Before joining the Sussex I obtained my masters degree in chemistry from the University of York graduating with first-class honours. I particularly enjoy spending time in the lab, with my work being focused on developing new chemical reactions. Outside of the lab, you can usually find me strategising over the chess board, exploring worlds in the latest video games or stopping my cats from causing chaos! Whilst still attending school I would meet weekly with 6 students on an individual basis to help prepare them for either their upcoming A-level or GCSE exams. I have a first-class bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and Classics from The Open University, as well as Philosophy MA at Birkbeck University, in which I achieved a distinction. My teaching style is enthusiastic, explorative, and attentive. I tailor my lessons to suit the needs and interests of each student, and I provide them with detailed feedback and guidance. I have worked as an examiner for GCSE English Literature, so can use this experience to help student achieve peak exam performance. I believe that learning can be not only intellectually rewarding, but also enjoyable. I use a variety of resources and methods to make my lessons engaging and interactive, such as games, quizzes, videos, podcasts, key texts, and images. I also encourage my students to express their own opinions and perspectives, and to engage in lively discussions with me and with each other. I have been working as a tutor as part of the National Tutoring Scheme for the past year. In that time, I have been consistently praised for my creative, engaging and understanding approach to tuition. I have also completed a Teach First course in a Further Education environment, in which I shadowed experienced teachers, learnt about effective teaching practice, and presented my own lesson to senior educators to rave reviews. I now work at one of the highest performing sixth-forms in the country, advising students on their study skills.
