Hello! I’m Harshini Mahesh Kumar—a passionate educator with a strong academic foundation in Molecular Biotechnology and a rich background in STEM teaching and tutoring. I bring together the precision of science and the art of education to create a meaningful and results-driven learning experience for every student I work with. With years of experience tutoring Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology at both GCSE and A-Level, I specialize in designing personalized learning strategies that cater to each student’s unique strengths, challenges, and goals. My approach is student-centered and results-focused—fostering not just subject mastery, but also long-term academic confidence. My scientific training adds depth to my teaching, allowing me to highlight real-world applications and encourage analytical thinking. Whether we’re exploring the laws of motion or the intricacies of the cell, I aim to bring each topic to life in a way that is accessible, engaging, and intellectually stimulating. What drives me most is the belief that every student has untapped potential. I strive to create a supportive, motivating, and inspiring environment where learners feel empowered to ask questions, take risks, and truly grow. I continuously seek out innovative teaching tools and methods to keep lessons dynamic and impactful. If you’re looking for a dedicated, knowledgeable, and inspiring tutor to help you or your child excel in STEM subjects, I’d be delighted to support that journey. Let’s make learning a truly empowering experience! I hold a Master of Science (MSc) in Molecular Biotechnology from the University of Hertfordshire (2021–2022), where I developed an in-depth understanding of molecular biology, genetics, cell biology, and protein science. My academic journey was complemented by extensive hands-on experience in research methods, laboratory techniques, and bioinformatics. I also gained exposure to cutting-edge technologies, including recombinant DNA technology, next-generation sequencing, and genomics—preparing me to contribute meaningfully to the rapidly evolving field of biotechnology. Prior to my master’s, I earned a Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Biotechnology from Sri Shakthi Institute of Engineering & Technology, graduating in 2021. This program laid a strong foundation in biotechnological principles, computational tools, and analytical techniques. Through research projects and practical labs, I cultivated problem-solving skills and a passion for innovation in life sciences. Currently, I serve as a freelance Scientific Assistant at Protlab GPL Limited, where I assist in research, data collection, analysis, and report writing under the guidance of senior scientists. Alongside this, I actively tutor students in Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and English through platforms like Tutor Cambridge and freelance services. I specialize in personalized, interactive online lessons that adapt to each learner’s needs and pace. Beyond the sciences, I’ve also contributed in marketing and consultancy roles at Global Trade Fairs, where I led strategic campaigns, promoted global exhibitions, and provided digital marketing solutions to international clients. My journey has also included enriching internships in research, lab management, and clinical settings. Projects such as my study on chick embryo development and work on phytoremediation reflect my ability to conduct independent research and think critically. Passionate about both science and education, I continue to grow as a researcher, mentor, and educator—committed to making a lasting impact through innovation and learning.

Jin exceeded our expectations! We are new to Go Student so we didn't know what it would be like. Our kids chose Jin based on his profile and he has been a great math tutor for the last month. He really listens & understands where where each of our kids is at. He communicates well & checks for understanding. He shares information well & is flexible when needed. We're definitely sticking with it. Well worth our money! Thanks Jin!

“Shahana’s dedication to my daughter’s learning is truly commendable. Not only has she mastered her times tables, but her reading and spelling abilities have soared under Shahana’s guidance. The weekly homework ensures consistent practice, reinforcing what she learns during lessons. What’s particularly impressive is the ease and convenience of rescheduling lessons when needed, making the entire learning experience stress-free for both my daughter and me. Grateful for Shahana’s positive impact on my child’s education!”

What is the IGCSE?
The IGCSE (which stands for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education) is taken by students aged 14-16 (Year 10 and 11) to prepare them for further pre-university level study, such as A-levels.
It offers the same level of education as a traditional GCSE but does not have a UK-centric curriculum. For example, Shakespeare is a compulsory part of GCSE English Literature but not the IGCSE.
Children in state schools usually take GCSEs whilst those in private and international schools are more likely to take IGCSEs. Universities do not distinguish between the two when it comes to entry requirements. The exams are assessed externally.
What is the focus of the IGCSE?
The IGCSE focuses on developing understanding, skill, and knowledge in the following areas:
Subject content
The application of knowledge and understanding to new as well as familiar situations
Intellectual enquiry
Flexibility and responsiveness to change
Working and communicating in English
Influencing outcomes
Cultural awareness
What subjects are studied?
IGCSEs are available in a broad range of subjects but curriculums vary considerably depending on the school.
Students typically take seven to nine subjects, which must include the core subjects of English, mathematics and science (biology, chemistry, physics).
Optional subjects include humanities (history, geography), modern languages, the creative arts (art, music), STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and sports.
Preparing for the IGCSEs
Historically, the GCSE had a greater amount of coursework in the syllabus compared to the IGCSE. This has changed in recent years and both qualifications are based mainly on the end-of-course exams.
The exams test theoretical knowledge, practical skills, problem-solving abilities and critical thinking skills – which are essential for further education as well as future careers.
Revision is key to retaining information and reinforcing understanding and should be done regularly rather than cramming all the content at the last minute.
Practicing past papers and taking mock exams will allow you to become familiar with the exam structure, improve your time management skills and discover any areas of weakness.
How can a tutor help with preparing for the IGCSEs?
A tutor can help at any stage of the process, whether it is over the two years of study or in the run-up to the exams.
GoStudent IGCSE tutors have experience in the specific subjects covered in the curriculum as well as a proven track record of success. They offer personalised lessons that can target problematic areas and can help create realistic and achievable study schedules that balance your time across the different subjects.
ICGSE tutors can also teach you effective study techniques. These will help you not only with the exams but in your future academic career.
If you are struggling with either the coursework or exam preparation, don’t delay seeking help. Feeling prepared and confident for your exams allows you to have a clear and focused mind - and achieve to your full potential.
Is private iGCSE tuition affordable?
Your child can get iGCSE tuition for as low as £21.99 per session. The price of each private tuition session depends on how regularly and for how long your child takes tuition with us. Book a free trial session with us and you can find out how affordable private tuition with GoStudent can be for you.
How many other levels does GoStudent offer other than iGCSE tuition?
As well as private iGCSE tuition, GoStudent can help your child with 11 other levels. Pick from many subjects including Spanish, Economics, French. And with GoStudent your child isn't tied into one level. If they are taking iGCSE tuition but then need support with a different level, we can help them get that support with a tutor specialised in that level.
How can your child benefit from iGCSE tuition?
The main reason that parents often start to look for a iGCSE tutor is to improve their child’s academic performance. It’s needless to say that tutoring will prepare your child for important exams and tests and address specific problem areas that they might have in a particular subject. Your child’s grades and understanding of the subject will improve when working with a tutor but there are also other benefits you might consider when deciding whether to opt for private iGCSE tutoring. Tutoring encourages self-directed learning. This means that your child will learn to take the initiative in their schoolwork, with the result that they will feel less overwhelmed or frustrated with school and more in control of their own learning. They will also learn study skills that will help them in life when it comes to university and beyond. Whether it’s learning to overcome obstacles in their studies, losing the fear of asking questions or even working on their social skills. Sign up for a free trial lesson to discover the benefits of tutoring for yourself.
Can my child take private iGCSE tuition online?
With GoStudent your child can get private tuition online from one of our iGCSE tutors. Online tuition is a great option for you and your child, meaning you don't have to take your child to a class or cover the cost of a tutor to come to your home. Why not see how private tuition can work for you and your child by booking a free trial lesson.
