Hi! My name is Aurora and I am a postgraduate student at the University of Manchester, studying a Masters in Development Economics. I am originally from Italy, but I moved to the UK when I was 16 and sat both my GCSEs and A Levels in London. In my GCSEs I achieved 8 A* and 4 A grades. These were the second-highest results in my cohort, despite the fact I had only been living in England for two years before sitting my exams. At sixth form, I taught myself French A Level in just one year and achieved an A grade, the highest grade in my class. I have always found learning languages an extremely rewarding, albeit sometimes frustrating process. Although languages open up doors to new ways of thinking and seeing the world around you, grasping the different aspects of a language, such as its grammar, can be demoralising. And that’s what I am here for - as a fellow language learner, I can empathise with the difficulties of this process and will do my best to make it as smooth and fun as possible. Furthermore, as a foreigner who has been through the UK education system, I am able to advise those in similar positions and facing similar challenges. Students learn in different ways, so I will adapt our lessons depending on your preferred learning style. At GCSE, I achieved 9 A* in; Maths, Further Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Business Studies, Digital technology, English, and, Religious Education. I achieved an A in GCSE German. At A level, I achieved an A* in Maths, Chemistry, and, Biology. Exam Board: I completed all my GCSEs and A levels under the Northern Ireland CCEA exam board (NICCEA i.e. Northern Ireland Council for the Curriculum, Examinations & Assessment). Experience with: I have experience of the NICCEA and AQE system; at GCSE and A level, and, 11+ level respectively. I have experience tutoring a student for the 11+ exam, who completed the exam and got into his first choice (grammar) school. For certain age groups, I will be using past paper questions to help build technique in answering common questions and, therefore, a create a strong foundation for more difficult questions. However, it is imperative topics are understood before they are tested so more fundamental teaching will always be put in place before questions. Apart from GCSEs and A levels, I don’t have any other ‘main’ qualifications but I’ve achieved Gold in a UKMT Maths Challenge and also completed the Chemistry Olympiad at A level. I also completed optional Scholarship exams at Trinity College Dublin, and am now a funded Medical Scholar for the rest of my degree. I have also completed the medical entrance exams, achieving 3180 99th percentile in UCAT, and 189 95% percentile in HPAT.
