Milo here - i'm a first year medical student and aspiring surgeon, with a passion for medical education. Outside the lecture hall, you’ll find me pushing limits in the gym or tackling challenging trails on my mountain bike, always chasing my next adventure. I’m a life long learner and crave knowledge - I feel a high degree of satisfaction passing on this knowledge throughout my time as a tutor, from breaking down complex theories into understandable chunks of information, to finally being able to answer that tricky exam question; I will be there to support you in your journey through the education system. My teaching style consists of ensuring fundamental topics are well understood - thus building on this foundation with direct application to exam board questions. I do not teach outside of the relevant specification. Once content is well understood, lessons with me will be almost entirely exam question based, working through past paper questions together or sharing thought processes - working with me will ensure you are ready for your GCSE and A-Level exams. Hello! My name is Emma, and I am a second-year Accounting and Finance student at Lancaster University. I achieved 9 GCSEs, ranging from 7-9, which allowed me to study Chemistry, Economics and Maths. I also gained an A* in my EPQ, which I completed in year 12, giving me crucial skills that I have carried forward to my degree. I have been tutoring for 8 months. During this time, I have helped prepare primary school students for their SATS and gained more confidence with maths in the classroom. I also prepared year 11 and 13 students for their GCSE and A levels by covering content they were unsure of and practising exam techniques. I previously gained experience mentoring GCSE students at my school. I am a student with dyslexia, so I understand the challenges students face in classroom settings. Anyone can be successful, which is why my sessions are student-led, so that they are catered towards each individual's learning style. If you are unsure of this throughout my school career, I have learnt different methods that work for me and would love to pass them on to others so that we can find a technique that works for you. I attended Rugby School, where I completed my GCSEs and A levels, and now I have gone on to study for a Bachelor's degree in Accounting and Finance at Lancaster University, where my ambition is to become an ACA Chartered Accountant. Having studied Chemistry, Economics and Maths at A level, I offer tutoring for students up to and including year 11 in Maths and Chemistry and then Economics up to and including year 13 students.

Hi, I'm Rafaela, a 19 year old university student who believes learning should be engaging and built on a genuine connection. I grew up in an international school abroad providing me with a diverse range of knowledge on different cultures as well as a broader perspective. At school I was head girl, providing me with leadership qualities as well as experience working with students from a wide range of year groups. When I’m not tutoring or studying, you'll probably find me at the gym with my friends, playing netball, reading a new book or baking something sweet. My hobbies not only bring me joy but they have taught me valuable lessons. For example, I have learnt both in and outside of school that practice does make perfect, and that nothing is impossible but instead sometimes a difficult journey to success. Through netball, I amused to working in a team to achieve an end goal, which is a crucial skill for tutoring to ensure beneficial lessons for both myself and my student. As a tutor, I understand everyone has their own unique way of learning and I love to be the person to help students find their way of learning and gain confidence in their academic ability. I want to be more than merely just a tutor for my students, I want to be someone they can trust, confide in, and see as a friend. I am excited to help students discover their own strengths and achieve their goals! I am currently studying at the University of Manchester, undergoing a undergraduate Bachelor of Arts degree in Politics and Portuguese. I am in my second year of a four year course, meaning i will graduate in 2028. Prior to this, i completed the International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma programme for my last two years of school, receiving 36 points overall, with a 6 in higher level English. I also received 10 GCSE's, 6 A's and 4 A*s in 2022, getting A*s in both English Language and English Literature. My experience with tutoring has only ever been specific to English. I have tutored privately for two separate families, for children ranging between 5 - 13 years old. I first started tutoring English in 2020 and have been on and off tutoring for 5 years. Other work i have completed before has also been children specific, babysitting and netball coaching meaning i have lots of experience coaching and working with a large range of age groups.

I have worked with young people previously, volunteering as a Young Leader and, more recently, a Unit Helper in Girlguiding. I was also a reading ‘Super-tutor’ in my school’s reading programme, designed to help Year 7 students boost their confidence and skill in reading, meaning I would step in to cover for any tutors who were absent when they planned to meet with their assigned tutee, and I oversaw the running of the programme as a whole. I really enjoy seeing students develop and become more confident in their own abilities as tutoring progresses, and would love the opportunity to work with you and help you to achieve success in your studies! The benefits of a tutor to prepare for the IB

What is the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme?

The IB Diploma is a two-year educational programme for students aged 16 to 19. It encourages curiosity about the world and the development of critical thinking and problem-solving skills as well as providing an internationally accepted qualification for entry into higher education.

It aims not only to develop students’ knowledge in a range of subjects and disciplines, but helps them become confident, self-motivated and resilient global citizens.

The programme is composed of six academic subject groups along with the Diploma Programme (DP) Core. The DP Core requires students to reflect on the nature of knowledge in a course called Theory of Knowledge (ToK), participate in independent research to produce an Extended Essay (EE), and engage in extracurricular activities related to Creativity, Action and Service (CAS).

What subjects are covered in the IB Diploma Programme?

Subjects are offered at a Standard and Higher Level. Students must pass at least three subjects at Higher Level and a total of six from the following list:

  • Group 1: Studies in Language and Literature
    • Group 2: Language Acquisition
    • Group 3: Individuals and Societies
    • Group 4: Sciences
    • Group 5: Mathematics
    • Group 6: The Arts

Each subject is scored from 1-7, and up to 3 additional points may be awarded for the ToK essay and the EE. A minimum of 24 points is required to pass, with 45 points the maximum that can be achieved. The CAS does not count towards the final score but must be completed to earn the diploma.

In general, a score of 30 points or higher is considered enough to gain admission to many universities, with more selective universities requiring a score of 40 or higher.

How to get good results in the IB Diploma Programme

The IB Diploma is a rigorous academic programme which many students find challenging, which can lead to overwhelm, a loss of motivation and procrastination.

It’s vital to start early when it comes to preparing for the exams. Revising should ideally be done in short amounts daily and balanced across multiple subjects. Completing past papers will familiarise you with the types of questions asked and improve your exam technique.

Using an IB tutor is a sure path to success as they can teach effective learning strategies, help you gain a deeper understanding of the subject matter, and work with you to develop a realistic and achievable study schedule that will keep you on track throughout the year.

GoStudent has a range of IB tutors that have direct experience in teaching the curriculum and understand the assessment methods. They have a special focus on the Theory of Knowledge (TOK) essay and the Extended Essay, teaching the necessary skills and strategies to succeed in both as well as help across different subjects within the level.
