Levels & subjects I teach: Junior Cert: Math and Science (Ordinary and Higher level) Biology only A-Levels: Biology only. GCSE: Science,Biology and Maths Exam Board experience: Irish Exam Boards. A-Levels GCSE SEND(Special Education Needs and Disability) experience: Children with autism and students that may have trouble focusing on tasks for any length of time without being easily distracted. Preferred student age group: All age groups. My name is Marian, I am a 6th-year medical student with a solid foundation in science. I am competent at tutoring pupils in the Irish educational system up to the Leaving Certificate. As a tutor, I've always felt driven to go above and beyond the curriculum's standards to make sure the student thoroughly understands the material. In order to assist the students, I want to first earn their trust by showing them that I have their best interests at heart. I then want to work really hard with them, urge them to give their all, and ensure that they remain motivated throughout. In my classes, I make sure that the lesson is first clearly explained to the students, beginning with the basics and making sure they understand it. From there, I build on that knowledge but most importantly, a foundation should be built. Finally, I give the student an opportunity to explain back to me and switch roles, pretending to be the teacher and teaching me what was learned. The pupils will be offered enjoyable quizzes or games related to the topics taught to help them relax and stop feeling like learning something new is a chore in order to better reinforce the knowledge they have already acquired. The subjects won't be covered only once. It will be explained in class and then summarized at the end. The first few minutes of the following lesson will be used to review what was previously taught. The third time will follow a few weeks later to help with memory recall. There will also be constant reference to earlier lessons if the topics are connected. I have a thorough understanding of the Irish leaving certificate curriculum, not just because I went through it myself, but also because of my experience tutoring students of all ages, particularly junior and leaving certificate students for the past four years. As a result, I have knowledge of the subjects and crucial exam tips, specifically by going over past exam papers with students. Any kid I have taught has experienced a significant increase in their grades from the beginning of the year to the end. I anticipate at least a two-grade improvement for every student who works with me. whenever I provide tests. To give students a realistic rating, I do my best to grade them in accordance with the standards of the junior/leaving certificate. Throughout the classes, these marking criteria will be applied to identify improvements that are also realistic. Because I am very organized in terms of what is required for the lesson and all the materials that will be utilized, delivering tutoring online has never been an issue for me or my pupils. I make an effort to keep the experience as similar as possible to in-person tuition. I will stay in touch with the parents on a regular basis to address any worries they might have, any observations I might have about the student, and to keep them informed about the classes.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology at West Virginia Wesleyan College (WVWC) - 4 years Master of Science Degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology at Georgia State University (GSU) - 2 years Teaching assistant (TA) for the biology department at GSU for 4 semesters at a biology laboratory course - 3 semesters Neuroscience research at the DKFZ in Heidelberg (Germany) with professor Hannah Monyer Currently doing a PhD in neuroscience at IRB Lleida located in my hometown, Lleida (Spain). Over 500 lessons taught to over 20 students in this platform Keen on helping students learn the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in biology and chemistry for both A-level and GCSE exams My teaching experience includes teaching assistant position at a biology lab at Georgia State University (United States of America) for 4 semesters as well as teaching different techniques to lab groups at the institution I am currently enrolled in doing my PhD. I have also delivered over 500 lessons on this online platform to over 20 students seeking help for their GCSE, OCR, WJEC, and AQA A-level exam boards in both chemistry and biology. While my experiences both as a student and as a teacher have developed my communication skills by using the proper tone and terminology, I value the most having learned from the doubts and questions from my past students as well as having done many final past paper questions. Despite every student being different, experience helps tremendously. Some students are very advanced and prefer working on past paper questions by tackling some specific aspects of the exam board, while some others require a bit more work on some modules and require a session more akin to covering a variety of concepts. When teaching new concepts, I use self-made PowerPoint slides specifically designed to incorporate the knowledge required to succeed in the exam questions for that exam board. In these slides, I use a scaffolding teaching technique which is about covering fundamental learning outcomes prior moving towards the more advanced concepts. I also incorporate past paper questions in every lesson to ensure the student is engaging in proactive learning, and not simply passively listening to me talk for 50 minutes. Overall, my goal is to engage the student in his or her own learning by teaching them skills and by giving them greater focus in some areas of each module. A lot of concepts are covered in these exam boards but knowing where to place great emphasis surely fosters their learning. This is where experience teaching these exams really comes into play, and it will also help me quickly devise the best study plan for the student. To complement my online teaching sessions, I have a digital pad that enables me to quickly write notes, draw or paste diagrams to ensure the lesson is smooth and dynamic. Online teaching may seem, at first glance, limited in terms of being able to write notes, however, currently online learning has been greatly updated thanks to such devices. I am currently only teaching biology and chemistry from GCSE and A-level exams but not higher levels (i.e. not teaching university programs). Like many teachers, my personal preference are students that are keen on learning regardless of their starting point. However, I have taught students that needed motivation coming from me and I was able to help them significantly. I will be happy to answer any questions that may concern you in the trial session if these were not answered in this introduction or by any GoStudent agent.

What are GCSEs?
GCSEs are qualifications that students in the UK achieve at the end of their compulsory education.
A GCSE grade is given to each subject and calculated on written exams, practical exams and coursework.
How important are GCSEs?
GCSEs are a universally recognised qualification in the UK.
Specific GCSE grades may be required when applying for further education. This includes applications for college, sixth form and university, or when applying for a job.
GCSEs can come with a lot of pressure and expectation but your child can achieve the grades that they need with lots of practice as well as guidance from a GCSE tutor.
At what age do you take GCSEs?
Students take their GCSE exams around age 16, in the last months of the academic year at school, although the syllabus is taught between the ages of 14-16 years.
There is now more weight than ever being placed on final exams (instead of coursework), so students must be well equipped to perform on the day.
Which GCSEs are compulsory?
The core subjects for GCSEs are maths, English and science.
Other GCSEs include languages (usually French, German or Spanish), humanities (such as history, geography or religious studies), art (music, art, media, drama) and technical (food technology, design and technology, computer science).
Can GCSEs be re-marked?
If your child is on the cusp of getting the grade that they hoped for or the result simply does not seem fair, the paper in question can be sent back to the exam board for appeal.
Many students appeal exam results when they are one or two marks away from the next grade up. The right study plan and a good understanding of the marking scheme for each exam can help avoid this situation.
If your child has achieved marks close to the grade line in their mock exams, it could be time to get them some help with a GCSE tutor.
