Hi! My name is Lucia Valero and I am a third year Chemical Engineering student at the University of Aberdeen. I have taught Maths from primary to S4 level for a year. I try to keep lessons light and as engaging by possible, always working through examples and really encourage students to think independently as they are often capable of more than they realize. (I am not interested in teaching Spanish at the moment) Spanish is my first language, and I am familiar with the process of learning a second language so I am confident in teaching it. I find that usually reading and conversation are the best ways to learn a language and achieve fluidity but I can adapt to each student's needs. I sat Scottish exams (SQAs) and currently attend the University of Aberdeen for Chemical Engineering. I speak fully fluent English, Spanish and some French. I have around 2 years of tutoring experience I am interested in teaching English as a foreign language not as a subject. I have received French and English tutoring throughout most of my childhood and have given some Spanish tutoring previously, so I have some experience in the area.

GCSE: At GCSE, I am available to tutor Maths, Chemistry, and, Biology. At GCSE, I achieved 9 A* in; Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies, Digital technology, English, and, Religious Education. I achieved an A in GCSE German. At A level, I achieved an A* in Maths, Chemistry, and, Biology. Exam Board: I completed all my GCSEs and A levels under the Northern Ireland CCEA exam board (NICCEA i.e. Northern Ireland Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment). Experience with: I have experience of the NICCEA and AQE system; at GCSE and A level, and, 11+ level respectively. I have experience tutoring a student for the 11+ exam, who completed the exam and got into his first choice (grammar) school. I have also experience working as a classroom assistant for ages 5-7, teaching them basic maths and money skills; helping them to really grasp the basics. For certain age groups, I will be using past paper questions to help build technique in answering common questions and, therefore, a create a strong foundation for more difficult questions. However, it is imperative topics are understood before they are tested so more fundamental teaching will always be put in place before questions. Apart from GCSEs and A levels, I don’t have any other ‘main’ qualifications but I’ve achieved Gold in a UKMT Maths Challenge and also completed the Chemistry Olympiad at A level. I also completed optional Scholarship exams at Trinity College Dublin, and am now a funded Medical Scholar for the rest of my degree. I have also completed the medical entrance exams, achieving 3180 99th percentile in UCAT, and 189 95% percentile in HPAT. I’m an enthusiastic individual, that is keen on teaching children, of all ages, up until A-level. I have many different hobbies, such as playing sports and cooking different recipes, which is something I carry out in my free time. I’m also multilingual, as I can speak both Bengali and Urdu fluently.
