I have always been curious and love solving problems, which led me to study biochemistry at university before moving into software development. I enjoy challenges, whether it’s in science, coding, or everyday life, and I find it really rewarding to figure things out. During lockdown, I even taught myself how to solve a Rubik’s Cube, which was a fun way to test my patience and problem-solving skills. Beyond work, I love learning new things through reading and watching documentaries. Exploring different cultures is also something I’m really passionate about—I enjoy traveling, meeting new people, and experiencing different ways of life. I believe that learning is a lifelong journey, and I enjoy helping others grow and develop their own skills. With a curious mind and a love for challenges, I’m always excited to take on new opportunities and share my knowledge with others. I attended Sutton Coldfield Grammar School for Girls, where I completed my GCSEs and A-levels. After that, I pursued my passion for science by studying biochemistry at the University of Warwick. I dedicated myself to my studies and graduated with an upper second-class degree.

Subjects: ESL, Phonics Other language spoken: basic Spanish Hi! My name is Claire. I'm an experienced online English teacher from the UK. I teach English to students as a foreign language. I love meeting new students, getting to know them and supporting them on their journey to learning English. I particularly enjoy finding out students interests and bringing together some lesson material just for them. We can work on vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, listening, writing, reading or fluency. I am happy to suggest some areas or perhaps there are things that you would like to work on. I like to create a positive learning environment where reoccurring mistakes feed into future learning rather than requiring constant correction. My interest include gardening, travel and design but I love hearing from students about their interests in gaming, music and technology. Book a lesson with me now, I can't wait to meet you. At Central Saint Martins in London I completed my master's degree in Narrative Environments. It was such an fascinating area to study with lots of live design projects in and around London. I'm currently studying Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at the University of Leeds, building on my A-levels in Maths, Economics, and History. I’ve always had a passion for understanding how the world works—whether through economic systems, political structures, or philosophical thought. Outside of my academic life, I really enjoy teaching and helping others learn. I often spend time tutoring my 13-year-old brother and younger cousins, which has not only strengthened my communication skills but also deepened my own understanding of the subjects I love. I’m currently studying Philosophy, Politics, and Economics (PPE) at the University of Leeds, following my A-levels in Maths, Economics, and History at Nower Hill High School. My academic interests have always centered around understanding the systems that shape our society, and PPE has allowed me to explore that from multiple perspectives. Studying Economics and Maths has not only strengthened my analytical thinking for my PPE degree, but also enhanced my ability to break down complex ideas clearly when teaching others.

What is Key Stage 1?
Key Stage 1 (KS1) is the name given to Year 1 and Year 2 at primary schools, when pupils are aged between 5 and 7. It sets out which subjects must be taught as part of the national curriculum, which is followed by state schools.
Your child may be tested on what they have learned at the end of KS1. These assessments are known as SATs (which stands for ‘Standardised Assessment Tests’). They are not pass/fail tests but simply provide an indication of your child’s progress. It is not compulsory for schools to take the SATs in KS1.
What are the main subjects studied at Key Stage 1?
The KS1 curriculum is designed to introduce children to the core subjects they will learn throughout their school career.
The subjects are:
Religious Education (RE) is also taught, but parents can choose for their children to opt out of some or all the lessons. Schools usually also teach Personal, Social and Health Dducation (PSHE), citizenship and modern foreign languages.
How is Key Stage 1 assessed?
Children undertake a phonics screening check at the end of Year 1, which evaluates their reading and pronunciation skills.
Schools who do not take the SATs will use their own assessment systems to track the progress children in their school are making.
If your school takes the SATs, the subjects are:
The focus of Key Stage 1
KS1 is where a child begins to develop their skills and understanding in the key subjects taught in the curriculum.
Speaking, reading and writing are considered core skills as mastery of the English language is central to developing an understanding in all subjects.
In KS1 maths, children to begin to understand mathematical language, understand the fundamentals and begin to solve problems by applying this knowledge.
In addition, teaching children about healthy habits and different belief systems can help them become well-rounded individuals who understand the world around them.
How to choose a Key Stage 1 tutor
Children are all different and progress at different rates. Some will need extra support in building core skills or improving confidence, and others may need more of a challenge to keep them engaged. Either way, lessons need to be personalised to meet their individual needs.
It’s also important to choose a tutor with experience in the KS1 curriculum and who understands how important it is to make learning fun.
GoStudent’s tutors are highly qualified and offer an interactive and personalised learning experience. Our online sessions can be scheduled for a time that suits you, and you will receive regular updates on your child’s progress.
