Hi, my name is Ruby. I’m currently a third year at Durham University, where I am studying Theology. I provide one-to-one tutoring in GCSE and A-Level Biology and History, and have two years of tutoring experience. Additionally, I have experience with mature students, if you are an adult looking to achieve GCSE or A-Level qualifications. I am pleased to say that all of my students have passed, achieving Grades 4/5 (C) and above in the academic years 2023-24 and 2024-25! I have developed a flexible teaching style that can cater to your/your child’s learning needs. I focus my teaching around two points: reinforcing content and refining exam technique. I will usually dedicate half of every lesson to each, depending on the student’s needs. Included in the price of a lesson are custom-made revision resources, as well as any marking outside of lesson time. I am also happy to read over previous mock exam papers to establish any gaps in their knowledge. I also have experience working at an international summer school, where I interacted with children of many different nationalities, with varying levels of English. Not all the children were confident when speaking English, and I learned to adapt to their levels of understanding when communicating with them. I am a certified TESOL teacher who studied English at college, and law and business studies at university. I spent three years teaching English in Tokyo, Japan - first for a language school and then in business. Since returning to the UK, I have taught for many different companies and also as a private home tutor. I'm used to teaching adults and children of all ages and am accustomed to working towards examinations. As a tutor, it's important that my student feels comfortable and has confidence in my abilities to help them progress so I have a relaxed manner when teaching but with an eye on reaching targets. So we will look at the areas where you need help, look at your existing approach to learning and work out strategies to get you where you need to be. I am a Master’s student studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham. Throughout my studies, I have seen how hard learning can be. As a student my self I understand how daunting exams and revision can get and through my journey of improvement through trial and error I have understood that each student requires a different approach to learning and every student has the potential to achieve the top grades. I have recently completed my a levels in Chemistry Biology and Psychology in addition to an epq on the topic of antibiotic substitutes. I am quite keen about education and therefore want to teach other people and help them get to their full potential!!! Since I am planning to be a biology, GCSE Science and psychology tutor at both gcse and A levels, I believe it is relevant to mention that at GCSE I did triple science, achieving all 9s and also psychology, achieving an 8.
