Hi :) My name is Samee Chowdhury. I'm from London and currently a 5th year Medical student, and if there's one thing that medicine has taught me, it's how to break down complexity into something anyone can understand — and that's exactly what I bring to every tutoring session. I've been tutoring for several years across Primary, 13+, and GCSE level Maths, Science, and English, working with students from all ends of the spectrum; from high achievers pushing for top grades, to students with ADHD, autism, and other SEN needs. Every student is different, and I genuinely enjoy figuring out what clicks and what doesn't. My approach is straightforward: I'll be honest with you about where you are, realistic about what we can achieve together, and fully committed to squeezing the best out of your potential. No cookie-cutter lesson plans here. Every session is built around you, adapted in real time to what's working and what isn't. Outside of medicine and tutoring, football and sport are a huge part of who I am. That competitive drive, the will to improve, to push harder, to not settle is something I try to bring into my teaching. A little healthy competition and high expectations go a long way. I became a tutor for the same reason I'm becoming a Doctor; I genuinely want to help people get further than they thought they could. If you're willing to put the work in, I'll make sure it counts. I am currently studying medicine at university and wish to become a paediatric surgeon in the future. I obtained my GCSEs at Lister Community School achieving 9 A*-A and 2 B's. I attended Brampton Manor Academy for my A levels where I did Biology, Chemistry, Physics and AS level Mathematics. I am also familiar with the grammar school entry exams (11+) as I sat them myself as a child and have tutored kids for them in the past

My name is Hafsa and I am a Dental student at the University of Manchester. My friends describe me as hardworking, dedicated and focussed. Science and Maths has a huge importance in my life, a lot of it to do with my degree but also because of an interest I have in me. Having attained AAA in Biology, Chemistry and Maths in A-Levels, and A*A* and a 9 in GCSE, I have developed from an outstanding student to an incredible tutor. In high school my English teachers always applauded my excellent english analytical skills as I acheived an 8 in GCSE, and I am looking forward to sharing these tips with students of my own. From my own journey, there has been many instances where I have taught myself content because the way the teacher taught me I just didnt understand. This made me an independent learner and encouraged me to reach my highest potential - not to meantion all the amazing tips and tricks I discovered and am excited to pass on to my students too. I have a vast experience of teaching, from volunteering experiences to jobs in different settings with tutoring - which helped me fine tune my teaching skills and made me really adaptable to different teaching styles. As a young tutor, the age gap between me and my students will be relatively small and will allow me to understand them much better, as well as make the lessons more fun and engaging as I know how to meet their needs. How tutoring at Key Stage 1 can benefit your child

What is Key Stage 1?

Key Stage 1 (KS1) is the name given to Year 1 and Year 2 at primary schools, when pupils are aged between 5 and 7. It sets out which subjects must be taught as part of the national curriculum, which is followed by state schools.

Your child may be tested on what they have learned at the end of KS1. These assessments are known as SATs (which stands for ‘Standardised Assessment Tests’). They are not pass/fail tests but simply provide an indication of your child’s progress. It is not compulsory for schools to take the SATs in KS1.

What are the main subjects studied at Key Stage 1?

The KS1 curriculum is designed to introduce children to the core subjects they will learn throughout their school career.

The subjects are:

  • English
  • Maths
  • Science
  • Design and technology
  • History
  • Geography
  • Art and design
  • Music
  • Physical education (PE)
  • Computing

Religious Education (RE) is also taught, but parents can choose for their children to opt out of some or all the lessons. Schools usually also teach Personal, Social and Health Dducation (PSHE), citizenship and modern foreign languages.

How is Key Stage 1 assessed?

Children undertake a phonics screening check at the end of Year 1, which evaluates their reading and pronunciation skills.

Schools who do not take the SATs will use their own assessment systems to track the progress children in their school are making.

If your school takes the SATs, the subjects are:

  • English reading (comprehension)
  • English grammar, punctuation, and spelling
  • Mathematics (basic arithmetic)

The focus of Key Stage 1

KS1 is where a child begins to develop their skills and understanding in the key subjects taught in the curriculum.

Speaking, reading and writing are considered core skills as mastery of the English language is central to developing an understanding in all subjects.

In KS1 maths, children to begin to understand mathematical language, understand the fundamentals and begin to solve problems by applying this knowledge.

In addition, teaching children about healthy habits and different belief systems can help them become well-rounded individuals who understand the world around them.

How to choose a Key Stage 1 tutor

Children are all different and progress at different rates. Some will need extra support in building core skills or improving confidence, and others may need more of a challenge to keep them engaged. Either way, lessons need to be personalised to meet their individual needs.

It’s also important to choose a tutor with experience in the KS1 curriculum and who understands how important it is to make learning fun.

GoStudent’s tutors are highly qualified and offer an interactive and personalised learning experience. Our online sessions can be scheduled for a time that suits you, and you will receive regular updates on your child’s progress.

Tutoring will give your child a strong foundation in the key concepts will set them up to succeed in learning, not only at KS2 but throughout their school career.
