Hi there! My name is Kevin and I am an English and Irish teacher who recently moved to London to pursue an MA in Theatre Directing. I have been teaching several students both subjects over the past 2 years to great success. I have experience teaching English and Irish to all levels, History to GCSE standard and Performing Arts up to third level. I love seeing students find a passion for a subject they have written off as being too difficult or obscure. I am approachable, friendly and love the subjects I teach. I usually get students to teach the subjects to me to see if they truly understand what we have covered. I am also a big nerd with a love for all things fantasy, literature and animation! I have a 2.1 Masters in Education and currently on a 1.1 average on MA in Theatre Directing. I also have a BA in English and Irish with Performing Arts Studies. I also have a grade 8 RIAM qualification in Piano and am extremely passionate about music.

I'm a very relaxed person and am happy to adjust my teaching to the way each student works best. In my spare time I enjoy physical hands on hobbies, like baking, playing the keyboard, cross-stitch and dance. What I teach: Lower Level: Science, Geography and History GCSE: Biology, Geography and History A-Level (IB): Biology & History Exam Board experience: - Edexcel - AQA - OCR I have A levels in Biology(B), Tudor History(B)and Geology(A), and I will be attending The university of Leeds in September for Environmental Sciences. I am on the younger side, so I'm very familiar with the current expectations on students taking GCSE's and A levels, as well as the resources they have available. Something I think is essential to being able to connect with and teach the current curriculum to students.

Medicine is a rapidly changing field which requires an acknowledgment of life-long learning. During my studies of GCSE and A levels for chemistry and biology , my competence for scientific thinking has improved and has tied in with my ambitions and motivations to be a Doctor. This has broadened my method of approach to learning and has allowed me to use multiple ways in different situations to solidify my knowledge and understanding. This has proved extremely effective as it has enabled me to secure a place in a Russel group Medical School. One of these ways was realising that one of the best methods to test and improve my learning was to embrace teaching as a form of revision including teaching my peers various parts of the specification. This enhanced my appreciation for teaching and gave me the courage to become a tutor. Each individual is different, so in order to ensure the students I tutor can achieve their best, it is important for me to implement multiple methods of teaching as well as ways of revising. This will provide the students with a more personal way of teaching compared to something they may receive at school which may not be as tailored to their way of thinking and learning. Some methods includes mini-quizzing, simplified diagrams, question and process walkthroughs, and a balance of small visual, verbal , and audible cues which can make a huge difference to learning. Learning needs to be active and intuitive, so a variety of ways to learn is imperative. Maths and Science prevalently were my favourite subjects in school to learn as they had consistent logic which when understood was very rewarding. However despite enjoying the subjects, they can be equally as frustrating and require persistence. Appreciating the challenges and conceptual difficulties especially in Science and maths, helped developed my appreciation for different ways of effectively learning being required which helped me achieve all 8's and 9's in science and maths at GCSE and A's and A* at A level. Ultimately I believe being able to personally implement a range of methods to improve my own results will translate very well in my teachings to help students to also improve.

I took up GoStudent for my son as was thrown into learning Irish after we moved at the age of 11. He was so upset at not understanding what was going on in class, he had missed all the basics, and his class was so far ahead of him that he used to come home in tears. The setup was easy, the tutor is extremely nice and within 4 months I have seen an incredibly marked improvement, not only in his work but also his confidence in tackling it. He now can complete his homework on his own which is important as I don't speak any Gaelic myself. I think online tutoring is also extremely time efficient, not only for me but for the tutors who dont have to factor travel into their prices or time. GoStudent isnt just value for money.... it it in fact... priceless!
