My name's Uzair, and I'm an undergraduate student studying Chemistry and Molecular Physics at the University of Nottingham. Over my past three years at university, I've learned a lot, and figured it may prove useful to try to help others strive toward realising their best selves as far as academic growth is concerned. Speaking from personal experience, the learning process can feel incredibly daunting at times, but I'm hoping to make it more enjoyable for those who believe that's something they'd benefit from. At GCSE I achieved 5A*s, 3As, 2Bs and a C. My A*s included Maths (which I sat a year early), Physics and Chemistry - and I also got an A in Further Maths. At A-Level I achieved A*A*A - in Maths, Chemistry and Physics respectively. Enjoyed those a lot! At university, I've been studying Chemistry and Molecular Physics. Hello, my name is George Barnes! I am a highly motivated and dedicated teacher of Science, committed to helping students unlock their full potential. I am a qualified and experienced science teacher specialising in Biology, with a proven record of delivering results at KS3, GCSE and A-level. My motivation to pursue a career in education began in 2016 when I volunteered for two months in Accra, Ghana, teaching English and introducing organised sports in a secondary school. This experience reinforced my belief in the transformative power of education and ultimately inspired me to become a qualified teacher. Following this, throughout my time as a Student at the University of Bristol, I worked as a member of the university student inclusion team as a Peer Assisted Study Leader; this role involved supporting classes of 20 first year students at the University and helping them to learn more effectively through planned activities and discussions, ultimately helping them to feel more prepared for their upcoming examinations. My passion for Biology and conservation studies has heightened my awareness of the crucial need to protect our environment. Whilst at University, this conviction prompted me to extend my exploration beyond the classroom curriculum and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to volunteer for one month at a Sea Turtle Conservation centre in Sri Lanka. This experience not only allowed me to immerse myself in a different culture but also enabled me to share my growing knowledge of conservation with local communities and work along side and learn from local experts. Additionally, my dedication to Biology led me to participate in a research project in the rain forests of Costa Rica, conducted in collaboration with the University of Bristol. This trip provided me the opportunity to design and defend a research project and contribute to ongoing research at the University. Again, here I was fortunate to see first hand the impacts of a changing world on the environment in this part of the world and learn from other leading Scientists. After graduating from the University of Bristol with a BSc in Biological Sciences, I then began working towards achieving qualified teacher status and working as a teacher of Science at a secondary school in 2020. I achieved my Post Graduate Certificate in Education from the University of Buckinghamshire and I am experienced in teaching pupils of all ages from Year 7 through to Year 13. In 2024, I left my teaching post in order to relocate to support my partners work goals. In doing so, I have also changed my full time profession and I now have experience as a production manager and head of production in the events industry, managing international event logistics and leading team operations. However, I am still deeply passionate about science and teaching; I find helping students achieve their goals to be immensely rewarding. As a secondary school pupil myself I achieved excellent results, obtaining 12 GCSES all graded A or A*, including Maths & English, with A*'s in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. At A-level I then went on to study Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, Religious Education and also achieved an AS level qualification in Critical thinking. Following this, I attended the University of Bristol, a Russel Group university which is renowned for its world-leading research and academic excellence. Here, I achieved my undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences. Following this, I began working towards achieving qualified teacher status and took my first post as a teacher of Science at a secondary school in 2020. I attended the university of Buckingham and completed my Post Graduate Certificate in Education with a focus on Science in order to become a qualified teacher. Through my university studies, I have not only gained expert science subject knowledge but I also have an excellent understanding of the latest teaching methods to help facilitate learning and, ultimately, help pupils achieve their goals. Further to this I also have other experience in coaching and mentoring roles. In 2016, I volunteered for 6 weeks in a primary school in Accra, Ghana. My primary role was teaching English to students, but given that I have achieved a Level 3 Diploma in Personal Training and level 1 qualified rugby coach, I also helped to introduce organised sport in the school and also coached local men's rugby team, the Dansoman Hurricanes.

What is Key Stage 3?
Key Stage 3 (KS3) covers the three years of school known as Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9, when students are between 11 and 14 years of age.
It follows the national curriculum and prepares children for more advanced learning at KS4/GCSE level.
What subjects are covered in Key Stage 3?
The compulsory subjects at Key Stage 3 are:
Additional subjects include Religious Education (RE) and Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE), which includes sex education. Parents can request that their children opt out of sex education lessons and either parts of RE or all the lessons.
The focus of Key Stage 3
KS3 forms a bridge between primary school and GCSE study. It deepens knowledge and understanding in the different subjects and focuses on developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The curriculum is designed to be broad so that students can explore their interests and abilities in a wide range of subjects. This is essential when it comes to deciding which subjects to pursue at GCSE level – a crucial decision which influences future academic and career paths.
How is KS3 assessed?
Learning is assessed in two ways: how well students are learning and remembering the curriculum and whether they are understanding what they have learned.
There are no national or external assessments at Key Stage 3. Instead, teachers carry out ongoing assessments for each pupil in each of the year groups.
How to choose a KS3 tutor
Whether your child is struggling with making the transition from primary to secondary school or having difficulties with one or more subjects in any of the years, a KS3 tutor can help them close any gaps in their understanding while helping to build confidence and motivation.
Tutoring can also help students needing an extra boost before entering the Key Stage 4 GCSE years.
It’s essential the tutor is a subject specialist and experienced in adaptive learning, which prioritises personalised learning tailored to the individual’s needs and understanding. This approach allows students to work at their own pace and truly master any problem areas before moving on.
GoStudent has a range of qualified and experienced tutors in all subjects covered in the KS3 curriculum. They can suggest effective study techniques and deepen understanding while helping create a study plan that will keep learning on track.
With the help of a tutor, your child can reach their full potential and develop love of learning that will carry them through the rest of their school years and beyond.
How much does private KS3 tuition cost?
Prices for private KS3 tuition can be as low as £21.99. The cost of each individual lesson will depend on how many lessons your child takes per week and how long they would like tuition for. Book a free trial session to see how affordable private KS3 tutoring can be with GoStudent.
