish you Merry Christmas and a lot of snow!

The tutor has given feedback promptly. Also, she has been maintaining communication with the tutee on daily/weekly basis. The concerns and suggestion raised by me as a parent were acknowledged and promised to tailor the next sessions accordingly. Although the tutor is pursuing university studies, the time with tutee has been managed really well. I wish the same tutor to support my GCSE son for this year (2023-24).

My daughter made all the arrangements and interacted with the tutors then I got notifications of dates and times of sessions. My daughter was able to message the tutors before a session to say which topics she'd like covered in the upcoming session. Very useful.

My son grades in French, a core subject has improved since Oliver has started tutoring him. He is comfortable with his tutor and is even practising the language on his own. He sees his tutor as a mentor, is motivated to learn and speak French. Quote from my son " I can't wait to be able to speak French fluently!".

What is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme?
The IB Diploma is a two-year educational programme for students aged 16 to 19. It encourages curiosity about the world and the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as providing an internationally accepted qualification for entry into higher education.
It aims not only to develop students’ knowledge in a range of subjects and disciplines, but helps them become confident, self-motivated and resilient global citizens.
The programme is composed of six academic subject groups along with the Diploma Programme (DP) Core. The DP Core requires students to reflect on the nature of knowledge in a course called Theory of Knowledge (ToK), participate in independent research to produce an Extended Essay (EE), and engage in extracurricular activities related to Creativity, Action and Service (CAS).
What subjects are covered in the IB Diploma Programme?
Subjects are offered at a Standard and Higher Level. Students must pass at least three subjects at Higher Level and a total of six from the following list:
Each subject is scored from 1-7, and up to 3 additional points may be awarded for the ToK essay and the EE. A minimum of 24 points is required to pass, with 45 points the maximum that can be achieved. The CAS does not count towards the final score but must be completed to earn the diploma.
In general, a score of 30 points or higher is considered enough to gain admission to many universities, with more selective universities requiring a score of 40 or higher.
How to get good results in the IB Diploma Programme
The IB Diploma is a rigorous academic programme which many students find challenging, which can lead to overwhelm, a loss of motivation and procrastination.
It’s vital to start early when it comes to preparing for the exams. Revising should ideally be done in short amounts daily and balanced across multiple subjects. Completing past papers will familiarise you with the types of questions asked and improve your exam technique.
Using an IB tutor is a sure path to success as they can teach effective learning strategies, help you gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter, and work with you to develop a realistic and achievable study schedule that will keep you on track throughout the year.
GoStudent has a range of IB tutors that have direct experience in teaching the curriculum and understand the assessment methods. They have a special focus on the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay and the Extended Essay, teaching the necessary skills and strategies to succeed in both as well as help across different subjects within the level.
