I have finished my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics at Exeter University. In my spare time I like to help pupils with their studies, spend my time at a gym class or go for a walk. I also love to read, especially horror books, or play on my Nintendo switch. My favourite part of maths is pure, such as Algebra and trigonometry, but I love all maths! I did Maths, Further Maths and Physics at A-level, achieving an A* in maths at A-level and a 9 at GCSE. I finished my degree in Mathematics at the University of Exeter in 2023 with a first class mark. I have over 900 hours of experience with tutoring maths to a range of ages from 4-21 both online and in person.

Hi! I'm Joshua, Physics graduate, with degrees from Leicester and UCL. I'm passionate about making maths and physics accessible and exciting. I've been tutoring GCSE and A-Level students for several years, and what I love most is seeing that "aha!" moment when a challenging concept finally clicks. I remember struggling with certain topics myself du I graduated with First Class Honours in Physics from the University of Leicester, consistently scoring 80-90+% and winning the Departmental Prize for academic excellence. I recently completed my MSc in Risk and Disaster Science at UCL with distinction. My professional experience includes working with Planet Labs on satellite climate analysis, collaborating with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction on heat wave research, and presenting findings at prestigious conferences including the Royal Meteorological Society and Royal Aeronautical Society. I'm also a committee member at the Institute of Physics Environmental Physics Group. This real-world experience means I can show you why what you're learning actually matters, from satellite navigation to climate science applications.

What is Key Stage 3?
Key Stage 3 (KS3) covers the three years of school known as Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9, when students are between 11 and 14 years of age.
It follows the national curriculum and prepares children for more advanced learning at KS4/GCSE level.
What subjects are covered in Key Stage 3?
The compulsory subjects at Key Stage 3 are:
Additional subjects include Religious Education (RE) and Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE), which includes sex education. Parents can request that their children opt out of sex education lessons and either parts of RE or all the lessons.
The focus of Key Stage 3
KS3 forms a bridge between primary school and GCSE study. It deepens knowledge and understanding in the different subjects and focuses on developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
The curriculum is designed to be broad so that students can explore their interests and abilities in a wide range of subjects. This is essential when it comes to deciding which subjects to pursue at GCSE level – a crucial decision which influences future academic and career paths.
How is KS3 assessed?
Learning is assessed in two ways: how well students are learning and remembering the curriculum and whether they are understanding what they have learned.
There are no national or external assessments at Key Stage 3. Instead, teachers carry out ongoing assessments for each pupil in each of the year groups.
How to choose a KS3 tutor
Whether your child is struggling with making the transition from primary to secondary school or having difficulties with one or more subjects in any of the years, a KS3 tutor can help them close any gaps in their understanding while helping to build confidence and motivation.
Tutoring can also help students needing an extra boost before entering the Key Stage 4 GCSE years.
It’s essential the tutor is a subject specialist and experienced in adaptive learning, which prioritises personalised learning tailored to the individual’s needs and understanding. This approach allows students to work at their own pace and truly master any problem areas before moving on.
GoStudent has a range of qualified and experienced tutors in all subjects covered in the KS3 curriculum. They can suggest effective study techniques and deepen understanding while helping create a study plan that will keep learning on track.
With the help of a tutor, your child can reach their full potential and develop love of learning that will carry them through the rest of their school years and beyond.
