Oz Ercolino
Hi, my name is Oz. I am a third year university student and I enjoy teaching people about maths and physics. I am kind, empathetic, and patient, always striving to make my students feel comfortable and engaged in the subject. I know that maths is often perceived as a boring subject, which is why I make an effort to convey my passion for the subject. I often use puzzles in my lessons to develop the student's problem solving skills in a fun way, or connect what the student is learning to a different or more advanced area of mathematics, just demonstrate the importance of the subject being taught.

Abdul Rehman Mohsin
Hello! My name is Abdul Rehman Mohsin. I am an undergraduate student of mechanical engineering. The subjects I teach are Alevel and GCSE Maths and Physics, GCSE chemistry and Alevel Philosophy and theology(or simply philosophy). I have achieved A*s in Alevel Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Physics, so I can help you achieve the same. I can also help you out with Alevel Further Mathematics. Having been a part of the national physics team for my country for the 2020 IPHO, my physics is also quite strong. Although I did not study philosophy in my Alevel, I was always interested in the subject. Having read quite a few books, articles/papers and having watched so many debates, I have a good grasp on the basics and I continue to delve deeper. Therefore, I am confident that I can teach Alevel Philosophy. Now moving beyond academics, I am a big video games and anime enthusiast, so if you are a red dead or a one piece fan, we can have a lot to talk about. Addtionally, my hobbies range from reading lots of philosophy to playing strategy games such as chess or Age of Empires 3.

What subjects are in A Level physics?

The A Level physics course varies slightly across the different exam boards. However, in general, an A Level physics course includes the following subjects:

  • Physical Quantities and Units

  • Kinematics and Dynamics

  • Motion in a Circle

  • Gravitational Fields

  • Work, Energy, and Power

  • Temperature and Thermal Properties

  • Forces, Density and Pressure

  • Quantum physics

  • Deformation of Solids

  • Electric Fields

  • Current of Electricity

  • DC Circuits

  • Alternating Currents

  • Magnetic Fields and Electromagnetic Induction

  • Particle and Nuclear physics

As you can see, there is a lot of content just in this list. What’s more, you’ll find more topics that are usually covered in A Level physics lessons too and should consult the exam body’s website that correlates to your kid’s school/college’s A Level physics course structure.

Is A Level physics really hard?

The A Level physics course is considered hard. It’s not possible to pass without putting in a lot of work. That’s because there are so many A Level physics lessons that cover a huge amount of material that is often complex. All of this has to be learned thoroughly and rote learning isn’t enough.

One challenge that many students face is with the A Level physics course book, which can be tricky to understand. However, if your child can learn the concepts taught rather than just memorising material they will be much better placed for the A Level physics exam. A Level physics tuition is one of the best ways to gain a true understanding and appreciation of the different principles.

Another area that students tend to find challenging is the maths component found in A Level physics lessons. Yet, most students pass their A Level physics exam. So, is A Level physics really hard?

Let’s look at the highest results possible (grade A*) and what percentage of students achieved these grades for their A Level physics course over the last few years.

Grade A*

2019 8.7%

2020 17.4%

2021 21.9%

The reason we look back over the last few years is that 2019 is more representative of the trend prior to the pandemic. In 2020 and 2021, A Level physics students suffered from exam cancellations due to stay at home orders, disrupted classes, and there was the A Level algorithm fiasco.

In the end, all of this led to inflated grades. However, it’s more than possible to do well in A Level physics and students have proven this repeatedly, every year.

Which exam board is the hardest for A Level physics?

It’s largely agreed that the hardest A Level physics exam board is OCR. If you’re wondering what’s the easiest, it’s AQA.

How many A Level physics exams are there?

Each exam board can set their own assessment criteria for A Level physics. Here is an idea of the assessment your child can expect as an example from the AQA A Level physics exam board. AQA has one non-exam assessment and three exams to pass A Level physics.

