I am basically a B.Sc.-qualified technical person who became a language teacher while working as a computer programmer/systems analyst in Switzerland. I teach regularly online & face-to-face and the languages taught are English, French, German & elementary Arabic. I live near Durham, UK, and have a very wide range of student types, ranging from young learners under 10 to mature business people learning a language for their retirement. After O/A-levels and completing an Ordinary National Diploma in Engineering, I chose to do a Computer Science degree at N. Staffordshire Polytechnic because it was possible to study French intensively alongside. This meant that the 3rd (industrial) year had to be spent in a French-speaking country and in my case that was Switzerland, where I spent a year at CERN in Geneva. To become an English language teacher I obtained the CTEFLA in Geneva in 1995 and went on to study for the DELTA.
