My Educational Journey & Professional Foundation My academic and professional foundation in the UK began at the University of York, where I earned my first MA in Education. Studying at one of the UK’s leading centers for pedagogical research provided me with a deep understanding of learning psychology and curriculum design. It was during my time at York that I officially began my career in mathematics instruction. I worked extensively as a GCSE Mathematics tutor, delivering both online and face-to-face sessions to local students. This hands-on experience was very helpful and meaningfull; it allowed me to apply educational theories directly to the classroom, helping students navigate the complexities of the AQA and Edexcel syllabi while building their confidence from the ground up. Following my success at York, I moved on to the University of Sheffield to pursue a second MA in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages). While this might seem like a shift in focus, it was actually a strategic move to enhance my math teaching. At Sheffield, I specialized in applied linguistics and communicative strategies. This advanced training gave me the unique ability to "decode" the language of mathematics. I realized that many students struggle with GCSE Maths not because of the numbers, but because of the complex wording of the questions. Hello, I'm Jonathon, I'm an experienced tutor and teacher of Science (and occasionally P.E) with a passion to ensure that all students are able to reach their full potential. I qualified as a teacher in 2021 and I have been teaching and tutoring in Science (and P.E) since then and I have experience with the four major exam boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, WJEC) and at both the foundation & higher tiers for combined and separate science. Outside of teaching/tutoring, I spend most of my time travelling or involved with sport. My academic background includes a PGCE in Secondary Education (specialising in Science), a BSc (Hons) degree in Applied Sport and Health Science as well as an FdSc degree in Sports Science and Injury Management. These are all in addition to A levels and GCSE’s in Science. My experience is a total of over 5 years teaching experience and 4 years experience tutoring in the subject of Science. Hi I'm Charlie. I'm a Master's graduate in Physics and currently undertaking a PhD in Astrophysics while working as a postgraduate teaching assistant. I know through experience how difficult physics and maths can be and am in a position to help students by breaking topics down into manageable components. In summer 2025 I graduated with a first class master's degree in physics with astrophysics and cosmology. I began a PhD in astrophysics in October 2025 and have been working as a teaching assistant since then for varied courses in physics from master's level computer labs to first-year mathematics.