In 2022, AQA assessment will look like the following:

  • 15 May - Non-exam assessment due (schools and colleges may set their own deadlines)

  • 26 May - A Level physics exam Paper 1 (2 hours)

  • 10 June - A Level physics exam Paper 2 (2 hours)

  • 16 June - A Level physics exam Paper 3 (2 hours)

How popular is the A Level physics course?

Despite being notoriously “hard” (well, not a walk in the park anyway) and having some gruelling exams, A Level physics is a popular subject.

Here is how A Level physics ranked the previous two years in the Top 10 list based on the number of students.

As you can see, Maths is the most popular subject and has been historically speaking too. A Level physics came in at number nine last year, meaning it’s also a very popular subject.

While we’ve talked about how A Level physics can be tough, that's also what students love about it. With so many varied A Level physics lessons involved it’s not possible to get bored in this subject. If your child needs to take A Level physics for their chosen career path or enjoys the subject and wants to take it, they should do it.

We have seen kids struggling with their A Level physics lessons come in for private A Level physics tutoring and with a confidence boost by an experienced tutor and having the concepts explained in a different manner, they’ve jumped two grades from their first A Level year or aced their A Level physics Exam straight away.

Now we’ll give you some top tips on A Level physics revision and let you know how to find the best A Level physics tutor for when the time comes. If you’re at the stage now when you need a private A Level physics tutor for your kid, we offer a free trial class which you can book any time.

Secrets to productive A Level physics revision

As we mentioned earlier, A Level physics revision is more than just memorising content. Your child will need to have a proper understanding of all the A Level physics course elements and be able to put these into practice on their A Level physics exams.

Know all of your A Level physics lessons

Your child needs to be across all the A Level physics lessons from “alternating currents” to “work, energy, and power”, and everything in between. Some lessons build on each other and all play an important role so falling behind can be costly when it comes to A Level physics.

Search for A Level physics online revision

The A Level physics course books are crammed full of detailed information. This can make it overwhelming for students and finding alternative A Level physics online revision material can help break down the topics into more manageable bite-sized chunks.

Utilise private A Level physics tutoring

A Level physics tutoring is there to help students with revision and exam strategies as much as it is about explaining challenging concepts. If you hire a private A Level physics tutor early on, your child will benefit from getting direction on studying and preparing for their A Level physics exam ahead of time.

Where to find the best A Level physics tutor

As your child will be busier than they’ve ever been before, they’ll no doubt find A Level physics online tutoring more convenient than face-to-face classes. An added advantage in the case of A Level physics online tutoring (with GoStudent, at least) is you can record lessons and watch them back as many times as necessary.

Your child can use this as an additional A Level physics online revision method closer to exam time to consolidate everything they’ve learned.

Here are our recommended strategies for finding the best private A Level physics tutor:

  • Suggest that your child asks their peers if they already have a good A Level physics online tutor they could recommend

  • Look for an A Level physics private tuition company with a lot of tutors (easier to match the right one for you) and glowing reviews from students

  • Find an A Level physics tutor who is prepared to give you a free trial class to make sure you’re the right fit for each other

  • Choose an A Level physics tutor that has been given training in tutoring

What to look for in an A Level physics tutor

Your child will want to build a strong rapport with their A Level physics online tutor. This is much easier to do than with a teacher who has to manage hundreds of students but you should still be cautious about choosing the right A Level physics tutor.

Here are our top tips for finding an A Level physics tutor your child will respect and enjoy working with:

  • Qualifications - check the level your A Level physics tutor studied to and the grades they received

  • Tutoring - consider how long have they been tutoring for and make sure they get great reviews from previous and current students

  • Interests - yes, your A Level physics tutor should be professional but if you can match at least one strong common interest between your child and their tutor you will notice the difference tenfold

  • Material - check that your A Level physics tutor will bring A Level physics online course work to challenge and expand your child’s knowledge in their classes together
